She's amazing. Here's a SUMMARY: 1.) She cuts her own hair / Gave up getting her hair cut 2.) Gave up cell phone contract 3.) Gave up meat 4.) Gave up soy products, pre-packaged food, and buying wine 5.) Gave up her brand (that centered around luxury and abundance, that revolved around a certain perception that she had to maintain... it was very difficult for her) 6.) Gave up what other people think about her journey - family, friends, those in her own culture, those in other cultures, strangers, and all etc. Including her own thoughts and assumptions about what other people think I'm so grateful. Still listen to the entire thing and subscribe, she's next level. Love it. Thank you!
I recently made drastic changes too. I recently bought my house bc the rent was gonna be $1300. My house pymnt is $1467. I paid off my car so I can afford the mortgage. I lowered my car insurance, term insurance, health insurance. Cut my T-Mobile now metro. I CUT my cable and internet 😭. I CUT my meat consumption too for the longest time. Now removing Starbucks and eating out. My kids just deal with it bc having a house means more to them than things. Took me a year and half to get furniture to be happy with my purchase and paid off. We all have decisions to make and NO one else carry those. It's great when theres a support but not everyone has it.
Honestly, you're the reason I've made a monthly budget plan again. And also the inspiration behind the big pot of beans I'm cooking right now. It might not help you to get out of debt but maybe knowing that you are influencing people's lives around the globe (I'm from Germany) is a reason for you to smile and feel good about yourself. Don't think about people judging you, think about the positive impact you have on them (and on yourself because these videos seem to help you too). I will never judge you or anyone else for not having your child live with you. Or for your debt. I do not know your life and what happened. All I know is that you make awesome videos now. Thank you for that!
CloudyChocolate Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I’m so honored to inspire you to do a budget and make a pot of beans!! 🤗☺️💜 this journey helps me more than I can even explain. I’m just so so grateful.
Just paid off $118,000 this week in student loans debt. Took me 5 1/2years. I follow the Dave Ramsey 7 baby steps as well and even coordinated 2 classes. Great job sis thank you for allowing us to be apart of your journey! You can do it trust me!!
I'm in tears when i see Stacey's refrigerator- tears of joy and awe! To know that this is possible and too see the responsibility and discipline every month has motivated me to do the same. My fridge is jammed packed with junk and unhealthy foods ruining me and my 3yr old daughters health. Most ppl end up throwing out so much at the end of the month anyways. Stacey is healthy, budget conscience, and you don't waste food- so she is pretty much my new hero!
The point I resonated with the most was number 6. I've had people assume I was poor because I only have two pairs of pants. I've also had people assume I had money because I have a newer car. Giving up doing and saying what we are "supposed" to is hard but necessary. Another great video!
I just found your channel and this is the first video I watched! I absolutely love your honesty! My girlfriend and I are also following Dave’s Ramsey’s guide to get rid of our debt! Your mindset around all of this is so on point. Not caring what other people think is HUGE! Thanks for sharing
With an appropriate proportion, also we can't help other's if we can't help ourselves if we get out of debt we have more to offer as we no longer have liabilities, which means that we can give more freely.
Haters are gonna hate. It's YOUR life to live. People are allowed to give advice and their opinion, BUT what you do with that information is up to YOU. This is what I taught my sons. Things that happen in my life are my responsibility, I quit blaming others for my life at 32, I am now 66. "You do not live my life, therefore you can't judge my life." Love your hair.
I love, love, love every point that you touched on. The hardest lesson for me to learn was that what people think of me is really none of my business. I often repeat this to people, mainly to other black women because I feel like that is something we need to let go of...other people's perception of the person we should be. I stopped giving gifts because I struggle with my own debt and I often found myself going into debt to buy gifts. I also don't give money when people are collecting money at work for certain things. I just don't have it because I'm working on my debt. I love your journey because you are doing what works for you. Keep it up! You're on the right track....your track. I'm sorry but I had to laugh when you said "If I cared more about their tears.." That statement was priceless!
MsSassyMT 😂😂 I’m so glad you enjoyed this video and my 6 points. It’s different for everyone. My deepest desire is for someone to watch my work and feel inspired enough to go do what they need to do for themselves financially. Because what no one is telling anyone is that we are all struggling in some way. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. 💜
👏👏👏 about going into debt gifting to ppl on "special occassions" you can still show appreciation to ppl w.o. going into debt. Youre def going against the grain here i applaud you for it bc when you step out of whats expected you get back lash. Its brave good for you for staying focused on your goals even if its not popular.
The gift giving is a lot. I really have to work on why I buy things for others, because it's really about me. I don't donate to our work fund which is $3 a month but if I see things on clearance or I get free items I donate.
really appreciate how honest you are about your struggles with being in debt and how to deal with it. I am also 200,000 in debt and it takes a lot of guts to come on youtube and be positive about the journey. thanks for not making me feel alone. My anxiety regarding my debt and future is making me crazy. Please continue to keep it real...you are helping people. Also, you are gorgeous and have a beautiful smile
I really appreciate the last two mental points you brought up. I don't have much debt compared to others (under 5k), but I am literally learning how to do things like cooking, budgeting and creating savings at the age of 35. I have monetary insecurities from my childhood that I am working on and am realizing abundance can come from things like simply waking up, having a good conversation, or cooking dinner, and doesn't have to mean I spend hundreds a month on Amazon for physical things. We all have a different journey and have to create a path that aligns with our personal wellbeing and health. I want to make sure I create a solid mental foundation so I can look back and know I've grown. I applaud you for speaking honesty and frankly about these things and your videos on emotional healing have been invaluable!!
I think they may be worried that she may be hoodwinking some people. Stacey seems nice enough, I do not think she will be out of debt anytime soon on her income. Hopefully, her company grows fast enough though. Good luck Ms.Flowers.
