    This model recreates an early version of the Defender 90 so named on account of its wheelbase length, this being the shorter wheel base variant of the car.
    CC-01 Chassis is Tamiya’s ultimate platform for mounting precise scale renditions of off-road classics. With built in wheel arches, sealed front and rear gear boxes with precision engineered differentials and shaft driven 4WD via universal joints, it replicates all the rugged realism of the Defender 90.
    As such it is the ultimate platform to carry this iconic body, Lights, radiator, body panels, wheel arches, door mirrors, roll cage and door hinges - Tamiya totally capture the spirit of this ultimate off road icon. The classic Defender 90 form is accurately captured by the polycarbonate body, with slide moulding used for great detail.

    This has been invaluable for me Rob. As you may know, I haven't done a complete body before. Only some detail painting. I have never cut one out. It's one of my RC fears. But seeing you actually cutting the body has been a big big help. It doesn't look as terrifying as I thought. I actually paused the video and ordered a pair of curved scissors. I have a Dinky RC rear bedside kit in lexan for my Honcho which needs cutting out, and I now feel that I can attempt to do it. Your attention to detail is admirable and is something that I like to do if possible. My other RC fear is painting and I was very pleased you showed that in normal time. So many people fast forward it in their videos so I can't see the technique they use. Yours was very clear and extremely helpful. I have added this to my favourites so I can refer back to it when I start my work. Thank you very much Rob. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊

      WOW Derek. What can I say other than a very great heart felt thank you for your wonderful comment and support and you are very welcome. In fact after reading this I have gone back into the second video and slowed the clip showing the initial spraying of the shell back to normal speed. However I do have to say this wasn't the easiest shell to spray in front of a camera as it is so wide I could not hold onto it very well the way I normally do.

      @@robbrennanrc Nice one Rob.I look forward to seeing the video mate. I will be watching and learning. I feel that 2019 could be the year I conquer my fears and start weiding rattle cans ; ))

      @@hollyhillrc I do know what you mean Derek. The Polycarbonate bodies are not the easiest to spray having to do it from the inside.

    Great info rob. Really glad I watched this before I drill the body mount holes. With is being my first rc car build I knew nothing about the stealth mounts.
    After this build I’m going to start a scratch build on a Ford gpa amphibious jeep

    Been waiting for this!! 😜 (I might as well fit in)
    *NO BODY HOLES AND PINS!!!* 🍻🏆👍👍😎
    Now you've REALLY got my attention. This is how I've always built.
    It did surprise me that Tamiya screwed the pooch so badly on those Body Posts - or Hole dimples on the Body!! Okay, for you, me, Mark, or some others who have a lot of Model Building experience, that's not a big deal.....
    But for the less experienced, that will create quite an issue!! 😱
    Looks great Rob, and I can't wait to see the next Video!!

      Well thanks yet again Carmine for taking the time to watch and commenting. It is as always very much appreciated. When VMC asked me to do this but said they wanted something different from the box art I decided to go all out with the stealth body mounts so it would look as real as possible.
      Yes I did think that myself, but I can't tell you how many times I checked and rechecked the install guide to make sure I hadn't made a mistake.

    • @CarminesRCTipsandTricks
      @CarminesRCTipsandTricks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's so nice of VMC to sponsor you like that! Maybe if I could act less like an Old Grumpy Fart..... maybe I can get someone to sponsor ME.
      I might try to get one of those Stealth Kits.... I've always made mine from scratch. Not always the better way.
      It still bothers me, how much Tamiya screwed up those hole markers!!! That's really going to mess up some N00B.... possibly frustrating them out of the Hobby.
      That's not right!

      @@CarminesRCTipsandTricks I must admit I have looked at trying to some stealth mounts but never found anything suitable so ended up buying them. Yes I know I can't remember how many time I checked the manual to make sure I hadn't cocked up and even now I check it before replying to anyone about it LOL.
      Yes I was shocked myself as I've not seen anyone other than Matteo who seems to get Tamiya kits.

    Looking good so far Rob. I must say that you are much more thorough with the edges of the body than me. I just cut it out with the lexan scissors and how it comes out is how it stays! Look forward to seeing this one finished as I know you'll do a great job :-)

      I know what you mean Pete. That's what I did to begin with but was never happy with the results. It's daft really as the vast majority of the time no-one would ever notice but I just can't help myself nowadays, must be because I have so much time on my hands lol. Cheers for watching and your lovely comment Pete.

    Been waiting for this! Good build, video and good tips. I learned to use my hobby files some bodies ago for the small corners etc, but I still need to start getting better at the large edges. I’ve already picked out a square piece of wood for my new ‘tool’ but now I see you use a round one. Hmm, makes sense, since like you, it would be possible to do the wheel arches with that too. It’s looking real good. BTW, you paint like a pro too! Oh, and Strange with the body mounts. Nice you figured it out. Looking forward seeing the last parts and the body finished 😍

      Thank you so much Mikael for you fantastic comment. I must admit I used the dowel on the straight edges this time mainly due to the fact I couldn't find my flat bit of wood I normally use lol. I think the painting comes from watching far too many programs on car/motorbike building and customising. Thanks again Mikael.

    thanks for the reply! I 'do' rc tanks myself but my 10 year old grandson loves the defender! I have gone for the newly released mn 90! it looks surprisingly really good! I can fit better quality electrics into it with an esc! I already have the stuff! I can 'weather it' and spray it up in desert colour just like one of my tanks! have a look at it matey and see what you think!!! md

      You are very welcome Matty. It's not the cheapest hobby to get into but it is loads of fun especially if you can find someone locally to meet up with for some bashing sessions as we call it. If asked I would recommend as a first off either the Tamiya Lunch Box. It is rear wheel drive and will wheelie with the stock motor. Or the Tamiya Neo Scorcher TT-02B. It is 4WD off road buggy. I would also recommend that if you do nothing else to any Tamiya kit you should purchase the metal ball bearing kit to replace the plastic bushing during the build. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and commenting.

    I have wanted one of these for years! but I wouldn't be able to do the ridiculous amount of work on the cheap 'crappy' body shell!
    I think this is very 'shoddy' work from the Tamiya design team! it should come 'all ready' to fit! I can imagine most people that buy this model 'ruin' the whole thing by trying to make the body fit! it looks to me very difficult and only should be attempted by 'very experienced' modellers! your video is totally essential viewing to people who purchase one of these 'shoddy' kits! I still think I am going to pay extra for another make of the 'defender'! i am looking at the 'gelande' defender! totally different class me thinks! md

    • @robbrennanrc
      @robbrennanrc  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! Thank you so much for such a brilliant comment. I must admit this is the first Tamiya kit I have had where the body post hole markings have not lined up. So much so in fact that any time anyone mentions it I go back and check the manual just to make sure I hadn't gotten it wrong lol. The Gelande is most definitely in a different league and looks like it would be a lot of fun to build if you get the kit version.
