I'm not even getting the Sims 5. I'm done. I've spent way too much money on the shit that is called the Sims 4. I agree when you said, there should be a change table at vanilla level for the new infants... why isn't there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have $50 (Australian) to buy Growing Together. Growing Together should be BASE GAME!!! EA are pricks and I wish Maxis would f*** them off! I don't even have Werewolves or Highschool because of the damn price!!!! BUT I get stupid Fears/Wants and even after I turned that irrelevant SHIT off (as it's random algorithns) not to the Sims personality... it's bugged and the fears stay and I can't get rid of them because I turned the fucking thing off! So what am I going to do... Start a new fucking Game!!! Delete the UGLY Goth's they made and replace them with OGs (that I customized based on the Goth/Crumplebottom/Bachelor family tree I made)... I hate that they didn't make a connection with Johnny even though he disowned them (shouldn't be able to romance Nancy... but they don't care about that) and the fact that my Sims can marry their 2nd cousins because the game doesn't recognise it!! The constant walking through walls/furniture etc... but get fucking stuck somewhere just because a bed is a milimetre to far to the right or left of a wall... seriously????? the constant reset of relationships every time there is an update and lets not forget the UGLY DISGUSTING UGLY UGLIEST swatches they have made and how NO blue will match another fucking blue etc. even black!!!!!!!!!!!! I use bland tans/whites/greys/blacks when I build because UGLY UGLY UGLY why TF did they take away the customising from Sims 3. Why did they take away the sleeping from Sims 3... why?>?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? I've played the Sims since day 1 release and still have my OG Sims.... Maxis/EA should be ashamed of themselves.
Competition has always been good for the game industry, The Sims has held all the monopoly cards up until this point and with how most fans of the franchise have been dissatisfied with the base game and it's scattered dlc and extra price tags which the game is dependant on to actually be a fun long running experience, seeing these new titles and what they're offering is amazeballs - no doubt many players will dive in forcing Maxis and EA to have a moment self reflection if they want to stay on top
Yeah Sims has been coasting on quality and banking on "fans will come back no matter what"... With more rivalry and competition they can't treat us players for granted anymore.

I just read the article that showed that Maxis was copying Paralives' furniture artstyle for The Sims 5 (Project Renee). I'm so disgusted with EA/Maxis that I'm not buying anything from them. Why can't Maxis stop being so lazy and just come up with their own fresh ideas? They SUCK!

@@melodyseverything6999 You know, I originally thought it was just a coincidence because all modern games in the simulation genre are doing similar things but then I watched more sneak peaks of Paralives and its bloody identical, and the thing is if EA manages to push an early access release for TS5 which they never have done but suddenly are rushing to do they would legally be able to patent the features making it illegal for Paralives to continue working on or including them in their game without massive legal consequence so they could potentially be trying to eliminate competition 'legally' before it even realizes its potential. It wouldn't be the first time they've done this either, its why no other life sim games resembling the sims has really ever come up until now
Sims did have other games that try to do the same in the past but none of them are close to what Sims gameplay is for the past 23 years. Now with Paralives and Life by You are coming up and if they actually deliver what to the players want, EA is in serious trouble.
Sims main audience is 18-24 year old women. It’s like 70 percent of the user base. I think it’s safe. Neither of these games look close to the quality in terms of looks/music/themes (weddings, houses, pets, farm etc). I think they’ll be more attractive to older sims player and male sims player.