@@heinuchung8680 think she generates other streams of income through her businesses, but she doesn't disclose that so she may be inadvertently coming off as disingenuine however, I think nothing could be further than the truth.
Envy of what others have is what gets many people in debt in the first place. I am happy for her if she gets free stuff! Any one wanting to donate very high quality wines can send them to me for sampling first...
First one of your vids I've watched. Totally inspirational! A couple points that stuck out to me were working part-time and the empty fridge. My friends and neighbors feel bad for my empty fridge, but hey, I've got oatmeal, rice, and frozen veggies, so I'm good. I'm inspired to give up my daily coconut yogurt habit($60/month) and coconut water($35/month). I don't need those things. Time to start using my water bottle again. Also, I have a mental illness that prevents me from working full time. Even part-time, I'm really, really struggling to function. I've cut back on my spending and can cover my bills now, just barely. But with some of the things you've mentioned, I can pay down my debt and get some things fixed that need fixing, like a window of my house and the slow-leaking wheel on my car. Values. It's all about values. You and I value the future freedom that will come with being debt free.
I LOOOOOVE yogurt & organic milk . I'm going to try to cut or lower these items in my budget. I pay $6.00 for 1/2 gallon of organic milk & I generally drink 3 a week. That's $72 JUST in milk. DEFINITELY something to consider. I like her videos. Debt free is the place to be!!
I just arrived to your channel because TH-cam put this video in my recommendations. Wow, you are amazing! I am just starting a get-out-of-debt journey, planning to start aggressively paying things down starting in November. I appreciate your straightforwardness, your honesty, and your sound advice. Thank you for doing this work - and I recognize that it is work for you to share your story. Particularly in that last part of this video...that is some *hard* work you're talking about: giving up caring about how other people feel about your journey, and how you *think* other people are viewing your choices. when I clicked "play" on this video, I thought you were going to focus mainly on practical ways to trim X, Y, and Z expenses from your budget. That's there, and I appreciate that stuff. But now that I've watched the video, the part I appreciate most is the part that I didn't expect: you talking about how it *feels* to walk the path that you know is right for you, despite what anyone else might think or do or say, or what cultural or social pressures you might feel. So so so important. Thank you.
You are oh so very welcome! I wanted to make sure people understand that a debt free journey isn't just about reducing expenses and increasing income it's an emotional experience that demands a mindset shift. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Hey Stacey, sometimes life events have people believe they are only victims, and some move out of being victim to be survivors, but you have grown to be a CELEBRANT!! I see you as free and not defined by any single event, and all the while, grounded in reality and with custody of your own life and choices. So wise to let go of responsibility for others thoughts and feelings. Very inspiring!!
So Stacey....just got to the part about the fridge...my husband and I by God's grace and similar hard work are out of debt (except mortgage) and continue to live well under our means... We do not keep a full fridge...and won't...we keep our monthly pantry items stocked and fridge items we shop weekly (otherwise things spoil). We tend to eat leftovers until done. We have a garden so that helped a lot with fresh veggies this summer/fall. Wish I could share our kale from the garden.
@@StaceyFlowers I am trying to get better about food. I am type 1 diabetic and have gained weight in the last four years. So trying to get my act together. Having a garden has helped.
@@shaniyawordsworth7800 we've thought about it. I did a few of my husband making the grow boxes last year. I'll see if he's up for it. We are going to start planning for the spring. He makes jellies from the peppers and pickles from the cucumbers too. We've made some great meals as well.
Thank you for weaving your depression into conversation like it's just another part of your life. Because it is! And it's so hard to just say "this is because of my depression" without feeling like we need to justify ourselves further somehow. I really appreciate that you're just matter-of-fact about it!!
Thanks for sharing this, Stacey!! I needed to hear this. I really loved number 6. I have always lived for others because I want to help them be happy, but I'm finally starting realize that no is okay for me. No is necessary for me. No doesn't make people hate me. No is just me establishing a boundary, and good friends and family will respect that. Thank you! God bless.
I definitely appreciate this video! I too am on a debt free journey of about 20K and what I noticed made the biggest difference was giving up the idea of who I was supposed to be and tying my identity to what other people thought (whatever that may be because I have no control over that). I've been looked down upon for having a roommate, not having a car etc even choosing to not go on certain trips or even out to drinks. The fact is that I'm on this journey and I am also investing in my own business and other people's businesses and pursuing my degree, so living with less doesn't affect my happiness or views of myself. I don't feel like I am missing out UNTIL I have people making fun of me for not having RIGHT NOW . There are certain luxury things ive never been attracted to anyway so it never bothered me but again being around those people can be toxic or make me believe that I am doing something wrong rather than something for my own long term betterment.
Well done, you! You're making smart long term financial decisions that will pay off best for you. I applaud you for not being a people pleaser, but making the best long term decisions for YOU!
I loved this video. I love how you consider more than “not purchasing” in order to reduce debt. That personal philosophies and strategies need careful consideration as well. You radiate determination.
Do you suppose this brand is a more authentic brand than the one you chose to let go of, or is it more authentic to this particular season of your life?
Sandy Smith Absolutely. This brand feels more authentic because it includes more of my personality. My other brand was “safe” compared to my current brand. This brand is way out of my comfort zone but is so much easier to execute. It’s funny how that worked out. Great question. 💜
You hit the nail right on the head with the talk of giving up meat! I too mostly have a vegan diet due to budgeting! Many people make fun of me for it (especially my family), but if I have the chance to go out, you better BELIEVE I'm going to order some type of meat! I also have an emptyish fridge! It's literally filled with what I need for 2 weeks, and I get comments on it ALL the time. I like my fridge being empty because it shows that 1. I'm eating healthy and 2. I'm sticking to my budget!
