I didn't even realize there were any HoJos left. Sad that a once iconic brand that had attached restaurants and stuff has become a roach motel for prostitutes, drug addicts, thieves and a notorious TH-camr.
It is a cheap motel room, but not as dumpy as it could have been. It least it was fairly clean, with a flat screen television and a newer hot shower. As for the microwave, it obviously still works but no one is going to steal it. Newer AC is a plus. The room should have been fifty dollars a night. Seeing no roaches is a good thing. I would not have complained. For the price, it is what I would expect.
Some years back I rented a similar room and I definitely felt a little scammed but from what I hear is the main thing you want to do in those kind of rooms is just look at the mattress and look for bed bugs but you didn't see anything and you made it out safely so it was a success🎉
Except for the newer vinyl plank flooring, current day AC unit and 2010's tile in the bathroom, the room looks like a location scene from "Miami Vice," circa 1985! Actually kind of cool, and I've seen much worse. That microwave is a real antique though. We had one like that in the break room of my first full-time job back in the early 80s! That green vinyl chair has a real 1969 vibe. One thing for sure, not seeing roaches in a tropical climate is a big plus!
Lamont-that room and most of the furniture (including the mirrors) is early 1960's. Actually, for a 60 year old hotel room, not bad (I've seen much worse). Tatung microwaves were common in the early 1980's, so, saying "Cold War" is accurate. With that said, the Hojo restaurants (adjacent to the hotel), 50 years ago, had THE BEST ice cream desserts (sundaes were served in a silver colored canoe looking bowl).
the microwave is old, yellowed and disgusting and they are cheap enough that the owners should replace it. I had them in the 1980's and NEVER ever heard of that brand either. He's not doing an ice cream review is he??
@@SHELLMADDE SHELLMADDE, if you had ever partaken of a Hojo sundae, you would also fondly remember them. They were the best. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has ever made sundaes that good.
Lamont , always bring a sheet , blanket , pillow .Anytime you go to a hotel or motel ? You will be safe from contact to the bed .Take your sheet and lay it atop of the bed . Then, use your own pillow and blanket ?
I always carry a hi-powered LED flashlight (Nitecore or Acebeam are my preferences) and a black light with me as EDC's, esp on road trips when I stay at hotels. Theyre both good investments
I really love the retro look. It’s got that funky, 70s vibe. I like the microwave, too! The center lamp on the night table is actually very nice. The beds look comfortable and inviting. The sea foam green/blue painted walls contrast nicely with the beige and tans. It’s a very cool, mid-century modern room. However, there is no excuse for any filth. I’m glad that your stay was reasonably tolerable/good.
Yes that is what I like about it. I never got to visit Florida as a child and this is a little bit of old Florida. Not everything has to be new and modern. I will stay there every time I go to Florida
Hey that is my favorite hotel when I go to Florida. No they are not pimps and pros. I stayed there for I think 6 weeks Dec into Feb of this year. Everyone was so nice. I always felt safe. I am an old white single lady with my dog. All the guest were nice, I actually stayed in the room a few doors down. I only saw nice people there. Did you meet GG the front desk woman. All the cleaning people are nice. I liked the older stuff I thought it was just old Florida. I wish you would change your review. I am from Ohio and I am usually a snob about terrible things. I found this to be just an old nice hotel in Florida. As I said I was there on Christmas and NewYears a lot of fireworks but I guess that is how Florida people celebrate. I walked my dog at all hours across the street at Pep boys and the Lee Medical Plaza. I never felt uneasy with any of the construction workers. They all got up early and went to work.
Lamont, Please start doing black light for all of us. Don't go near that microwave. What a dump. Thank you for showing this. I love your documentary on this place and people.
I’ve stayed in much much worse. They’ve at least made an effort to clean it up though those curtains are gross. Considering what you have to pay now for a mid range hotel, $80 isn’t much. It’s not a resort stay- just for a bed and a hot shower then you’re gone.
I’m currently living in a hotel because my apartment needed a new ceiling, landlord has to pay. They tried putting us in an extended stay. I said HELL NO. Not being around creeps with my nephew
I’m Billy laughing right now, Lamont you awesome! Yes motel looks pretty rough, but in my opinion it better than some I have seen you been to in the past, I say 50 Dollars would be good, stay safe 🥰
