    I have repaired a few of these now so I thought I would share my knowledge to help you repair your own set. These are lovely radios and are fairly expensive to purchase. Due to the aging of the smd electrolytics they leak and can damage the board if not caught early enough. This is part one so make sure you check in on the future instalments. All the best Graham

    Hey Graham,
    Enjoyed your video. I always wanted a Sony rig like that one , well still do .I wished I could repair radios like yourself. I have a Heathkit Mohegan that needs some work but repair men are few and far between here . Well Graham have a good weekend and hope to see you Sunday. 73 my friend.

      Thanks Duane. What’s wrong with the Heathkit?

      Well Graham, I was only able to pic up close stations but it's not the antenna. I ran a long wire and no Changeand i could only pick up two stations the rest of the close channels

      Sorry Graham I got cut off . I was saying I could only pick up two stations and none of the other channels.

      Sounds like you may have a transistor gone in the IF section. They look like the type that get tin whiskers

    A nice product sir truly. Happy to see the restoration videos. I am having bush MRK5000A radio cassette tape recorder which is similar to national panasonic RQ543,542 ADS. Due to bias oscillator failure it cannot record and erase anything. But it can play the cassettes well. Erase head impedance is 1.5 ohms AC erase. I have tried in everyway to make that bias oscillator work but it is not oscillating. I don't have CRO to test the frequency. Do you have any AC erase schematics please give me sir.

    • @Radiocruncher
      @Radiocruncher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much. I expect the erase head and oscillator would be very similar to other models of the same era so schematics should show how it’s done

    Sir can you provide me the List of Electrolytes capacitors an there each full value an Quantity please 🙏 for my SONY ICF PRO 80....???

      I don't have a list of them. I buy in stock and use what fits. You can work it out but you will need to measure the pads on the pcb and refer to the manual

    Good afternoon. This receiver is a big headache. Check the potentiometers - they break. I had one

    • @Radiocruncher
      @Radiocruncher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it’s a tricky one to fix. I’ve repaired a lot of potentiometers but not yet had one fail in a PRO80. Usually it’s the AIR-7. Thanks for watching

      Sounds like it needs a bit of work. Certainly the electrolytics will need changing and you many have damaged the audio with reverse polarity

      Hi Ivan. Yes it’s not really a radio to cut your teeth on. They are tricky but get easier the more you do

    The best way to test a pot is put line level audio through it to an amplifier.
    The second you rotate the pot, crackle crackle.
    Yes very obvious to anyone with ears lol :-D

    • @Radiocruncher
      @Radiocruncher  ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense Harvey so thanks for the tip. The PRO80 doesn’t seem to suffer with the broken pots like the AIR-7 does. I’ve pulled one apart and the wiper is more secure so they must have improved them

    • @luisboucinhas1830
      @luisboucinhas1830 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes ! I have onde since new and found It in a shelf but was without sound. I discovered huge capacitor leaks that comprimidos the PCB trails.

    • @Radiocruncher
      @Radiocruncher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sadly that’s what happens. It can be fixed though

      @@Radiocruncher I already replaced all electrolytic capacitors, the main IC, some transistors and now trying to rebuild the 30 connections from the compromised flat cable also. Huge and delicate task! Very interested in watch your video!

    • @Radiocruncher
      @Radiocruncher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good luck Luis. One thing to check is that you have continuity through any connectors you have desoldered. They can be open circuit just on one side of the board

      Hi there. Good luck with yours. I would recommend that you use tantalum smd caps to repair it. I have done a couple previous videos on my own PRO80 th-cam.com/users/liveB-eQpDXmKh8?feature=share and the initial look here th-cam.com/users/livewikRhQFGbzQ?feature=share. Let me know how you get on