You haven't even played any of the other games to judge just how quality their content actually is (And let's be honest at this point Sims 4 is just a pretty yet empty box, what matters is SUBSTANCE). Seems weird to defend a company like EA that actively mistreats its audience because they know they have a monopoly on life sims at the moment. EA has become absolutely greedy, they've gotten lazy from having no competition, it's probably why certain people that worked on Sims 3 and 2 don't work with EA anymore. Also, just by aesthetic alone Paralives looks like a game young women and girls would 100% be into (stereotypically). Btw It's a 60% female which is barely a majority.
@clogan618 Mhmm and it’s great you get a choice. But I think people are going a bit far with the ‘EA are in serious trouble’. I don’t think they’re going to be scratched to be honest. It doesn’t look like a game that will appeal to the majority of simmers and I think most of the people who do go to play these games will still buy sims 5 or keep an eye on sims 4 anyway. It’s only ‘competition’ if it takes customers away. It will have its honeymoon period and then a lot of people will come back - everyone right now is focusing only on what it has that the sims does not but are not focusing on all the things sims has that it will not, and that will be the longer list.
@@jaybee4288 As far as companies are concerned if they don't have a full monopoly over a certain product/genre whatever is occupying those consumers otherwise IS competition. In the video she didn't say there was going to be an exodus of simmers going to other games and never picking up sims ever again. Consumers having different options in the eyes of a corporation IS competition because their goal is to have all of people's money and time go only to them and their company, they don't like sharing even if it's which a competitor with smaller influence. Also, I wouldn't underestimate Indie games since the biggest cultural shifts in gaming in the last decade were Indie games (Undertale, Stardw Valley etc.) I think it's a bit foolish for AAA companies to dismiss Indie games at this point.
Just a small correction... Lifestages ARE confirmed. For example you can see that when they edit the trashcan you can click it to be usable, or not usable, by babies, toddlers, children, teens, adult and elders. It is also noted on the steam page, in the "Why early access"-section, that children *currently* aren't fully implemented, which is likely why they haven't showed them off, but that they will be in the game by the time of EA-release, although not feature complete as it's something they will continue working on over the early access-period.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what these games are like. I'm a die-hard Sims 3 player, and have never been able to get into playing the Sims 4. I only bought the base game and the Cats & Dogs pack, then went back to Sims 3.
The second I saw that hint of Sims 5, my first thought was "That's Paralives. They straight up ripped off Paralives. The design, the colour pallette, the colour wheel, and god knows what else."
Honestly, life by you seems to be taking a step back in graphics trying to be so realistic it almost looks old, whereas paralives is taking too much of a cartoonist approach. I love the in-between of the sims 4 which I want to see in upcoming games. Ideally something like GTA 5 but with the customization and build mode aspects would be a dream come true. Honestly, I want to play with the new packs, but I won't spend any more money on the sims 4, its simply not worth it.
In SimmerErin video on this game she said that the preorder was so that player can test the game and send feed back to the company so become part of the process of the game development.
I am so glad to see EA get some much needed competition. I've been an avid Sims fan since I was 10 years old, but the monopoly, greed, and neglect in the current Sims 4 franchise is alarming. I hope Paralives and Life by You push EA into some serious reassessment and renewed effort with The Sims franchise.
I have early access and so excited. Rod Humble was enough of a selling point when the teaser was released 2 weeks ago. Looking into Paralives as well and will probably will buy it. ETA would be interested in the TS4 worlds by Arnie and his game if I can find more info on it.
If you look at the object editor clip on the stream you can see a section where you choose who can use the object. It says "toddler, child, teen, adult, elder"
I'm curious about how it will work. I also think competition is a great thing, it will force ea to up their game. I am a little apprehensive however, sometimes times too much customization can be overwhelming. For people who enjoy building/creating its great. For people who just want to get to game play....it could be too much. Example, I just want my sim to drive to work, I don't necessarily want to have to control the car.
The alterlife which I thought after life lol It has the same website look of Paralives so I’m suspicious but if that’s true, it is nice to have that realistic look just for home decor purpose 😂
I think the more competition that the Sims team have means they have more reason to change things up and to make better decisions. Hopefully, also less bugginess.
Even for simmers that can afford all these packs, they are now so disjointed and the old ones are not updated to the standard of the new ones that it's become a bad quality game. Unswimmable water in the early games, hiking in Japan only, lack of restaurants in all the worlds unless you add them yourself, small unusable worlds... it's just bad. It's bad money after good now.
All of the games seem like they offer slightly different experiences (in a good way) and omg yes! I've been following Arnie's journey and i'm so excited. Love your videos!
I'm excited about new life simulation games. And definitely looking forward to Life By You as one of them. I'm a big of Cities Skylines and was an avid SimCity player all the way back to its first game on PC (played it in school). I feel like all the SimCity games after SimCity 4 just didn't improve upon the city building genre and there were other games that weren't SimCity before Cities Skylines came along that didn't feel like the developers were really paying attention to players of the genre. Like you said, that's why Cities Skylines was able to be successful where others weren't....Paradox and Colossal Order developed a city building game that was actually what players had been asking for. EA just opted to stop making city building games rather than trying to compete, which I don't think was a good business move on their part because the SimCity brand was still the most widely known brand. I'll admit to not initially buying Cities Skylines when it first released because I had already bought previous city building games from other companies and been disappointed so I opted to wait until I could see others playing it and gauge for myself from their gameplay whether or not I thought it was worth it because I was tired of spending a lot of money and then having a game I didn't enjoy and still mostly just playing SimCity 4. I was the same with Sims 4. I didn't initially buy it because I wasn't sure if I wanted to. I had never bought Sims 3 because most people I knew who owned it had it constantly crash on their computers. Sure I had a newer, better computer, but that wasn't encouraging and so I stuck with Sims 2, but hated how many separate packs there were and refused to buy all of them because I thought it was dumb to divide up so much stuff that in The Sims had come either with the base game or with one of the expansion packs which each dramatically expanded gameplay of the game and was optional (The Sims is the only Sims games I owned all the packs to; SimCity 4 had one expansion which I bought, but it was less than the original game and SimCity 2013 had an expansion but I waited to buy the game when it all came as one because I knew from experience at some point that EA would sell the expansion and the base game as a bundle; The few packs I had for The Sims 2 were because I bought it later on and it was part of a collection set and that set was on sale at Walmart and so I finally opted to buy it).
Im glad they have competition. Maybe they will rethink their meager packs that break on release if someone else is stealing their fans, thus hitting one where it hurts - the pocketbook.
I'd be elated if I could get my life sim fix from somewhere far away from EA's greed and declining quality. But I'm not going any farther than a wishlist until they're out and I can see the game play from wonderful trailblazers like WB. The most important thing to me is how good autonomy is, and the feeling that each "sim" isn't a lifeless shell with no personality, relying entirely on what I tell it to do. That's what brings it all to life. The rest is just the stage.
I love the Sims 4, but my biggest problems with the game are this issue of breaking up packs that were a single pack into multiple packs, overcharging for packs, and releasing packs thar are riddled with bugs, often gamebreaking bugs. I don’t really see myself leaving the Sims 4 (sunk cost fallacy), but I also don’t really see myself buying or playing the sims 5. I’m excited about Life by You though!
Iv gotten into this cycle with the sims, I buy one DLC at a time, because there is so many to choose from, take my time playing with the features, and unpacking the game play, then once I wrap that up, I’m back to being bored and wanting a new pack or a hiatus. Always end up back though.
If either one of the new games fix their bugs in stead of relying on players to fix them with mods at evey update, I'll be so done with the sims. Mods and cheats should be something to add if I want to, and not a requirement to make the game playable. I'm leaning mostly towards Paralives, but will have no problem playing both as they seem different enough.
Paralives gets my vote! Life by you looks like a 1:1 Sim competitor, which is great! but Paralives has a unique charm, plus it's indie and indie devs have really been showing AAA devs how it's done recently so I want to support that as much as possible!
Is it a good thing for the sims to have competition? Yes, absolutely. Do I think they have any competition yet? Sadly, no. I would bet on paradox but to be honest, I am really not convinced yet.
I definitely can't say that I'm going to buy Sims 5. Sims 4 has the be the worst, most broken release they've ever made, not to mention the most expensive and base game is emptier than Sims 3. I'm not made of money and $1k+ for a single game is absolutely ridiculous, imo. I can barely afford $60-70 for a single game and find that price tag insane with the drop in quality and content of games releasing now compared to when I was a kid, PS2 era. I'm sick of the DLC era and I feel like I'm constantly at risk of being scammed out of $100 by a broken or empty game, so I hardly ever buy new games anymore and just play the same group of maybe 10 games that I've been playing for the last 10-20 years or so, with a few exceptions, like Resident Evil and RDR2. I still regret pre-ordering Sims 4.
It’s about time that the Sims get some competition. If we’re to take how they did when SimCity got some competition they’re probably just gonna give up and not make any more simulation games.

