Hello Scotland ! Only just stumbled upon your stupendous channel and I subscribed too. I must admit that you are a better angler than Robson! Greetings from Casablanca Morocco. farewell for now!
@@scottishmountainman1290 YES Robson. ROBSON GREEN! Let's hope he is not reading this. far gesund for now. Glad to see you putting the fish back to fight another angler !!
Glad you loved it, thanks! Nice, beautiful part of the country. To my knowledge there aren’t any systems with pike above Ullapool. However, if you are fly fishing above Ullapool in November, I’d suggest having a session on the coast. Great sport! 🎣🤙
I grew up on the east by Aberdeen, that’s why I spend my time fishing on the west. 😅 it’s not loch Maree but Loch Maree is a beautiful body of water that’s well worth fishing. 🎣👍
@@scottishmountainman1290 Ah sweet. Yeah I try to find new lochs as much as possible (that haven’t been smashed by Europeans) & understand you gotta keep them secret to protect the species, environment & habitat. So if you’re heading to Aberdeen at any point, drop me a msg & we can head out somewhere if you’re up for it. You can add me on Facebook so we can chat with more peace of mind.
Yeah absolutely mate, I was using a #7/8 rod in this video. It is a salt water rod so it’s a little stiffer at the tip section to be able to turn over the heavier flies but if you put a heavy tapered fly line on a #7 rod you should be fine! 😁👌 tight lines. 🎣
@@scottishmountainman1290 Cheers mate I have a #7/8 from fishing for rainbows. I normally fish for pike from my kayak using spinning gear but I've got it in my head, that I want to try and take my 1st pike on a fly. I literally live 20 minutes away from the lake district, 20 minutes away from the Scottish lochs in and around Dumfries, so plenty of playground to give it a go. I watch a Scandinavian TH-camr who uses a 7 weight for big salmon hence I had an inkling that a 7 weight would be possible lol.
I have been asked by the fisheries manager not to share the location online. It is worth mentioning that this log is no longer available to fish for the public due to the owners undertaking a big conservation project with has stopped angling activities for the next few years.
@@scottishmountainman1290 no problem, If you know any locations that you could advise it would be much appricated i am going up again soon and dont want to risk every loch i come acorss as the info online isnt great for pike fishing in the highlands
Great video, loads of fun had! Reminds me of Fly fishing some wee lochs above Loch Ness back in the day... You're a bit like a Scottish version of 'FlyFishDan' with your enthusiasm (that's a compliment 👍). Check him out if you haven't already, from Montana. Tight lines ☺️
@@scottishmountainman1290 Depends! From the boat I use a foldable laundry basket from IKEA haha. From the bank I've only used the basket, but I see the board with spikes being nice because you can never hit your hand strip striking. On the other hand; your line can fall of the board and still get damaged on the ground. Both have pro's and con's:).
This was class, energy being the main part
Like how you actually talk about your rig, a lot of TH-cam’s don’t bother, makes the video even more interesting, good job!
Good to know! I do often wonder if I’m boring people. Haha
Your the best love your vids. Those fish are lovely I have only caught tow pike on the mery hill canal
Thank you very much 🎣🤙 great fish.
What a great video mate well done
Thank you 🎣🤙
Pike on the fly, awesome. Would really like to try this some day.
It really gets the blood flowing! Well worth a try. 🎣🤙
Great video mate me personally not been to good with the pike lately 👍
Could be the time of year bud 🎣👍
Nice video man
Thanks bud 😎🎣

Where were you fishing?
Loved it. I fly fish for pike a lot but every November I have a week or two in the nw above Ullapool. Do you know if there are any that far up?

@@scottishmountainman1290 yeah that’s actually what I’ve been doing. Only small ones so far but slowly figuring it out.
"hes just there, hes just there" (pointing at the water and the fish jumps out and bites his finger in revenge)
Now that would make for an entertaining video! Haha
Nice video bro. I’m in Aberdeen (just back from a week on the west coast) is that Loch maree?

Brilliant video, Pike are great fun on the fly aren't they 👌 that fly you are using looks amazing. Bought or tied by yourself?
It’s the most fun you can have in Scotland with your clothes on! 😂 I was given that fly by a friend, I will be making more!!! Deadly!!!
Reckon I could get away with a 7 weight rod for pike?

Thanks dude 🤙 I tend to be a bit more reserved in person but when I’m fishing I often turn into a big kid. 😂🎣 tight lines.
Great video!! Invest in a stripping basket mate, will make your life so much easier:)
Thank you. YES!!! It’s my next purchase, very over due! I like the look of the foam boards with spikes rather than a basket. What do you use?
