  • With no fanfare or party, here it is, nine years after my first video post, it's the big 1,000th post.
Presenting downtown Philadelphia, better known as Center City, and all the transit action as it was back in 1999. Shot over the course of a single day, this covers SEPTA, NJ Transit, and other transit operations that pass by my camera lens.

@@CrimpyWall you must be talking about the market street el which was entirely red. I grew up 2 blocks from the Frankford el in Frankford and it was red near me but mostly green and blue in other stretches. I watched the Frankford el get rebuilt. It was heartbreaking to say the least

@@CrimpyWall the market street el was a classic design especially the old stations. Now it's all generic looking.

Whoa! Elwyn had an express set in that time? Do you remember what symbol is what or what time it ran out of Philly?

I don't recall the train numbers, but it was probably about the same time as now. There were several alternating AM and PM expresses, with the cycle being express to Secane, local to Elwyn, followed by local to Morton, express to Media, then a Secane local, then the second express to Secane, local to Elwyn, and then another local to Morton, express to Media.
It reversed in the mornings: Local from Elwyn to Secane, express to Center City, then express from Media to Morton, local to Center City, then a local from Secane, then repeat. The express zone got shrunken from Secane to Morton at some point; I can't remember the year.

I've already put various clips from both Downtown 2.22 and 333.3 on here in various titles, so they kind of sneaked in already.