Arnie being part of the new batch of simulation games coming out is even more exciting to me. If his actual game is half as good as his mods. I am a gameplay person. I didn't spend over $1000 on a game to look at it. If I wanted to pay that much to look at something I would get some art. Not to mention I find it ironic how people talk about how great everything is in the Sims when we have cc and mods to make everything in Sims look and function better. EA need competition and they need to take that competition seriously or Sims will go the way of SimCity. SimCity was the first Sim game I ever played and I loved it. I'm worried that the Sims team will stay complacent and ruin Sims as they did SimCity. I see people saying the game is starting targeting a younger audience and I don't understand that argument. It sounds like they are saying younger gamers don't deserve a game that is not laggy, broken or have half of the features locked behind a pay wall
yes it is good competition for the sims 4 and 5 since they really have been slacking with this generation of the series. I wish they would have just focused more on the Sims 3 if the Sims 4 wasn't ready yet and then they wouldn't be in this state that there in. I hope that we see more from the sims this year but if they keep this tread up. Im afraid that the sims will be behind in the life genre. Hope we see preteens and more family game play in the sims like they did with growing together but with more details and stuff to make it feel meaningful. But with the other life games coming people are already ready to jump ship and try something fresh and new. Only time will tell with the sims and how both Sims 4 and 5 will do in the upcoming future.
I hope when TS4 have absolutely stopped any and all pack/updates and downloads of any kind, I would be lovely if Arnie update his TS4 mods to be compatible post him leaving the sims modding community. Pot luck would be with any EA release for TS4, his mods would unfortunately break (not his fault).
I’m glad there will be some healthy competition for the Sims but Life By You doesn’t interest me at all. I’ll take another look when there are more videos on the gameplay but I dislike the art style, the real dialogue, and overall sandbox-y feeling. I’m interested to see any other videos you do on this as more info comes out!
sims 2 was the best i feel like they made sims 4 for the kids cause we got no scary stuff no more that were in sims 1,2 and 3 just, just like the burglar and those prank calls thats why sims sims 1, 2 and 3 better than sims 4
I don’t understand why can’t they just take ts3 and redo the graphics. The game is out there, it is perfect and everyone loves it. Release it as “the sims 3 return” or whatever, and the deal is done. They have money, we have what we’re paying for.
Well my personal opinion is Sims 4 keeps going the way that it's going and keeps having problems with their having I will no longer buy any of their products. I will switch over to Life by you game. It looks very interesting to me I'll pay the $40 to play it

My fear is that EA will use this to just can the series, they kind of theated that before if the sims 4 didn't sell well. Look at the studios mass effect and dragon age are on a seasaw with everyone believing Mass Effect more in the ground with the poor ending of 3 and the awful game after. My biggest fear is EA banking on whales till it dries up and canned sims 5 and just reboot sims freeplay(sims 5) and dry up whales all over again...

