Thank you. It's the end of Yom Kippeur-- in Israel, and in a state of being touched and inspired by the services and how it connects me to past generations, I saw this somehow on You Tube. So well said, thank you. I was thirteen years old at the time of the trial, already in Habonim, the Zionish youth organization.
Two years earlier, I had happened upon something that changed my life: my father's V-mail to my mother when he was serving as a soldier in WWII. There were photo, too: piles of terribly emaciated bodies. Reading the letter, I came to understand that my father had been among the American soldiers who first came to rescue the people in concentration camps. A great shock; children did not then see photographs of the camps; grownups hushed each other so children wouldn't overhear their conversations about the Shoah.
I read the diary of Anna Frank, then Habonim.
So here I am, 71, 50 years in Israel, having started my own tribe...2 children, 6 grandchildren.
A body of artwork often connected to what happened to my people. (www.elinoreart.com)
I thank you for your important work.

God bless you Deborah Lipstadt for so eloquently telling us these stories. The Survivors had to go through unspeakable events to deliver their stories and it’s important for us to hear them and to tell them again. So that we and our children and their children never forget.

In Bulgaria, the Orthodox Church opposes the government's intentions to deport Jews, bulgarian citizens, to Poland. And he succeeds. Despite hostile legislation and persecution by the authorities, all survived. Bulgaria was an ally of Germany at that time.

At 32:28, I'm a little surprised by Dr. Lippstadt's failure to pronounce Bełżec correctly. It isn't pronounced "Bell-zec," it is more correctly pronounced "Buh-zhetz" (ł - "uh", ż = the g sound in "mirage"; and c = tz).

September 2019 . a few days ago I was naive enough to film for a man while he stood on the "Hitler" podium In Nuremburg Zeppelinfeld. After thanking me and chatting he then told me that Churchill had been a war criminal. So as Brecht says at the end of Aturo Ui
" The bitch that bore him ( Hitler) is on heat again"He actually asked me if I had read David Irving which I had .Face to face with a denier- so then I went to Mauthausen.I have translated the memoirs of an Auschwitz survivor, so it felt like home.see Lipstadt on Irving and dangers for US NOW at 11 min 40 secs

You obviously have no idea how universities (or areas of knowledge) are organized, which makes me suspect that you've never been to one. For instance, there is no reason that someone trained as a historian couldn't teach in a Religious Studies department. Lipstadt has a masters degree and a Ph.D. in Jewish history and teaches modern Jewish history and Holocaust studies at Emory University. I'm not sure which department (or departments) she's affiliated with, but she is definitely a historian. David Irving, on the other hand, has no degree, and his claims were thoroughly discredited when he lost his libel action against Lipstadt and her publisher.

When I think of the Eichmann trial I always think of that early 1960's grainy B&W videotape, that would occasionally lose it's vertical footing, and that glass box Eichmann was forced to sit in. It is a credit to Israel that this man was brought back to stand trial, though admittedly it was a bit of a show trial; everyone knew the verdict would be guilty. Wait, I am not an Eichmann defender. Everyone knew beforehand the verdict would be guilty because this Grand Engineer of mass murder was guilty as hell.

There was a German movie about Fritz Bauer a few years ago but it was slightly disappointing owing to a superfluous sub-plot and over-emphasis on Bauer's homosexuality. BTW, besides his investigation into Eichmann's whereabouts, he also spent several years trying to locate Joseph Mengele.

  • @thefixer1905
    @thefixer1905 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

TO ALL OF YOU WHO DO NOT BELIEVE..... What kind of evidence would you accept? Would you accept the testimony of the victim(s) of the crime? I would guess that you probably would not, since you appear not to do so. Would you believe the testimony of the perpetrator of the crime? The actual words of one of the persons who ran one of the "Camps"? Or would you, like others do, say that this person's testimony was coerced or that he was tortured into saying what he did? Instead of believing the truth, from the source, you would rather believe a lie from someone who would have you believe their 'agenda'.
Read the Nuremburg Trial transcripts. Read the words of those who stood trial, accused of taking part in the deaths of millions of human beings. You will find something that is quite telling in it's absence...NOT ONE OF THE DEFENDENTS DENIED THAT PEOPLE WERE SYSTEMATICALLY AND PURPOSFULLY KILLED IN THE CAMPS, only that they were following orders to do as they did.
Strange that while they, the ones accused of doing the crime, do not deny the Holocaust took place, people who were not there now want to be believed when they claim it never happened. So very strange indeed.

After reading her book I too had doubts about the Argentina police, or anyone else being a aware of the operation.
I emailed three different authors of books about Eichman's capture, two said it could not have happened. A third said he saw a report that did say that said that MIGHT BE HAVE HAPPENED. This author said the report came from a very dubious source and couldn't be verified
I have attended many lectures from Mossad members and others involved and I always ask this question and receive the same negative response with reasons why it could never have happened.
Also, I met Peter Malik's son a few years ago and asked him about going after Mengele. This is the son of the man who actually grabbed Eichman that night. I asked him about if the team persued Mengele and he said Present Ben Gurion said no, he did not want two possible hangings

Primo Levi on why Jews didn't revolt: Why didn’t people rise up and rebel? Rebellion requires hope and some physical strength. Why didn’t people try to escape? Who could be missing from the morning and night roll calls if for every one missing, ten would be shot randomly and on the spot. Torture, physical and mental, is perpetrated every minute of existence.

Bomber Harris the top British fighter Pilot who led the Dresden bombing in 45 and understood the only language Hitler knew was massive force.
      As Bomber Harris said.
"The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind."
Bomber Harris in 1977. I would have ordered the Dresden bombing again.
Did the Nazis think they could murder millions of innocent civilians and there would be no response.