I don't get why eliminating meat is necessary. I got 1/4 of a cow for $450. That cow will be our meat for a year. Meat means I can cook the foods my family enjoys without feeling deprived. It keeps us from eating out or caving and splurging when we shouldn't. If I was single I could pull it off...but when one has a family there are other opinions to consider. The steaks become Christmas gifts (at $4 per pound it's a cheap "fancy" gift) and the ground beef stretches like you wouldn't believe. Now things like bacon, I won't compromise on. The nitrate/nitrite free bacon we like is $8 for 12 ounces so we only buy a single pack every two or three months.
@@sarahsmith9084 Good for you. Buying that cow at $450 is a steal however, a single person household usually doesn't have a freezer to store that in. When I grow up I'll remember to do that, especially the gifting part. THAT'S ideal! Blessings to you and your family 💖
@@sarahsmith9084 Hi! Personally for me, I cant just drop $450 at one time for meat. I also dont really eat red meat that often. Chicken is my go too but good chicken is usually expensive and I find that I can make more meals out of veggies than I can with a single package of meat. Its also just me in the house, it would be different if I had a huge family. But I need to be your friends if you are giving steaks as gifts! Lol!
Kaila Smith I’ve been a vegan for about a year and half, but I did it for health reasons. I began to notice that one of the pleasant perks was a much lower grocery bill! 😃
Stacy thank you for sharing your truth. I stumbled upon your 50$ grocery haul and now am looking into Dave Ramsey every dollar budget. I appreciate all that your doing it's definitely sparked a start in my own journey.
Stacey - Always take care of yourself 1st. As you get older the only person that's always going to be there for you is yourself. I'm 54 and have found out how true that is. Always be true to yourself. You are very wise and inspirational for being young! Don't worry about what people think. I have not once thought "oh, she should do this". I just follow, accept and get inspired by you!! Also, you look very pretty in pink!💖💖😀😀
Good point about friction. lately my mantra has been, friction=traction, and this fits right in! I used to avoid friction, now I know that without it, I am spinning my wheels.
Wow. #5 & #6 are SOOOOOO crucial. That takes courage and MAJOR self love that most ppl will never know or have. For just as many ppl who have a negative (intentional or unintentional) reaction to your journey, you'll inspire 2x as many. Keep inspiring! Blessings!
Thank you so much for letting me know my journey is impacting so many! #5 & #6 are crucial these to mindset shifts have made this journey possible! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
I always buy my phone independently. When you see how much that costs, you realize you can wait awhile before buying that next toy. Leasing it hides the true amount you pay.
My husband bought one of their wines. It was dumped down the drain after the first sip. It was TERRIBLE! We don't buy expensive wine, but that was absolute garbage. Unlike other items, alcohol is NOT returnable in my state. Much cheaper to avoid buying it altogether.
Thank You Thank You for this Stacey!! I have been following your journey for a little over 2 years now, and STILL you are an AMAZING Woman! Thank You for being my virtual COACH!!!
I had a problem for over a year with irregular menstrual cycles and was in and out of the doctors office all the time with ultra sounds, pelvic exams and even had a biopsy done and they couldn't find a problem but I wouldn't stop bleeding. was finally told I needed a hysterectomy and went to an acupuncturist and holistic doctor as a last resort because I couldn't afford a surgery and didn't want a hysterectomy if I didn't really need one. She told me to give up soy. I drank soy milk in my coffee, ate a lot of tofu, etc. She told me that soy is full of phyto estrogens and my hormones were going haywire. I cut out the soy and almost immediately my cycles were regulated.
I'm so happy you were able to find the cause of your menstrual issue. Soy is definitely not good for my body. Thank you for sharing your story and commenting.
Amber McMillan Yeah, that soy is no joke! The estrogen dominance is real! When I went vegetarian back in 2007, I was consuming soy like there was no tomorrow! It caused a major hormonal imbalance! I developed ten large fibroids that together, grew to be the size of a six-month fetus! Thank God I know what I know now. I had them removed and have been fibroid free and back in balance for over six years! 😃
You cut to my soul with the cellphone bill talk. We pay so much money for phone - and internet - to stay in contact with people, but if we don't have good relationships in the first place, why? WOW, that was amazing. God has given you discernment for sure!!! Also, # 5-6 were spot on. Thank you so much for sharing.
Stacy, I began watching you this summer. Because of you I began listening and watching Dave Ramsey, FPU. You have been an inspiration and the catalyst for my debt free journey. I’m hooked !!!! I’m rooting for you!
Girl you speak so well!! Your sacrifice will be with it one day. I live a frugal lifestyle bc I chose to, even tho I do not have to. It makes me happy knowing that I'm not waisting my money and have it when I need it. Other people are not going to pay your debt so don't worry about their opinion! Keep going strong girlfriend 💕
Bless you sister you continue to do your calling. You are a great mom who has taken the steps you need to in order to be financially free for you and your child regardless of the fact you are not their primary caretaker doesn't mean you are not their care taker. You are on your process and doing this your way and according to the plan God placed in your heart. Believe me there are alot of black women and others out here who are credit card queens and wished they could do what you are doing. I'm where you were and am now making strides to free myself from the debt I incurred. The first thing I did was fire myself from the roles I allowed others to assign me, I.e. Family, friend, associates etc...the roles of oh you're a boss you're a go getter you're successful, but at night I can't sleep trying to figure out how I'm going to pay for the lies I gave into. The true freedom is when you realize it's time to free yourself from financial enslavement and move in that change. Congrats I'm a new subscriber and will binge your previous vids. Blessings
I cut my own hair too! 👍🏾 Have been for 2 years. I use a rotary shaver that I bought off of Amazon. I was going to Supercuts and paying $16 plus tip so around $20 every two weeks because I couldn’t afford to go more often and starting to cut my own hair helped me in a couple of ways: 1. I could cut my hair more often, 2. I could save money. Once I cut my hair the first time, the shaver already had paid for itself.