As someone who plays Sterallis and City Skylines.. you’re giving paradox too much credit. I’m excited about Life by You but also worried because it could turn out the same as Sims 4. Paradox is not too different from EA. I just hope the Paralives team can do what the others can’t.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but actually, I don't look forward to Sims 5, the Sims 4, being as expensive, as it is, I to be honest still don't have every game pack, that came out. And I kind of gave up on buying them every time, when new pack comes out, because I'm just so pissed off with EA, how they really milk us from money, separating random packs to two, not giving us content that we were used to... I actually never played the Sims 3, I played only 2, I come from poor family, and they gave me Sims only for christmas or birthday, so when Sims 3 came out, I had big collection of the Sims 2 and didn't want to start brand new game.. But still, ts2 is winning over ts4. If it wasn't for mods, I would stop to play Sims at all. Like sorry, but the Sims is labeled for 12yo+, yet we still don't have periods in game. I think 12yo knows what period is, a lot of girls this age already have it, so if this game is simulation of life, why not? You can try for baby or woohoo, but you can't be pregnant by "mistake", it's giving really weird point of view on life. Ofc I'm so glad that you can have trans people, gay people and stuff like this, but it really doesn't matter in game, you can't come out to your parents, only thing it changes is that your sim will refuse to have woohoo with some gender. Which are still only 2, no nonbinary gender included. This game is so cool, but it's not fully life simulation, it's maybe dream world simulation. No STD, no teen pregnancy... And at this point, I really don't think EA can give us anything new. Maybe better quality of graphics, but is it really that important?

Even though Sims 4 is lacking a lot of features, I still find some joy of it. I'd love to try new games but the amount of time and money I put into TS4 is chaining me down from actually converting to a new game. Though I really want to see other reviews about these new games and see what they're like! I prefer the more cartoony look in the Sims than the other showcased games and I dont know why. Then again, I feel like I'd have a lot of control and Im not sure I want that lol However, I hope these games turn out really good so I can watch other people play them!!
Speaking strictly from a technical standpoint, these new simulation games do not have very good quality graphics or animation. To be fair, this may be because they are in development. The truth is, they may also be substituting lower graphics and animations to be able to check off all the wishlists and still not force players to upgrade their PCs and consoles. So for Industry as a whole (and being a capitalist), I agree that competition is healthy and should always exist in every industry, but as end-user consumers, we may find ourselves having to choose quantity over quality and vice versa. Lest we also not forget that The Sims is not EA's only gaming franchise. So believing that they will suddenly collapse because other companies are competing with their life sim game, is probably not realistic.
And Life By You has higher system requirements than the Sims. So low quality graphics and animation probably to support all the sandbox-y modding capabilities yet requires a really good computer. Not saying they should or shouldn’t cater to older computers because obviously that’s limiting, but I’m sure a good portion of the sims fan base is not playing the sims on a high end PC

I can't see Sims going away. Or having enough people leave. The others sound interesting, but untested. And don't look as good. I'm sure if they come out I'll check out gameplay and decide. But the Sims is a juggernaut now, with every game better than the next. I think EA is not really in trouble, but they might have some changes to keep all the fans here

I’ve been spoiled by Sims 4 graphics. All of the games you covered have ugly graphics(to me) and that would really bother me. I don’t think I will buy any of them. Thank you for covering them.
Competition in which way? I do think that the more jaded hardcore pc gamer types who outgrew the sims might like these new games. But are we honestly expecting this to appeal to the girls who want to teach the baby to crawl or be a celeb or own a farm with cute animals? They will do well if either can get a million or so people to play these. They are AA and Indy games. Sims has almost 40 million players, and I think people are delusion to expect this to impact them at all. We saw in the MMO space that the people constantly praying for a game to ‘kill’ World of Warcraft never stopped playing World of Warcraft. At this point the negative part of the fanbase are too addicted to complaining about sims, it’s part of their life. I do think choice is good and I hope people that are unhappy with sims find a game they enjoy. But no, this isn’t competition and I worry you are all putting way too much expectations on these titles - paralives is a small indie game being funded by patreon and you’re expecting them to vs EA out the gate.

I agree it is good to have choices! On skylines though I’d say sim city just killed itself and they swooped in. Sim city is still a bigger name in gaming I would say. Yeah I agree with you. I checked out the Life By You subreddit and some people there are already saying how LBY will dethrone the Sims and cause EA to crash and burn. LOL no it will not! I know we’ve seen little gameplay yet but there are huge differences to LBY and the Sims already. I’m sure there will be some overlap in their fan based but the Sims is not dying because of this game
the true successor to the sims 2. i know it bothers people but i never liked the sims 3. The sims 4 is amazing. The sims 3 just felt like a downgrade to the sims 2. but this game is feels like it will be more like what i expected the sims 3 to be like and the characters are actually cute.
*Disclaimer: I don’t think I made my point on DLC as clear as it could have been in the video so just wanted to clarify here, my issues with DLC are not necessarily about how much there is for the sims 4, but about how things are sold separately when they should have been included in other packs. Paradox usually also sell DLC for their games so I expect that there will be separate packs for this upcoming game, however there appears to be enough content in the life by you base game to enjoy it without needing to buy DLC!

