Your comment shows your lack of education and ignorance. The prophet had 1 whife for much of his adult like until she died then married divorces converts and widows. The quran say marry up to 4 but if u cant do justice and man cannot then marry only 1. There was no welfare system in that time. Get some education.

The Rabbi has forgotten the Tenach verses that say his wives took him away from worship of Elohim. He started out well, but he was not 12 years old, otherwise there would be a regent appointed for him until he came to be about 20. He must have been 20 because the Tenach says he died after 40 years as king and his son Rehoboam was 41 years old when he became king. So Rehoboam was born 1 year before Solomon was king.

Funny explanation. Simple answer is due to temptation nothing to do with keeping peace with neighbouring kings. Assuming one wife represents one neighbouring king... so 1000 wives means there were 1000 neighbouring kings around Israel at tat time. This does not sound realistic for an area smaller than China or India. Suppose that he had a great wisdom, was there no other way to keep peace.... if this is the case, then the wisdom tgat King Solomon had was not that great, as claimed in yhe bible. Tge truth is this, no matter how wise a man or woman is, if he or she is unable to control his or her basic instincts, then the wisdom will be quite meaningless. In the case of King Solomon, although he was very wise, the wisdom cannot control his basic instincts. He should ask one more thing other than wisdom, that should be tge ability to resist temptation.

It was common practise of Near East to have so many women as you could. In fact Solomon was obliged to have so big "garem" because he was prominent ruler in region. It is clear that 300 and 700 are symbolic numbers. Rabbie's had forbidden poligamy only during middle ages. In written Torah by itself polygamy wasn't forbidden.

    1 Kings 11
7: Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.

It is because no man in infallible. This was Solomon's greatest weakness and he fell for it to the point of technically worshipping other Gods. David had a similar problem. God let this happen and it was their free will and choice. You can say that it is for the benefit of peace, but you should realize this is 'mostly' false. You dont need 300 concubines when you have 700 wives unless you have a problem. But you know what? There is a benefit of other Kings seeing this as a part of Solomon's wealth. Not to mention the fact that he would have many descendants, which was probably the greatest benefit of all. Concubines in general were, even though a part of ancient society, a sin regardless. In the book of Ezekiel, God describes Israel as his daughter. He clothes her and protects her after He has seen that she is ready for love. It seems a daughter should be protected- concubines alone to any king were a mistake.
Why do I mention this? To reiterate the fact that no man is infallible, and even David made a great mistake, as great a king as he was. We know today the concept of a concubine was wrong, of course that doesnt mean Solomon was a bad person or that he was doing anything out of the norm. I would say that the mistakes he made were exactly as you put it Tovia- He thought for him it would be okay. Why would he think that? Perhaps it was because he thought his wisdom was infallible. But I like to fall on the side of him not wanting to realize that he is partaking in lust, not wanting to say to himself that maybe he has become selfish as a king, regardless of his Wisdom. He ignored it to the point of delusion- He let in other Gods. This is why I fall on the darker side of the same line you're on, because of the delusion in his mind that followed the lustful corruption. The same thing happened with David on a lesser scale, but with David it was committing murder. Great discussion regardless.

Does the Hebrew bible read the below differently from the Christian English bible?
    1 Kings 11
4 In his old age, his wives tempted him to follow other gods. He was no longer committed to the Lord his God as his father David had been. 5 Solomon followed Astarte (the goddess of the Sidonians) and Milcom (the disgusting idol of the Ammonites). 6 So Solomon did what the Lord considered evil. He did not wholeheartedly follow the Lord as his father David had done. 7 Then Solomon built an illegal worship site on the hill east of Jerusalem for Chemosh (the disgusting idol of Moab) and for Molech (the disgusting idol of the Ammonites). 8 He did these things for each of his foreign wives who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

2.102 And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]." And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah . And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew.