Yo go girl!!! I love your honesty & candid nature! Way more people need to see this and have the same attitude about their finances & life in general. I'm totally here for it and appreciate you sharing your journey. You're beautiful inside & out - continue to let your light shine :)
Thank you Stacey, for sharing your story. Thank you for your candor on becoming debt-free, transitioning in rebuilding your brand and co-parenting. In the middle of this I accidentally patched into watching your TedX talk. You are fresh air, girl! I'm a fan!
I've watched other money management videos on TH-cam, but yours kept my attention because it was simply conversational. Like you I am a Dave Ramsey fan, and watching your video is motivating me to commit to the Financial Freedom lifestyle. Your video is relatable, keep them coming!
This has to be one of the best "getting out of debt videos" I have seen. It's so hard for people to understand the reasons why we cut out certain things, but we have to stay focused and not care what other people think. Good luck on your debt free journey!
I've watched quite a lot of your videos and I usually don't comment but I finally figured out why I keep watching. You're the type of role model that I've always looked for but never seen/found anywhere else. It's about putting yourself first as a woman in a world where that is frowned upon. I recently starting changing my habits and got some positive feedback but a lot more of it was people fighting against it, saying 'You're working too hard' and 'you never go out' or 'don't be afraid to spend money'. But when I turned 18 this year I took a stand for myself to draw MY boundaries and know where I want to be in life and know that I'm strong enough to say no to the closest people around me. It's hard because you feel like you're selfish and uncaring but you're not. You're just putting yourself first to heal before you can help everyone else. It's so unrecognized but it's beautiful to see you do it and to finally see I'm not alone.
As long as these "cuts" actually go towards servicing debt. I find that for me, this doesn't pan out. It just goes towards some fire that crops up and needs putting out...something to do with the car, or the house or a dependent family member.
You're still saving though. What would you do if you hadn't made those cuts? ...you would be in even more debt. It does suck though because it's hard to see the reward for all the sacrificing. I'm in the same boat. By the time I pay for all my medical issues - it's genetic and not something to be helped by a change in lifestyle etc. - I can't ever seem to get ahead. Most of my clothes are ones I dug out of boxes after I lost weight...so they're 20 years old. The only new thing I have is my shoes because I wear out a pair every month with my medical issues etc. If I skip a month I end up so bad I can't walk so it's not even for fun - it's just replacing the same boring old shoes month after month. Still, I'm stashing away 6% of my income in a matching 401K at work so at least I can have a semi-retirement to look forward to even if I never get "ahead".
Stacey, A HUGE thank you, for walking in your truth and being your authentic self. Have you ever consider doing a meet and greet? if so I will be there.
Thank you for this video. Yes ! Don't let what people think bother you. I'm learning that. You are doing what is best for you. I'm working on getting out of debt too and I'm getting better, slowly but I know it's what best in order to get ahead.
But the pink turtle neck is FIYAHHHHHH!!!! I love it! Your make up and top are a very nice compliment to each other! Go girl! Thank you for this video. I've learned a lot! Think I'll look into Mr. Dave Ramsey's Plan too! Blessings!
I love you talking about cutting meat. I don't cut soy, it works for me - we're all different, but so many people think they have to have meat to be full and/or healthy. It really isn't, even if you don't want to be vegan or long-term vegetarian, but just cutting down on meat can save people so much money. Beans and Lentils can be such a blessing, they're cheap in bulk bins and so filling
Indeed! I think it’s more about being intentionally in my choices overall with everything we put in our body! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. 💜
This video was well thought through, Stacey. You talking about having difficulty saying ' No' to people reminds me of Erkhaedt (probably mis-spelt his first name) Tolle talking about speaking a strong 'No' and not a weak 'No' . Girl, you're learning how to say a strong 'No' and it's taken you many tears and worries to get yourself there, but learning that lesson (in all areas of your life) is learning how to be a strong human! You need to forgive the people who asked for more than you were able to give, and forgive yourself too. Because you all were struggling and afraid. They didn't want to hurt you, and you didn't want to hurt them. I remind myself often that Jesus said 'Let Your Yes be Yes, and Your No Be No. Anything more than that comes from the Evil One'.
Cellphone contracts are useless..... I did the same thing you did sis... I've been using a prepaid plan for three years now.... Saved tons of money by doing so. Your gorgeous sis. Keep up the great work.
I love listening to you. Listening to you relaxes me, it is like meditation. I wish you only the best and hope you'll grace us with more videos to come.
My hubby and i started #2 3 months ago and it can be HARD but we are doing it...CONGRATS on not caring what others think of you!!! Love it!!! Love your hair...
Love number 6 - well done for not being weighed down by others and creating your own path. You must get so much negativity about not being the primary carer - but why is it perfectly acceptable for a man not to be a primary carer and not a woman? You seem very head strong and determined, keep doing as you do :)
Numbers 5 and 6 were deep--this is THE most honest and real debt journey story I have ever heard. You are helping to set a lot of people free with this one (myself included). Great job Stacey keep it up!
Thank you so much for acknowledging the debt of my content! It's amazing how many people have been impacted by this video already! Thank you so so much for watching and commenting!
You do you, Stacey! I know how it feels to be the parent paying child support instead of raising my child, and as the mother, I am sick of having people think there must be something wrong with me. I have yet to get to the place where I just don't care what people think, but I know that is on me. I have to learn to accept that it was the best thing at the time for all parties involved, but I'm not there yet. I love that you are so open about these things. It makes me feel less alone. Thank you!
There’s an authenticity in your delivery that keeps me rooting for you from the very first time I came into your channel. The most impactful from today is living for you and not caring what others may think. Especially with social media, a lot that we see is a facade.? You are living your truth and I love it!!🙏🏽
Stacey! You are beautiful inside and out. I love your honesty and how you bared your soul, taking about your new lifestyle, personal choices how it has affected it you mentally and physically. My husband and I do not buy meat either and rarely buy seafood. also cut my hair back in January, and it's saved me alot of money. Although I'm natural and use to get crotchet braids in, the big chop was a huge money saver. I look forward to seeing more of your videos and trying the DR plan. Although we are not in HUGE debt, there are debts I'm working to pay off.