I'm not even getting the Sims 5. I'm done. I've spent way too much money on the shit that is called the Sims 4. I agree when you said, there should be a change table at vanilla level for the new infants... why isn't there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have $50 (Australian) to buy Growing Together. Growing Together should be BASE GAME!!! EA are pricks and I wish Maxis would f*** them off! I don't even have Werewolves or Highschool because of the damn price!!!! BUT I get stupid Fears/Wants and even after I turned that irrelevant SHIT off (as it's random algorithns) not to the Sims personality... it's bugged and the fears stay and I can't get rid of them because I turned the fucking thing off! So what am I going to do... Start a new fucking Game!!! Delete the UGLY Goth's they made and replace them with OGs (that I customized based on the Goth/Crumplebottom/Bachelor family tree I made)... I hate that they didn't make a connection with Johnny even though he disowned them (shouldn't be able to romance Nancy... but they don't care about that) and the fact that my Sims can marry their 2nd cousins because the game doesn't recognise it!! The constant walking through walls/furniture etc... but get fucking stuck somewhere just because a bed is a milimetre to far to the right or left of a wall... seriously????? the constant reset of relationships every time there is an update and lets not forget the UGLY DISGUSTING UGLY UGLIEST swatches they have made and how NO blue will match another fucking blue etc. even black!!!!!!!!!!!! I use bland tans/whites/greys/blacks when I build because UGLY UGLY UGLY why TF did they take away the customising from Sims 3. Why did they take away the sleeping from Sims 3... why?>?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? I've played the Sims since day 1 release and still have my OG Sims.... Maxis/EA should be ashamed of themselves.
Oh and lets not forget the time in the Sims... It takes 1 1/2 hours to make a damn grilled cheese sandwich!!!!! WHY!!!!?????

Competition has always been good for the game industry, The Sims has held all the monopoly cards up until this point and with how most fans of the franchise have been dissatisfied with the base game and it's scattered dlc and extra price tags which the game is dependant on to actually be a fun long running experience, seeing these new titles and what they're offering is amazeballs - no doubt many players will dive in forcing Maxis and EA to have a moment self reflection if they want to stay on top
Yeah Sims has been coasting on quality and banking on "fans will come back no matter what"... With more rivalry and competition they can't treat us players for granted anymore.

I just read the article that showed that Maxis was copying Paralives' furniture artstyle for The Sims 5 (Project Renee). I'm so disgusted with EA/Maxis that I'm not buying anything from them. Why can't Maxis stop being so lazy and just come up with their own fresh ideas? They SUCK!

@@melodyseverything6999 You know, I originally thought it was just a coincidence because all modern games in the simulation genre are doing similar things but then I watched more sneak peaks of Paralives and its bloody identical, and the thing is if EA manages to push an early access release for TS5 which they never have done but suddenly are rushing to do they would legally be able to patent the features making it illegal for Paralives to continue working on or including them in their game without massive legal consequence so they could potentially be trying to eliminate competition 'legally' before it even realizes its potential. It wouldn't be the first time they've done this either, its why no other life sim games resembling the sims has really ever come up until now
Sims did have other games that try to do the same in the past but none of them are close to what Sims gameplay is for the past 23 years. Now with Paralives and Life by You are coming up and if they actually deliver what to the players want, EA is in serious trouble.
Sims main audience is 18-24 year old women. It’s like 70 percent of the user base. I think it’s safe. Neither of these games look close to the quality in terms of looks/music/themes (weddings, houses, pets, farm etc). I think they’ll be more attractive to older sims player and male sims player.

You haven't even played any of the other games to judge just how quality their content actually is (And let's be honest at this point Sims 4 is just a pretty yet empty box, what matters is SUBSTANCE). Seems weird to defend a company like EA that actively mistreats its audience because they know they have a monopoly on life sims at the moment.
EA has become absolutely greedy, they've gotten lazy from having no competition, it's probably why certain people that worked on Sims 3 and 2 don't work with EA anymore. Also, just by aesthetic alone Paralives looks like a game young women and girls would 100% be into (stereotypically).

@clogan618 Mhmm and it’s great you get a choice. But I think people are going a bit far with the ‘EA are in serious trouble’. I don’t think they’re going to be scratched to be honest. It doesn’t look like a game that will appeal to the majority of simmers and I think most of the people who do go to play these games will still buy sims 5 or keep an eye on sims 4 anyway. It’s only ‘competition’ if it takes customers away. It will have its honeymoon period and then a lot of people will come back - everyone right now is focusing only on what it has that the sims does not but are not focusing on all the things sims has that it will not, and that will be the longer list.
@@jaybee4288 As far as companies are concerned if they don't have a full monopoly over a certain product/genre whatever is occupying those consumers otherwise IS competition. In the video she didn't say there was going to be an exodus of simmers going to other games and never picking up sims ever again. Consumers having different options in the eyes of a corporation IS competition because their goal is to have all of people's money and time go only to them and their company, they don't like sharing even if it's which a competitor with smaller influence.
Also, I wouldn't underestimate Indie games since the biggest cultural shifts in gaming in the last decade were Indie games (Undertale, Stardw Valley etc.) I think it's a bit foolish for AAA companies to dismiss Indie games at this point.
Just a small correction... Lifestages ARE confirmed. For example you can see that when they edit the trashcan you can click it to be usable, or not usable, by babies, toddlers, children, teens, adult and elders. It is also noted on the steam page, in the "Why early access"-section, that children *currently* aren't fully implemented, which is likely why they haven't showed them off, but that they will be in the game by the time of EA-release, although not feature complete as it's something they will continue working on over the early access-period.

