My brother and I had a an Atari 2600 but I only remember playing football on it. I played all the games shown here but in the arcade in the early 80's. In those days my brother worked at a locally owned arcade and after they closed we'd stay all night long and play all our favorite console games. Those were the days... we really thought we were somethin' being able to open all the games and play for FREE. Life would later get more complicated but back then it was simple and life seemed like it would last forever.
it's 2 am in 1982. hot summer night. I am sitting in my room with the glow of the TV playing video games with the window open. I can hear crickets and the atari.
As someone born in the 2000s, I find it fascinating to see games with simple controls. The concept of creating a game that can be easily played and enjoyed is something that really captures my interest making game as a hobby.
Hard to describe but the appeal of the Atari was "pick up and play" as long as you didn't make the average game to complicated anyone could come by pick up a controller and use basic common sense to play, it is one of the many reasons the 5200 and 7200 failed to connect the way the 2600 did.

My cousin and I used to play Combat all the time on Atari! We loved the tanks that were invisible until you started shooting and we loved the shells that would bounce around the screen.
I had one in the 80s, I spent many hours playing pole position-Asteroids-space invaders-breakout and many other games. All my mates had one so had loads of games to share around.
I am a 'kid' of the Atari era. Donkey Kong was released in 1982. Missile Command was released in 1981. I believe Mario Bros. was released in 1984 - but not entirely certain.

I got an Atari 2600 right when it came out. Was both amazing and pissed me off at the same time. We would go to the arcade and have amazing graphics., and then this was what Pac Man was like at home. lol. But Pitfall was awesome. I think my favorite cartage was MegaMania by Activision.
What made vid games like these was that they were new. All anyone did was play pinball and board games in those days. I think Pong was the first. It was a viral fad back then.

Me and my brother spent an entire summer playing Asteroids on a black and white TV in the basement. Luvved every minute of it.

Back then when I had Atari in 1981-1983, it felt like a grown up man who drives a RR Phantom these days.
Old is gold.
old isn't gold necessarily.

That's the assembly language for you, must have been so difficult to program these games

Totalmente de acuerdo con usted. Uff, que bonitos recuerdos con el Atari... Saludos!
I still play atari to this day and yes I love every minute back then and now
The music is totally distracting, you shouldn't have covered over the game sounds
They have such good controls, nice graphics, layouts and catchy tracks and sound effects
@Fat Chocobo yeah like what nes was better and can I have some to
Atlantis looked nice.. Activision were incredible, what they achieved on the VCS! River Raid and Pitfall, remarkable games.
Illuminated Skeletons Atlantis is very good.... has a great 2 player co-op mode
Cheers, I'll take a look via emulator :-)

My favs were Pit Fall, Enduro and Defender
In Pitfall for the Atari 2600, I always run to the left. It is way easier that way.

Demon Attack was awesome!
have you ever played an atari before?
Not to be rude but where the hell is Adventure, Yars revenge, and frogger? Just asking
Now I know, Mario bros was originated in Atari before he went to Family Computer.

PAC-MAN was awful on 2600.. what about moon patrol, yars revenge, defender....
E.R.A Studios I was obsessed with Yars Revenge.
E.R.A Studios Defender sucked on Atari . Stargate was actually good
Moon patrol,space invader,pitfall
Great list but consider removing the music. Let the original sounds do the talking :-) thanks for the upload.
Oloco mano, faltou River Raid , Choper Comando, Comsndo Raid , Enduro, Sea Quest.
I’ve played all but three of the games on this list. Pac-Man was my favorite.
In 1980, the space invaders came and looked exactly like that. Praise Sir Clive Sinclair xxx SO`FIA
Phoenix was actually more fun than Demon Attack
why does everyone on youtube think they have to wallpaper their video with tacky music

It's really easy. There is nothing a modern joystick would give that would make it easier.