This has helped me, motivate me, and push me!! I am a 30 yr old nursing student working 2days a week and darling times hard. I probably cry every other day, but I trust that it will all work together for my good. Your openness has helped me to realize so many things. I thank you, and appreciate you!! #keeppressing and please keep sharing
Keona Monae you can do it. I went to nursing school out of state when I was 30. I also had 2 young children and a house note. I worked 2 jobs out of state while away in nursing school and one job when I came home for holidays. GOD held my hands. it’s been almost 10yrs since I graduated with my BSN and I’m still paying off my student loans.YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
I love all your videos but I think this one is the best. I am retired and living on a limited budget. You just gave me the best idea on reducing my cell phone bill. Thanks.
You are one of the few people I love to watch! I have been learning more ways to save money everyday and happy to share these on my channel. A few people like you taught me that it’s important to share money saving tips with people out there. Thank you!
Another awesome video. Love your honesty and I agree... a huge part of changing your lifestyle is not worrying about the hang ups of others. Our refrigerator looks similar and we get those reactions too. My mom brings food over because she thinks that we are starving.
Sis, I just found your channel this week and the timing is great. Thank you for trusting enough to be vulnerable. I’ve also giving up “paying” for hair styles/ haircuts. I no longer buy hair extensions and I am back to wearing my hair shaved. I wore my hair shave for years but with the battle of depression and anxiety, I became very abusive to myself and feel into being pleasing to others. I’m back to my healing journey and seeking freedom.
I can definitely relate with the struggle of knowing your child would best benefit from living full-time with her dad... and letting go of an image that no longer served either of Us🌹 One of the best decisions I could ever have made for her💜❤️
Parenting is tough because we have to make tough decisions. I'm proud of my decision and I adore the man my son is becoming. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Thank you so much for this video Stacey. I graduated university in September and I'm starting my salaried postgraduate teacher training in January and was thinking about how I should budget and save money whilst paying off my student loan. I'll have to check out the Dave Ramsey Plan for sure!
Loved this. LOVED IT ! It's really cool how you mentioned holistic healing and avoiding pre-packaged and soy products. I also was gaining weight and having weird estrogen-related issues and thyroid problems a few years back and found that avoiding these food items (as well as dairy/lactose) was a massive help (how some of this stuff is allowed to be in food to begin with is dubious). I have also always been one of those people that had an 'old, outdated' phone, and often thought "what's the big deal, it's not broken and it does the job" - when people would hack on me for having an old phone. Of course now we're becoming more aware how 'disposable technology' (and other things like fast fashion, or over consumption in general) is really environmentally damaging..as well as expensive. Down-grading fashion and beauty purchases is a big one (as women, this can be tricky especially considering all the media messages about appearance etc.). As others have mentioned, you have a naturally beautiful face and good bone structure so that can be handy for this look. But it's good to keep in mind that there are many various versions of beauty that stand outside of narrow media portrayals - and that can save a lot of cash (if the beauty industry wasn't profitable, there wouldn't be so many companies out there with 'snake oil' products making us all feel bad about ourselves). Also, working part time can still be profitable and immensely sanity-saving. Often the more you work, the more you need (ie. food, transportation, clothing etc.) and very often you end up paying more taxes or investing in large purchases (like a vehicle, pricey electronic items) to get to/do work, so it's a treadmill cycle of earning and spending with not much more to show at the end. Many thanks !!!
Stacey, I just want to say I have so much respect for you regarding the changes you are making in order to be debt free and have a better life. It takes a lot of courage, focus, and soul searching to realize that change is needed and then to stand firm in your journey regardless of what others are saying and doing. You are a wonderful inspiration.
Reneiya Green been doing this! Boost, Metro PCS, etc! They everywhere! It’s really helpful. Some of them have specials on iPhones and androids or just buy them refurbished unlocked on eBay or amazon. Save soooooo much 🤑
Reneiya Green IMO I do prefer them over androids but not one to pay several hundreds of dollars for a phone. I just got a 6 last year for $150 bc Boost had a special, my Android was acting crazy and that’s the only reason I switched. Idc about it being several generations behind either. I see the difference though with some features. Had it a year now with no problems. Galaxy’s and the google phones are great too per some friends I know. If ain’t broke don’t fix it is what I say..
This Blessed me so much. My son lives with his father because we divorced and he wanted after a few years to live with his father, I felt guilty, like what mother doesn't raise her child full time. Your transparency has truly been an encouragement. Blessings Sis.
This was really good. I'm guilty of worrying too much about what others think. I have about 63k of debt mainly student loans and I want so badly to get out of it. I keep trying but I never sit down and really out down rules and do what I should do. Your channel is super helpful tho. Thanks for being this honest and open.
You can do it!!! It takes changing your mindset, habits, and your way of living. That’s what my husband and I have had to do and now there’s no going back. We started with over $80K of debt and now we are under $60K. It’s a long hard journey but you can do it. The hardest part is changing your mindset and your desires, but it’s doable. You have to want it bad enough.
I like the baby steps philosophy to the extreme. I took baby steps getting rid of expenses. I got rid of one thing at a time, like cutting my phone data plan down. Now I have hardly any data like 100 mg, but I worked my way down to that saving a lot more each time. Instead of reading blogs and facebook on my phone when I am waiting for things or bored, I read kindle books from the library.
sarasuperid I’m about to switch my phone from sprint to a month to month. I gave up a bunch but i need to do more honestly. ClassPass and the GYm, i can workout for free on TH-cam. There are so many ways to do things for free but i just have to put it in action. So glad i found this page so i know I’m not alone.