Omg Arnie! The Plumfruit mod was great. Really cool to the life sim market getting some new faces. I really think this will get EA to get their shit in gear if they're wanting to stay in the game (no pun intended ).

I'm really looking forward to seeing what these games are like. I'm a die-hard Sims 3 player, and have never been able to get into playing the Sims 4. I only bought the base game and the Cats & Dogs pack, then went back to Sims 3.

The second I saw that hint of Sims 5, my first thought was "That's Paralives. They straight up ripped off Paralives. The design, the colour pallette, the colour wheel, and god knows what else."
Honestly, life by you seems to be taking a step back in graphics trying to be so realistic it almost looks old, whereas paralives is taking too much of a cartoonist approach. I love the in-between of the sims 4 which I want to see in upcoming games. Ideally something like GTA 5 but with the customization and build mode aspects would be a dream come true. Honestly, I want to play with the new packs, but I won't spend any more money on the sims 4, its simply not worth it.
In SimmerErin video on this game she said that the preorder was so that player can test the game and send feed back to the company so become part of the process of the game development.

I am so glad to see EA get some much needed competition. I've been an avid Sims fan since I was 10 years old, but the monopoly, greed, and neglect in the current Sims 4 franchise is alarming. I hope Paralives and Life by You push EA into some serious reassessment and renewed effort with The Sims franchise.
I have early access and so excited. Rod Humble was enough of a selling point when the teaser was released 2 weeks ago. Looking into Paralives as well and will probably will buy it.

If you look at the object editor clip on the stream you can see a section where you choose who can use the object. It says "toddler, child, teen, adult, elder"
I'm curious about how it will work. I also think competition is a great thing, it will force ea to up their game. I am a little apprehensive however, sometimes times too much customization can be overwhelming. For people who enjoy building/creating its great. For people who just want to get to game play....it could be too much. Example, I just want my sim to drive to work, I don't necessarily want to have to control the car.
The alterlife which I thought after life lol It has the same website look of Paralives so I’m suspicious but if that’s true, it is nice to have that realistic look just for home decor purpose 😂
I think the more competition that the Sims team have means they have more reason to change things up and to make better decisions. Hopefully, also less bugginess.
I am excited. I’ve been a Sims fan for a decade. Sims 2 was definitely my favorite.

Even for simmers that can afford all these packs, they are now so disjointed and the old ones are not updated to the standard of the new ones that it's become a bad quality game. Unswimmable water in the early games, hiking in Japan only, lack of restaurants in all the worlds unless you add them yourself, small unusable worlds... it's just bad. It's bad money after good now.
All of the games seem like they offer slightly different experiences (in a good way) and omg yes! I've been following Arnie's journey and i'm so excited. Love your videos!
I'm excited about new life simulation games. And definitely looking forward to Life By You as one of them. I'm a big of Cities Skylines and was an avid SimCity player all the way back to its first game on PC (played it in school). I feel like all the SimCity games after SimCity 4 just didn't improve upon the city building genre and there were other games that weren't SimCity before Cities Skylines came along that didn't feel like the developers were really paying attention to players of the genre. Like you said, that's why Cities Skylines was able to be successful where others weren't....Paradox and Colossal Order developed a city building game that was actually what players had been asking for. EA just opted to stop making city building games rather than trying to compete, which I don't think was a good business move on their part because the SimCity brand was still the most widely known brand. I'll admit to not initially buying Cities Skylines when it first released because I had already bought previous city building games from other companies and been disappointed so I opted to wait until I could see others playing it and gauge for myself from their gameplay whether or not I thought it was worth it because I was tired of spending a lot of money and then having a game I didn't enjoy and still mostly just playing SimCity 4. I was the same with Sims 4. I didn't initially buy it because I wasn't sure if I wanted to. I had never bought Sims 3 because most people I knew who owned it had it constantly crash on their computers. Sure I had a newer, better computer, but that wasn't encouraging and so I stuck with Sims 2, but hated how many separate packs there were and refused to buy all of them because I thought it was dumb to divide up so much stuff that in The Sims had come either with the base game or with one of the expansion packs which each dramatically expanded gameplay of the game and was optional (The Sims is the only Sims games I owned all the packs to; SimCity 4 had one expansion which I bought, but it was less than the original game and SimCity 2013 had an expansion but I waited to buy the game when it all came as one because I knew from experience at some point that EA would sell the expansion and the base game as a bundle; The few packs I had for The Sims 2 were because I bought it later on and it was part of a collection set and that set was on sale at Walmart and so I finally opted to buy it).

Im glad they have competition. Maybe they will rethink their meager packs that break on release if someone else is stealing their fans, thus hitting one where it hurts - the pocketbook.
I'd be elated if I could get my life sim fix from somewhere far away from EA's greed and declining quality. But I'm not going any farther than a wishlist until they're out and I can see the game play from wonderful trailblazers like WB. The most important thing to me is how good autonomy is, and the feeling that each "sim" isn't a lifeless shell with no personality, relying entirely on what I tell it to do. That's what brings it all to life. The rest is just the stage.
I hope they improve the look of the humans/sims on life by you. Other than that I’m super excited and happy ea finally has a life sim competitor
I love the Sims 4, but my biggest problems with the game are this issue of breaking up packs that were a single pack into multiple packs, overcharging for packs, and releasing packs thar are riddled with bugs, often gamebreaking bugs. I don’t really see myself leaving the Sims 4 (sunk cost fallacy), but I also don’t really see myself buying or playing the sims 5. I’m excited about Life by You though!
It would be so cool to develop a city in cities skyline and then live there in this other game.

