How was it made? Carving a Printing Block

An integral step in the block-printing process takes place before any textiles are involved. The carving of a printing block is in itself a highly skilled practice, requiring a team of craftspeople specialising in different stages of the process. The V&A filmed this process step by step, as craftsmen at Yaseen Wooden Block Makers in Jaipur, Rajasthan, turned a plank of wood into an intricately carved printing block.

Very interesting video ! Thanks a lot ! But I don't understand the purpose of the khadria (quicklime and pvc glue) is that to whitewash the surface before drawing on it ( if si why not using paint) or is there an other reason that I don't understand ?

I think so. I've seen block carvers use PVC to seal the wood and stop it splintering, and the lime is probably just to act as as ground for the pencil work.

You're right. But will it be better? The randomness of the symmetry is actually what makes this such a beautiful thing. We all want things right now. Sure, a cnc or laser cutter can do this with out thinking. Or feeling. it will be perfect, and cheap. Too perfect......where's the joy in that? It's the minor imperfections that shows the makers hand.....and heart.

completely agree with @roy schack. Also the part of a tradition is lost as soon as something goes from the hands of a craftsman to the machinery. Not only will this snatch away the livelihood of these artisans but will also be a disrespect to the immense skill that they posses. The goods created on the other hand with the machinery will be much MUCH more cheaper which will result in not only the whole craft loosing its entire essence of "handmade" but the economy loosing a major sector which is the craft sector. Its so much more connected to so many things than you can imagine.

As cool as CNC machines are, I can't help thinking that you could etch a print block like this in photopolymer with a laser printed template straight out of photoshop and not have to put up with hours of whining router, clouds of toxic dust and having to constantly change bits. That's if you wanted to take absolutely all the fun out of it.