Amy Ali thanks! I’m so close to paying off two cards in the next two months and then i will only have student loan debt and i want to get that out the way because one was private and keeps getting bigger and bigger due to interest. I want this debt free life so bad.
This is the first time that I have watched one of your videos. I came here to discover tips about getting rid of my debt and being financially responsible. BUT what i got was something that I needed even more than that, it was a message about letting go of what people think. I feel tremendous guilt sometimes about giving and helping someone to feel happy and content even when I know they are asking for things they don't need and I have savings that I wouldn't touch to get myself those things. I am on a journey to do what is best for me and have to be comfortable when others don't understand what I am doing. Thank you for this.
Such a powerful example you set. I know that I need to do at least 4 of the things you did, not to get out of debt but to free myself up emotionally. Thank you for sharing your story and your truth.
I absolutely love everything about this video. The honesty is refreshing to me. I save so much money eating a plant based diet. Red meat and soy are not kind to my body so I get it. Please keep sharing. You are inspiring me and reaffirming decisions I’m making. Thank you.
Stacey, I totally understand what you are saying. I am in the process of transforming my brand as well to meet my Financial Peace Plan but also align better with my own personal life and experiences. I enjoy your honesty and transparency. This is the best journey you will ever take because it will free you up to do so much more in life. Blessings to you!
Your truth is refreshing. Never heard of you. Just happened to land on your page. Definitely a new subby! Thank you for your voice and I look forward to sitting on the sideline of your journey. ❤️
Really, this was truly inspiring to me. Everything you said, resonated with me--especially as a black woman. I get suckered in by relatives (male) who are older than me & who have earned much more than I have in their lives--but who have had no financial sense whatsoever. I have bought food, phones, beer, etc. for an uncle who disrespects me but is ever-so-charming when he wants to be. I gotta get over being the family caregiver.
I understand exactly where you are coming from. I think one way to get over being the family caregiver is to ask yourself "how does being the family caregiver serve you?" Like it's obvious why people depend on you. But you have to get to the root of why you allow it. It serves you in some way and until you figure that out it, you'll maintain the role as a part of your identity. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
You've made me realize how grateful I am that my hair is so low maintenance. I cut my hair once a year, I spend maybe $20(at the MOST) and it's only to get split ends off and have my bangs redone. Honestly, I could probably do it myself;I used to as a teen, but I love the basic "head massage" you get when going to a beauty shop lol.
I find it so funny that people get mad when TH-cam influencers get donations,sponsorships... I'm like do you expect to go to work and not get paid! HELLZ TO DAH NAH! Then don't expect people to come up on here with their love, passion and time and not get the coins! They just hating because they scared and on a job they hate but won't step out on faith to do what they want to do... Old stiff neck people! Keep it up girl!
Thank you for breaking that down for the people. LOL. I agree that people misunderstand work especially when it's filled with love and passion. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Davida Singleton Thank you. 👏🏾 This most definitely needed to be said. People need to stop shaming people for accepting the money they deserve for the work they put in. If product promotion helps them to live their best life by sharing a part of themselves on TH-cam, then let them live their best life without trying to make them feel embarrassed about the tools they use to achieve that.
largeroomnolight well said darling. That’s usually people who hating. Hard workers don’t have a problem with that because we know that we reap what we sow
@@StaceyFlowers ....Many people have poor perspective. I see organizations and fund raising everywhere. Currently, grocery stores are great high volume places where "fund raising" is going on days before Thanksgiving. Not 1 out of 100 people know exactly what % of money donations are reaching the people that these "hand out" organizations solicit for. Funny how these organizations are never 'under the spotlight'. Yet their totally invisible people running these fundraisers are getting millions of dollars from aligning themselves with retail outlet companies. You presented more "full disclosure" than they do.
I just want to say that my husband and I went through Dave Ramsey's FPU several years ago. It had to be the most financially enlightening experience we both have ever had. We pay cash for everything which is hard for a lot of people to understand, but it feels normal to us, There was a time that I had to have a lot of dental work done that our saving would not cover. We used credit for it and it was the strangest feeling. We are actively paying that down. It's hard for people to believe that they can live on what they make. You do have sacrifice to get there, but once you make up your mind and start, it is very exciting. We would listen to people every Friday on his show scream "we're debt free"(including the mortgage!) " So you are well on your way young lady. Very wise for your years!!
Cheers to a financially enlightening experience!! I think Dave Ramsey is hands down the most awesome financial guru out there! I am so happy and grateful that I found his plan and I'm following it!
She's amazing. Here's a SUMMARY:
1.) She cuts her own hair / Gave up getting her hair cut
2.) Gave up cell phone contract
3.) Gave up meat
4.) Gave up soy products, pre-packaged food, and buying wine
5.) Gave up her brand (that centered around luxury and abundance, that revolved around a certain perception that she had to maintain... it was very difficult for her)
6.) Gave up what other people think about her journey - family, friends, those in her own culture, those in other cultures, strangers, and all etc. Including her own thoughts and assumptions about what other people think
I'm so grateful. Still listen to the entire thing and subscribe, she's next level. Love it. Thank you!
Cindy T Fantastic summary! Thanks & appreciated.
Thanks
❤💃🏾
Thank you so much!
Thank you for the summary! She lost me when she started talking and kept on talking about her brand.
WOW! You made great changes! I'm so excited to see how this journey goes for you! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Took me
5 1/2years. I follow the Dave Ramsey 7 baby steps as well and even coordinated 2 classes. Great job sis thank you for allowing us to be apart of your journey! You can do it trust me!!
THANK YOU for telling me that you paid off your debt!!! Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Your success is so so so inspiring!
Congrats!!! 118k debt free is such a major accievement 🙌🏾
So hard but oh so very necessary + life changing! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
The Frugal Life - with Mercedes
A new car saves on mechanic expense.
Your inner spirit is clutter free youre already out of debt internally.......youll reduce it monetarily as well.