Haven't been to Florida since 2002 when I was 15 for a family vacation, I heard it's completely different nowadays and I don't ever plan on checking it out. Hell $82 a night for that? Yeah that sucks! 😅
You’re about 90 miles from us. We’re in Bradenton…… you visited Palmetto not long ago. We’re right across the pond from there. LOL. Great video as always!!!!! Welcome to Florida where roaches are the size of large raccoons……. Just kidding. German roaches are filth…… the “Palmetto” bugs that fly and the American are just common in tropical areas as well as many other varieties. I check for roaches too when we travel. I can’t stand the little rat bastards. I’m ok with spiders because they will eat roaches. As well as lizards for the same reason.
Red Roof inn Naples is crap now. The city is trying to shut it down but the federal government is fighting it because that is where they are housing people affected by the hurricane.
Oh LAWD!!! That room has me feeling all itchy and weird and I am at home! Thanks for the cautionary info!!! "Things that make you go uuuuuuuuggggggghhhhhh!!!"
I rented a room in new orleans when six flags was still open. Had conjoining rooms with my kids. They were jumping on the bed and the matress flipped over and the bottom half was covered in blood with hand prints everywhere. We just packed in one room and left in the morning. Disgusting
I absolutely LOVE your hotel/motel reviews. You could make a whole new channel of just this and I would binge watch all of it. I die laughing every single time!
I'd be scared to go into a hotel if I had a black light..... But this hotel looks a lot better than what you've been in.... That microwave is as old as the hotel is properly..... Did the coffee pot have a pot... But I kind of think it's worth eighty bucks..... I hope you get a good night's rest.....😊
I lived in Ft Myers for 15 years, and yes that is a very dodgy hotel and area. You are braver than I am. Ian was a devastating hurricane. After 8 hurricanes I finally left Florida!
So how much did it cost? That’s what you gotta go by. Mostly it just looks old but not really that bad. I think that’s pretty much what you get for $80.
Howard Johnson was a top of the line place to stay in its day but that was long ago. A lot of them closed and the one in Danville closed thirty plus years ago. I'm sure that the few still running are run down and definitely really old.
What is that stuff in the back of that microwave that protrudes from the corners? Looks like a black light test is needed here. Those Tatung microwaves were cheap Kmart crap back in the 1980's.
I stayed at a Ho-Jo's a long time ago, it was the night before my MEPS physical and processing. It wasn't that bad, but then it was back in '84. The TV was the tube type and had a radio option. The continental breakfast was actually pretty good.
If your ever in bowling green ky, Super 8 on Cumberland Trace is nice and clean, we stayed for a week and room service every morning was like clock work, very clean and very nice people running this place,, but ofcourse everyone has their own opinion, anyway and also no bugs at all. And th rates are better than what you paid where your at
Lamont, why do you stay at all these cheaper hotel chains? You know they're going to be a dump! You get what you pay for. Shoot for a mid-range $90- 100 a night and read PAST REVIEWS.
Lives down there in the eighties as a teenager, was a great place to be, until a Alabama grown teenager has to go through a class 3 hurricane for the first time!! Lol.
I didn't even realize there were any HoJos left. Sad that a once iconic brand that had attached restaurants and stuff has become a roach motel for prostitutes, drug addicts, thieves and a notorious TH-camr.
That microwave looks like a TV from the poltergeist 😂
Howard Johnson used to be poppin in the old generation
Heck yeah it was the bomb then🎉🎉😂
It is a cheap motel room, but not as dumpy as it could have been. It least it was fairly clean, with a flat screen television and a newer hot shower. I been binge watching all day love it😝
If you buy a black light, you'll never rent a room again 😅
Dan Bell will sue him if he does that. 😂 Dan Bell lives in a dirty room.
😇👀🤍🎚️🎶🕯️🩵✨🖐️ that's the truths a black light 🕯️ tell's the story
Don't do it. You are are better off not knowing.
It’s why I just sleep in my truck. In the parking lot.
Never go Cheap when you get a HOE-TELL room 😅😅😅😅
"What in the name of Chinese hell is this?"
Lmao! Dude, you crack me up
Some years back I rented a similar room and I definitely felt a little scammed but from what I hear is the main thing you want to do in those kind of rooms is just look at the mattress and look for bed bugs but you didn't see anything and you made it out safely so it was a success🎉
You have the best type of humour Lamont.Thank you for all of your very great videos!!

