  • Every summer, the Island of Sodor is very busy with holidaymakers visiting the Island to see the sights. With no sign of inclement weather, visitors often enjoy going to the mountains or the valleys, while children enjoy the seaside. One day, Thomas is busy on the coastal run taking some children to the beach. When he reaches Tidmouth Hault, Percy is there taking some freight cars to the harbor and Percy tells Thomas he wishes that he could take children rather than cars. Thomas states that the children he brought are the Vicar's Sunday School, and he will be busy in the evening, but then offers Percy to take the children home, in which Percy promises to do so.
At Dryaw station, Harold warns Percy there is a rather nasty storm approaching and that he should take care out on the line. At Elsbridge station, Edward also warns Percy to be careful of the upcoming storm, but Percy is more concerned about keeping his promise to Thomas. The children have a lovely day at the beach but by teatime, the weather turns bad and begins raining hard. Percy arrives at Tidmouth Hault to pick up Annie and Clarabel, who are glad to see the little green tank engine and with that, Percy sets off to bring the children home.
As Percy begins his journey, he battles onwards through coastal villages and into the countryside. The heavy rain makes the river rise very quickly and the visibility is poor for Percy while he faces the elements. But then, there is trouble ahead; the tracks have flooded and as Percy charges into the floodwaters, his fire is dampened as the water floods into his cab. His crew then try to find some more firewood and they go to ask the conductor for some of his floorboards from the brake van. The conductor grumbles that he had only swept the floor that morning, but still agrees to help. Percy's fire is soon burning well and he feels more warm and comfortable again. Then Percy sees Harold, who he thinks has come to laugh at him. A crate attached to a parachute is dropped out and thuds on top of Percy's boiler. His driver laughs and tells Percy that Harold has thoughtfully given the crew hot drinks. Percy thanks Harold before the helicopter flies away.
Percy bravely continues on his journey as the water laps his wheels and as he begins losing steam again, he keeps on going. Percy makes several efforts and triumphantly brings the children home. Thomas congratulates his friend for keeping his promise despite everything. Sir Topham Hatt arrives aboard Harold and thanks Percy and his crew. Sir Topham Hatt is greatly impressed with Percy's efforts and praises him for being a Really Useful Engine.