I love this :)
Cynthia Freeman wow! beautiful
Cynthia Freeman yesssssss
Yes, well said.
I was thinking the same, but I didn't know how to put it in words.
I just found your channel and this is the first video I watched! I absolutely love your honesty! My girlfriend and I are also following Dave’s Ramsey’s guide to get rid of our debt! Your mindset around all of this is so on point. Not caring what other people think is HUGE! Thanks for sharing
So happy you found my channel! So excited that you and your girlfriend are following Dave's program!!! Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Stacey Flowers hk p
Because you have a beautiful face, you can pull off a no-hair look. Hair just doesn't matter when you've got such natural beauty!
typhoidmary34 Thank you ☺️
Yup, I agree (nodding)
So trhe
Well... how many bold women do you see out there?
I concur
No matter how much debt you have .. Giving is always a blessing ..
MrSmith amen
MrSmith Absolutely, the blessings re incomparable....
Exactly she’s giving her time and advice which is more than enough
With an appropriate proportion, also we can't help other's if we can't help ourselves if we get out of debt we have more to offer as we no longer have liabilities, which means that we can give more freely.
You can't give what you don't have except non material.
Haters are gonna hate. It's YOUR life to live. People are allowed to give advice and their opinion, BUT what you do with that information is up to YOU. This is what I taught my sons. Things that happen in my life are my responsibility, I quit blaming others for my life at 32, I am now 66.
"You do not live my life, therefore you can't judge my life."
Love your hair.
thank you oh so very much! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.
I love this! I need to remember this. So many judgmental people in this world.
Stacey!!! You look RADIANT today. That color looks good on you. Thanks for sharing. Got me over re-evaluating a few things...
Awwe thank you so much for the compliment! I'm loving this color too! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Thank you so much for the compliments. You are not alone. We will be debt free. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
I'm so happy you appreciate my content. I love love making these videos! Thank you so much for watching!
Same here. I'm 34 and this video was right on time for me and my journey.
Why are people pissed that she gets donations? It comes with the territory. Start you a channel or brand and people will pour into you too. 🤷🏽♀️
Pretty Brown Nomad 😂😂😂😂 I think it’s hard for people because money is EMOTIONAL. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
@@StaceyFlowers Girl people are a mess. Lol May you continue to grow.
I think they may be worried that she may be hoodwinking some people. Stacey seems nice enough, I do not think she will be out of debt anytime soon on her income. Hopefully, her company grows fast enough though. Good luck Ms.Flowers.
@@heinuchung8680 think she generates other streams of income through her businesses,
but she doesn't disclose that so she may be inadvertently coming off as disingenuine
however, I think nothing could be further than the truth.
Well said & thank you for your vulnerability to share.
Thank you oh so very much!
I can't wait to garden one day! We seem to have a similar food philosophy! Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
@@StaceyFlowers I am trying to get better about food. I am type 1 diabetic and have gained weight in the last four years. So trying to get my act together. Having a garden has helped.
You should think about making videos about your garden. How you started it, maintain...stuff like that.
@@shaniyawordsworth7800 we've thought about it. I did a few of my husband making the grow boxes last year. I'll see if he's up for it. We are going to start planning for the spring.
He makes jellies from the peppers and pickles from the cucumbers too. We've made some great meals as well.
I love this
Thank you for weaving your depression into conversation like it's just another part of your life. Because it is! And it's so hard to just say "this is because of my depression" without feeling like we need to justify ourselves further somehow. I really appreciate that you're just matter-of-fact about it!!
Kathleen Phelan You are so right! It's something we should be able to talk about just like anything else and stop the stigma!
Yes! Erasing stigma one comment/video at a time! 💯
Oh, she suffers from depression? Oh!
In the words of Dave Ramsey ' live like no one else ,so later you can live like no one else. Good job girl. Be weird , be different .

AMEN SIS!!!!❤❤❤
Yay!
I loved this video. I love how you consider more than “not purchasing” in order to reduce debt. That personal philosophies and strategies need careful consideration as well. You radiate determination.
Thank you so much! My mindset shifts have had the greatest impact overall. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
You are magnificent! I'm in my 60's, healing my finances, and living my truth, too. As I say to others: DO YOU, BOO! DO YOU!
Thank you!
Kaila Smith I like an empty fridge because it looks clean! 😭... also because you know there’s nothing unnecessary or rotting in there!
That's so awesome! I'm so so happy to inspire you to do that! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

Thank you so much for your support :)
I just love her! She's so honest and REAL!
Good point about friction. lately my mantra has been, friction=traction, and this fits right in! I used to avoid friction, now I know that without it, I am spinning my wheels.
Indeed! I'm excited to see how that friction works out as I move into my second year! Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
I cannot tell you how much I needed to see this video, and hear your voice speak directly to me today!! Total game changer for me...THANK YOU!
So so so glad you needed this video! I enjoyed creating it!
If you're near an Aldi, try their wines. Cheaply priced but the taste isn't cheap.
Lala J Winking Owl is my go to!
Aldi is my spot! I shop there biweekly and have cut my grocery bill in half!
Yep, Aldi wine is it. $2.69 here in Southwest Tn. They are closed right now here to expand so we have to go in to Memphis to Costco.
My husband bought one of their wines. It was dumped down the drain after the first sip. It was TERRIBLE! We don't buy expensive wine, but that was absolute garbage. Unlike other items, alcohol is NOT returnable in my state. Much cheaper to avoid buying it altogether.

Yes they also do prize winner reds very nice
I TOTALLY love your candor! You are a breath of fresh air. Thank you bunches!
I'm so glad this video resonated with you! Thank you so much for the compliments :)
Stacy, I began watching you this summer. Because of you I began listening and watching Dave Ramsey, FPU. You have been an inspiration and the catalyst for my debt free journey. I’m hooked !!!!
I’m rooting for you!