Difference is between Jewish and that certain religion is that Torah does not forbid mulitple wives nor set limit. Whereas a certain so called prophet from a certain religion put limit yet exceeded the limit because he has "special privileges." Please do not harass Rabbi with nonsense. Guess this is where I bring up the Dostan Samaritans who claimed that ONLY the Ten Utterances came from Heaven and that all the REST of the Torah was made up by Moses...but Jeremiah was clearly pointing to problems of his own time...which would have been SOLVED by the 70-Year exile...though one would surmise those that were writing lies would have found succor with Sanballat when he started setting up Gerizim in opposition to Jerusalem...so it would have been then the Samaritans who were then writing kaka. The Samaritans did NOT recognise Jeremiah or Isaiah or prophets after Moses and even looked to a prophet Greater Than Moses.

An apologist is a person who's already committed to a conclusion and then goes about twisting and contorting their way to making their conclusion palatable, however unreasonable it sounds.
We're told Solomon married his way to peace,... sure marrying the daughters of adversarial nation states was a way of avoiding conflict but over 1000!... C'mon!
Then, the wisest man who ever lived (who also had the gift of prophecy) apparently isn't smart or insightful enough to foresee the impending idol worship that is allowed to penetrate his kingdom under his impressively wise nose.
O.K., you're free to place eruv posts around your intellect but it doesn't pass the sniff test on so many levels.

    Concerning a Godly king:
"When you come to the land which the Lord your God is giving you, and possess it and dwell in it, and say, ‘I will set a king over me like all the nations that are around me,’ 15 you shall surely set a king over you whom the Lord your God chooses; one from among your brethren you shall set as king over you; you may not set a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. 16 But he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses, for the Lord has said to you, ‘You shall not return that way again'. 17 Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself.
18 “Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. 19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, 20 that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel". ~ Deuteronomy 17
So, no amassing of horses, no multiplying of wives, and no excessive accumulating of silver and gold.
These commands were designed to prevent the king from trusting in military might, following foreign God's, and relying on wealth instead of on God. In modern times, a President, Premier, or Prime Minister, seeking to be a Godly leader is faced with abiding by this instruction.

Absolutely I don't share your point of view, that man didn’t trust in the Lord IF that was the reason(s). Obviously, he had no morals. He wasn’t doing what the Lord Almighty Told him to do. He was preaching something and living in immorality.

Besides that, how many countries were surrounding Israel in those days? No more than four. I am not saying this to criticize him. I am saying this to make sense of his behavior and immorality. The Lord Always has been able to protect and provide for Israel, he didn’t need foreign women or many wives to empower himself!
The only things we can to are: Obey and Respect The Lord. Nothing else, No one can tell he/she loves God if such a person doesn’t obey nor respect Him.
Don’t judge me wrong, I love Salomon, pieces of advice, they are all wonderful and useful. I want and I need to practice, believe and enforce them in my daily living, but I want and I need to stay away from his life examples.

Ismael was also circumcised and he practiced the same religion as Abraham. If he was disowned, he wouldn’t have been circumcised nor would he have attended Abraham’s funeral. Even Moses married Zipporah, who was herself an Ishmaelite, a monotheist follower of Abraham’s religion...otherwise Moses wouldn’t have married her is she was a pagan. I even heard a Rabbi come up with a theory that Zipporah’s father Jethro was a priest/guardian of the Kaaba. The same Rabbi went on to theorize that the Kaaba was a Jewish temple that Moses wanted to bring his people to for pilgrimage. Well, we Muslims say Abraham built the Kaaba with Ishmael. Muhamad, a descendant of Ishmael, was sent to restore the true religion of Abraham after they deviated into idolatry over the generations. This anti-IShmael stance of Christians and Jews, is due to the tribalist mentality of Middle Easterners (they are still tribalist people, whether 5000 years and today 2021, evident in modern day Arabia...’my tribe is superior to yours’ bs), who ever added or purposely mistranslated that line accusing Ishmael of being like a wild donkey...so fake...and contradicts the other verses in favor of him.