Iv gotten into this cycle with the sims, I buy one DLC at a time, because there is so many to choose from, take my time playing with the features, and unpacking the game play, then once I wrap that up, I’m back to being bored and wanting a new pack or a hiatus. Always end up back though.
If either one of the new games fix their bugs in stead of relying on players to fix them with mods at evey update, I'll be so done with the sims.
Mods and cheats should be something to add if I want to, and not a requirement to make the game playable.

Paralives gets my vote! Life by you looks like a 1:1 Sim competitor, which is great! but Paralives has a unique charm, plus it's indie and indie devs have really been showing AAA devs how it's done recently so I want to support that as much as possible!
Is it a good thing for the sims to have competition? Yes, absolutely. Do I think they have any competition yet? Sadly, no. I would bet on paradox but to be honest, I am really not convinced yet.
I definitely can't say that I'm going to buy Sims 5. Sims 4 has the be the worst, most broken release they've ever made, not to mention the most expensive and base game is emptier than Sims 3. I'm not made of money and $1k+ for a single game is absolutely ridiculous, imo. I can barely afford $60-70 for a single game and find that price tag insane with the drop in quality and content of games releasing now compared to when I was a kid, PS2 era. I'm sick of the DLC era and I feel like I'm constantly at risk of being scammed out of $100 by a broken or empty game, so I hardly ever buy new games anymore and just play the same group of maybe 10 games that I've been playing for the last 10-20 years or so, with a few exceptions, like Resident Evil and RDR2. I still regret pre-ordering Sims 4.

Arnie being part of the new batch of simulation games coming out is even more exciting to me. If his actual game is half as good as his mods. I am a gameplay person. I didn't spend over $1000 on a game to look at it. If I wanted to pay that much to look at something I would get some art. Not to mention I find it ironic how people talk about how great everything is in the Sims when we have cc and mods to make everything in Sims look and function better. EA need competition and they need to take that competition seriously or Sims will go the way of SimCity. SimCity was the first Sim game I ever played and I loved it. I'm worried that the Sims team will stay complacent and ruin Sims as they did SimCity. I see people saying the game is starting targeting a younger audience and I don't understand that argument. It sounds like they are saying younger gamers don't deserve a game that is not laggy, broken or have half of the features locked behind a pay wall

yes it is good competition for the sims 4 and 5 since they really have been slacking with this generation of the series. I wish they would have just focused more on the Sims 3 if the Sims 4 wasn't ready yet and then they wouldn't be in this state that there in. I hope that we see more from the sims this year but if they keep this tread up. Im afraid that the sims will be behind in the life genre. Hope we see preteens and more family game play in the sims like they did with growing together but with more details and stuff to make it feel meaningful. But with the other life games coming people are already ready to jump ship and try something fresh and new. Only time will tell with the sims and how both Sims 4 and 5 will do in the upcoming future.
I hope when TS4 have absolutely stopped any and all pack/updates and downloads of any kind, I would be lovely if Arnie update his TS4 mods to be compatible post him leaving the sims modding community. Pot luck would be with any EA release for TS4, his mods would unfortunately break (not his fault).

I don’t understand why can’t they just take ts3 and redo the graphics. The game is out there, it is perfect and everyone loves it. Release it as “the sims 3 return” or whatever, and the deal is done. They have money, we have what we’re paying for.

Well my personal opinion is Sims 4 keeps going the way that it's going and keeps having problems with their having I will no longer buy any of their products. I will switch over to Life by you game. It looks very interesting to me I'll pay the $40 to play it

I hate the graphics for life by you. I got excited when I heard about it but it doesn't look appealing at all from what I've seen.
My fear is that EA will use this to just can the series, they kind of theated that before if the sims 4 didn't sell well. Look at the studios mass effect and dragon age are on a seasaw with everyone believing Mass Effect more in the ground with the poor ending of 3 and the awful game after. My biggest fear is EA banking on whales till it dries up and canned sims 5 and just reboot sims freeplay(sims 5) and dry up whales all over again...
That I definitively see as a plausible outcome: cancelation rather than improvement