I don't think it looks bad. The price isn't bad either
So glad you didn’t think bad do it. I love that place and when I stayed there only nice people were there . I didn’t see any drug activity.
Bro, it's 80 dollars a night. Set your standards accordingly lol.
Your motel reviews are iconic Lamont 😂💜
Lamont , always bring a sheet , blanket , pillow .Anytime you go to a hotel or motel ? You will be safe from contact to the bed .Take your sheet and lay it atop of the bed . Then, use your own pillow and blanket ?
Sitty and shady place. Stay safe Lamont! We need you to continue to entertain us! ❤❤ We love you! 😊😊
I would have DEFINITELY checked for bed bugs too! Motels are always so shady!!
I always carry a hi-powered LED flashlight (Nitecore or Acebeam are my preferences) and a black light with me as EDC's, esp on road trips when I stay at hotels. Theyre both good investments

I like the old retro look. It looks pretty nice from the beginning of the video. Decent and clean.
Yes that is what I like about it. I never got to visit Florida as a child and this is a little bit of old Florida. Not everything has to be new and modern. I will stay there every time I go to Florida
Hotel in Transylvania 😂🤣🤣🤣 my neighbors are pimps and prostitutes🤣🤣🤣your so funny Lamont! ❤
So many people passed away from that crazy storm! Very sad!! 😭
Your sleeping in a van !!! At least you can use a toilet instead of a jug in the middle of the night !! 😂

I didn’t see any comments about how much light was coming in from under the door 👀
i love Retro Nostolgia Stuff
Wow, Howard Johnson has had quite a fall. I don't know if that microwave was safe at all!
Lamont, Please start doing black light for all of us. Don't go near that microwave. What a dump. Thank you for showing this. I love your documentary on this place and people.

Love the hotel reviews!
lets start a drinking game...every time he says Fort Myers we take a shot!! hahaha
Or geez Louise! haha
Stay safe out there, and rock on, Lamont!💜✌
I'd get a black light Lamont...seriously. I wouldn't put anything in that microwave...I wouldn't even stop there. Thanks for sharing 🙂👍💖💖💖
I’m currently living in a hotel because my apartment needed a new ceiling, landlord has to pay. They tried putting us in an extended stay. I said HELL NO. Not being around creeps with my nephew

At least your not out in your van/car for one night
Looks like a solid 2.5 star hotel. For 90 bucks - you can't ask for much better.
I think its pretty cool
Love the lamps
Im liking the DJI gimbal that thing is great Lamont, I love mine, very easy to control too.
At least they made an attempt. Looks better than some of the other rat holes you've stayed in.
Lamont, you are such a funny guy. ❤❤
Red Roof inn Naples is crap now. The city is trying to shut it down but the federal government is fighting it because that is where they are housing people affected by the hurricane.
😂 Near my hometown! I moved in 1994. The best move I made!😂
Oh LAWD!!! That room has me feeling all itchy and weird and I am at home! Thanks for the cautionary info!!! "Things that make you go uuuuuuuuggggggghhhhhh!!!"

You should have stayed at the LaQuinta inn by sanibel. Great place for the price.
I absolutely LOVE your hotel/motel reviews. You could make a whole new channel of just this and I would binge watch all of it. I die laughing every single time!