I’m re-evaluating mycellphone service right now. Thanks for this video. Never thought of it at all.
You are so very welcome! My provider is virgin mobile :)
Stacey Flowers where did you purchase your iPhone?
I’m thinking about this so much... Please, where did you purchased your iPhone?
Me too!
Alot of phone company are willing to let you purchase the iPhone in full
Blessings
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for your kind words and blessings!
Tyari your bald head it beautiful!!
von G-way hey thanks!! 😉
I'm a fan!
You are glowing with beauty!! Congratulations on your baby step #2!
Thank you oh so very much!
I've watched other money management videos on TH-cam, but yours kept my attention because it was simply conversational. Like you I am a Dave Ramsey fan, and watching your video is motivating me to commit to the Financial Freedom lifestyle. Your video is relatable, keep them coming!
Thank you Stacey. I am not a thick-skinned person and what you said at the end gave me a lot to think about.
Thank you for lighting a path. You inspire me to be braver. I am so glad to see someone "Saying" & "Doing" the real/hard stuff to push forward.
This has to be one of the best "getting out of debt videos" I have seen. It's so hard for people to understand the reasons why we cut out certain things, but we have to stay focused and not care what other people think. Good luck on your debt free journey!
Jennifer Hawkins I said the same thing#Truth#100
Slowly but surely is the key! Getting out of debt is a marathon, not a sprint! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
This video is teaching me so much Im 22 and this is my first take on Finances, Budgeting, And Saving thank you for making this and wish me luck
This is so transparent and refreshing. Thank you!
You are so so very welcome. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
I’m so glad I came across this video. You are so awesome and genuine! Keep walking in your truth. You inspired me!
I'm so happy you found my channel too :) Thank you for watching and commenting!
Saves a ton of money!
I love listening to you. Listening to you relaxes me, it is like meditation. I wish you only the best and hope you'll grace us with more videos to come.
Thank you so much for watching and the well wishes!
I am literally so glad the universe brought me to your channel. It was divine timing! Thank you.
Divine timing indeed! So happy you found my channel!
In my opinion this is the best video you have made - so authentic and empowering. Well done you! Hope the business is going well ❤️
Rebecca Ramsden Awwwwwe Thank you so much! Business is going well. 💜
Thank you!
You are not alone. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
So so so happy you are enjoying my content! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
Keona Monae
you can do it.
Thanks.
Judy Wimmer you are so very welcome! 💜 thank you so much for this comment.
You are one of the few people I love to watch! I have been learning more ways to save money everyday and happy to share these on my channel. A few people like you taught me that it’s important to share money saving tips with people out there. Thank you!
I applaud you for your honesty and candor. Thank you
Your honesty is refreshing. Your path is just that, your path. You walk it the best way that works for you.
Another awesome video. Love your honesty and I agree... a huge part of changing your lifestyle is not worrying about the hang ups of others. Our refrigerator looks similar and we get those reactions too. My mom brings food over because she thinks that we are starving.
Sis,
I just found your channel this week and the timing is great.
Great video. I used the Dave Ramsey Snowball method. I am now debt free 10 years.
Thank you so much for this video Stacey. I graduated university in September and I'm starting my salaried postgraduate teacher training in January and was thinking about how I should budget and save money whilst paying off my student loan. I'll have to check out the Dave Ramsey Plan for sure!
It will be one of the best decisions you ever make in your lifetime!
Loved this.
There are so many good nuggets in this video I don't even know where to start!!
I’ve never heard of a prepaid plan like that. Def gotta check it out. I pay way too much for cell service.
Check out Straight Talk
Reneiya Green been doing this! Boost, Metro PCS, etc! They everywhere! It’s really helpful. Some of them have specials on iPhones and androids or just buy them refurbished unlocked on eBay or amazon. Save soooooo much 🤑
Dietrichdenise Do the iPhones actually work well? I never had one . If I could get one for a decent price I might consider this
Reneiya Green IMO I do prefer them over androids but not one to pay several hundreds of dollars for a phone.
4 lines for 100.00 at Cricket thee best decision ever unlimited
This Blessed me so much. My son lives with his father because we divorced and he wanted after a few years to live with his father, I felt guilty, like what mother doesn't raise her child full time. Your transparency has truly been an encouragement. Blessings Sis.
I admire how lean your budget is!
I admire your self control. I’d love to see a video of things you indulge in whether they’re budget friendly or a little less than. :)
This was really good. I'm guilty of worrying too much about what others think. I have about 63k of debt mainly student loans and I want so badly to get out of it. I keep trying but I never sit down and really out down rules and do what I should do. Your channel is super helpful tho. Thanks for being this honest and open.
You are so very welcome!
Thanks for this video. It digs deeper than other people's video on this topic. I really appreciate that.
Tiffany Sauter Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it. 💜
Thank you.
So happy to inspire you! My body still loves meat but my budget is like not today, Stacey! Not today! LOL
So so happy to have you here :)
This is a breath of fresh air. I’m from the U.K. and I will definitely be following these tips.
so so happy you enjoyed it!
Side note, i just realized you have the same clippers that I use to cut my husband's hair!
Stacey Flowers thank you for responding and you're welcome. I just subscribed also! 😊❤️
It had
to be the most financially enlightening experience we both have ever had. We pay cash for everything which
is hard for a lot of people to understand, but it feels normal to us, There was a time that I had to have
a lot of dental work done that our saving would not cover. We used credit for it and it was the
strangest feeling. We are actively paying that down. It's hard for people to believe that they can live on what
they make. You do have sacrifice to get there, but once you make up your mind and start, it is very
exciting. We would listen to people every Friday on his show scream "we're debt free"(including the
mortgage!) " So you are well on your way young lady. Very wise for your years!!
Cheers to a financially enlightening experience!! I think Dave Ramsey is hands down the most awesome financial guru out there! I am so happy and grateful that I found his plan and I'm following it!