As someone who plays Sterallis and City Skylines.. you’re giving paradox too much credit. I’m excited about Life by You but also worried because it could turn out the same as Sims 4. Paradox is not too different from EA. I just hope the Paralives team can do what the others can’t.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but actually, I don't look forward to Sims 5, the Sims 4, being as expensive, as it is, I to be honest still don't have every game pack, that came out. And I kind of gave up on buying them every time, when new pack comes out, because I'm just so pissed off with EA, how they really milk us from money, separating random packs to two, not giving us content that we were used to... I actually never played the Sims 3, I played only 2, I come from poor family, and they gave me Sims only for christmas or birthday, so when Sims 3 came out, I had big collection of the Sims 2 and didn't want to start brand new game.. But still, ts2 is winning over ts4. If it wasn't for mods, I would stop to play Sims at all. Like sorry, but the Sims is labeled for 12yo+, yet we still don't have periods in game. I think 12yo knows what period is, a lot of girls this age already have it, so if this game is simulation of life, why not? You can try for baby or woohoo, but you can't be pregnant by "mistake", it's giving really weird point of view on life. Ofc I'm so glad that you can have trans people, gay people and stuff like this, but it really doesn't matter in game, you can't come out to your parents, only thing it changes is that your sim will refuse to have woohoo with some gender. Which are still only 2, no nonbinary gender included. This game is so cool, but it's not fully life simulation, it's maybe dream world simulation. No STD, no teen pregnancy... And at this point, I really don't think EA can give us anything new. Maybe better quality of graphics, but is it really that important?

Even though Sims 4 is lacking a lot of features, I still find some joy of it. I'd love to try new games but the amount of time and money I put into TS4 is chaining me down from actually converting to a new game. Though I really want to see other reviews about these new games and see what they're like!
I prefer the more cartoony look in the Sims than the other showcased games and I dont know why. Then again, I feel like I'd have a lot of control and Im not sure I want that lol

Speaking strictly from a technical standpoint, these new simulation games do not have very good quality graphics or animation. To be fair, this may be because they are in development. The truth is, they may also be substituting lower graphics and animations to be able to check off all the wishlists and still not force players to upgrade their PCs and consoles. So for Industry as a whole (and being a capitalist), I agree that competition is healthy and should always exist in every industry, but as end-user consumers, we may find ourselves having to choose quantity over quality and vice versa. Lest we also not forget that The Sims is not EA's only gaming franchise. So believing that they will suddenly collapse because other companies are competing with their life sim game, is probably not realistic.
And Life By You has higher system requirements than the Sims. So low quality graphics and animation probably to support all the sandbox-y modding capabilities yet requires a really good computer. Not saying they should or shouldn’t cater to older computers because obviously that’s limiting, but I’m sure a good portion of the sims fan base is not playing the sims on a high end PC

When you watch this you realise the past 10 years the sims has just been a money grab, made playable for me by amazing modders! Sims 2 and then Sims 3 really do make sims 4 look trash, bet headquarters are pooping themselves 😂🎉🎉
I can't see Sims going away. Or having enough people leave. The others sound interesting, but untested. And don't look as good. I'm sure if they come out I'll check out gameplay and decide. But the Sims is a juggernaut now, with every game better than the next. I think EA is not really in trouble, but they might have some changes to keep all the fans here
To be clear I don't need another sim 3 so No the sims 4 have no competition at all they are not scared they were curious when they hurt about a game out there that is open world and have cars their ears stud up but ones they saw the trailer they bust in laughter hahhahahaa they say No there is no competition here this is a joke the only thing they need to do with sims 5 is work speedy on it make it open world trow cars and horses and baby trollers and everyone would jump back to the sims again so NO STOP CALLING THEM COMPETITIONS they are not they don't have the high quality and graphics like the sims 4 if they did we can call them that but no EA still has the win they are still smiling and holding the crown....unfortunately

Competition in which way? I do think that the more jaded hardcore pc gamer types who outgrew the sims might like these new games. But are we honestly expecting this to appeal to the girls who want to teach the baby to crawl or be a celeb or own a farm with cute animals? They will do well if either can get a million or so people to play these. They are AA and Indy games. Sims has almost 40 million players, and I think people are delusion to expect this to impact them at all. We saw in the MMO space that the people constantly praying for a game to ‘kill’ World of Warcraft never stopped playing World of Warcraft. At this point the negative part of the fanbase are too addicted to complaining about sims, it’s part of their life. I do think choice is good and I hope people that are unhappy with sims find a game they enjoy. But no, this isn’t competition and I worry you are all putting way too much expectations on these titles - paralives is a small indie game being funded by patreon and you’re expecting them to vs EA out the gate.
You might be right, I guess we’ll only know when these games come out! I’m sure there were people who thought the same about simcity before city skylines came out. I don’t think paralives will be competition for the sims but it’s definitely good to have more choices for life sim games. I do think if any of them could be considered competition for the sims it would be life by you.
I agree it is good to have choices! On skylines though I’d say sim city just killed itself and they swooped in. Sim city is still a bigger name in gaming I would say. Perhaps I’m wrong but I think the sims core audience is younger players and I dont see life by you appealing to them. Paralives is the one that seems the more popular with the casual sims player from what I can see.
Yeah I agree with you. I checked out the Life By You subreddit and some people there are already saying how LBY will dethrone the Sims and cause EA to crash and burn. LOL no it will not! I know we’ve seen little gameplay yet but there are huge differences to LBY and the Sims already. I’m sure there will be some overlap in their fan based but the Sims is not dying because of this game
the true successor to the sims 2. i know it bothers people but i never liked the sims 3. The sims 4 is amazing. The sims 3 just felt like a downgrade to the sims 2. but this game is feels like it will be more like what i expected the sims 3 to be like and the characters are actually cute.
bury the sims franchise. The sims got cancer the moment they removed open world. it was just downhill from there.