I used to live in Florida, so I know how bad motels and other rentals can be
The microwave definitely should be replaced. I agree with you pay a few dollars more for somewhere else. Great video.
Your priceless walking along there talking about drug dealers and prostitutes lol
I lived in Ft Myers for 15 years, and yes that is a very dodgy hotel and area. You are braver than I am. Ian was a devastating hurricane. After 8 hurricanes I finally left Florida!
Always check the bedding seams and pullow seams for bedbugs.
YES!!!!! Do the Dirty motels series!!!!!
Lamont, I use to enjoy Dan Bell's reviewing dirty run-down motels. Get a black light and try it.
You should also check for bed bugs in all hotels and motels
Good grief man, that microwave must have came over on the Mayflower.
Howard Johnson used to be big. Didn’t know there was any still around
Know the area well and spit my coffee out, laughing at your title. I moved.
3.15 The 80s want that microwave back.....
Shoutout from Naples, FL #239
The microwave looks like its from the 80s Lamont!!!!!!
Lamont please we all want you
to consider an additional career
as a stand up comedian! Ok😂🤣😅😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Lol!
So how much did it cost? That’s what you gotta go by. Mostly it just looks old but not really that bad. I think that’s pretty much what you get for $80.
Back when I was a kid , this is what we would call a bring your own ass kind of motel , the kind where you paid by the hour.
YES!!! BLACK LIGHT VIDEOS FROM LAMONT!!!😮😊 (always bring bleach clorox wipes, rubber gloves and wear shower sandals never go bare feet or sock feet!😢)
I think I actually remember that appliance brand, Tatung, from back in the day.
The beds are so SMALL!!! Lamonts feet are gonna hang over! 😊
It looks like a nice place with a nice room. Hotel stays could be from $69.00 to $80.00😊
Our first microwave, when I was a kid, had a dial like that, and you don’t look bad at all.
When are you coming to Memphis
I kinda get now why you were in your Van live on Christmas ⛄ what the holy @ . You were brave for all of us. The safe is a really good touch lolol 😄
Lamont are you sure you want a black light?Would you sleep on a bed after shining a black light on it?I don't think I could.
Howard Johnson was a top of the line place to stay in its day but that was long ago. A lot of them closed and the one in Danville closed thirty plus years ago. I'm sure that the few still running are run down and definitely really old.
Wow only 82 bucks my Family lives down there that is cheap
There’s a good chance the first floor was under some flooding from Hurricane Ian as most of Ft Myers was while the beach was wiped out!
What is that stuff in the back of that microwave that protrudes from the corners? Looks like a black light test is needed here. Those Tatung microwaves were cheap Kmart crap back in the 1980's.
The Jetson's just called. They said to tell that motel that want their lamps back.
I don’t think it looks that bad.
My uncle used to be high up in the Howard Johnson chain back in the late 70s
I stayed at a Ho-Jo's a long time ago, it was the night before my MEPS physical and processing. It wasn't that bad, but then it was back in '84. The TV was the tube type and had a radio option. The continental breakfast was actually pretty good.
Your recouting memories of a breakfast from 1984?
@@justinlanger7109 it was the morning of a major life event for me - I recall damn near everything from that day.
@@NightOwlTheater 😂 fair enough
I think you should invest in a black light just for your safety?the light from the sink area is blinding when you walked in as well scary!
When we stayed there in August/September 2021 it wasn’t that bad!
No meal preparation in the "Gourmet Series" microwave, I suppose. ☹️
Looks like it’s been “updated”.
If your ever in bowling green ky, Super 8 on Cumberland Trace is nice and clean, we stayed for a week and room service every morning was like clock work, very clean and very nice people running this place,, but ofcourse everyone has their own opinion, anyway and also no bugs at all. Watch for 2 way mirrors. Hotels like that, mirror over sink
I was in Panama City in October none of the lights worked they hired someone to fix them
Big gaps door under and around ya can probs see the sun in that room 😮
I spent a lot of time in HoJos back in the day. And they were great. Anyone remember the restaurants? And 80 USD to stay there? Ugh!
If your still down here, you need to do a story on the Cracker Barrel murders.
That microwave looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months..
Lamont, why do you stay at all these cheaper hotel chains? You know they're going to be a dump! You get what you pay for. Shoot for a mid-range $90- 100 a night and read PAST REVIEWS.
Might you have been referring to Dan Bell when you said Oh My God about the microwave? 😂😂
Just because the fridge looks clean, we don’t know where the rag used had been before. It’s a horrible dump!
Lives down there in the eighties as a teenager, was a great place to be, until a Alabama grown teenager has to go through a class 3 hurricane for the first time!! Lol.
What was with the pitbull running around outside without a leash?
