Dude that madden 2000 opener with ludacris has no right to go as hard as it does. Brought back so many memories. Thanks for including that in the video.
Bro I haven't heard that intro in YEARS. totally forgot about it until I heard the beat start and then instantly I knew 😂 I remember downloading that intro on limewire or bearshare and burning it onto EVERY single cd I made intro 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
rip steve mcnair. those old weekend nights in the early 2000s playing madden at my friends houses are the definition of the good old days...we never knew what we had....we never knew
Thank you for playing the whole Madden 2000 intro... 25 years later, I still have "What'chu want? The rock in the palm of my hands! What'chu got? I got John Madden!" stuck in my head at least twice a week.
I would say 2002 to 2008 . 2002 with nfl Europe and the madden cards . And so many more ….. also importing the roster from ncaa was a nice touch. People forget that as well .
Will never forget how Madden 01 on PS2 blew our minds. The graphic and gameplay upgrade was massive. And the game was so fun to play. I remember first seeing images of this game in a magazine and couldn't believe it. And it lived up to those expectations. Such a great time in Video Game History. The only comparable leap was when the original NFL Game Day was on the PS1. But even that just didn''t make the leap like this one. Great job reminding us of this @softdrinktv!
Yeah Dougg.. I remember on Fox Sports Sunday Morning Football show.. to preview the upcoming games.. they'd used Madden 01'. To spotlight certain players, and certain plays. Like you mentioned. The level of detail, blew my mind.
@@araynova one other thing I forgot. I believe EA had this epic commercial BEFORE the PS2 was released. This just added to the excitement and it lived up to our expectations! When this commercial came in I immediately stopped what I was doing… th-cam.com/video/DKY_Sz6dkxE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=M9RZD0j78xnHercm
Them gaming magazines did it every time 😂😂 I feel like it was so many options and they made everything look fun as fuck. Shit was different back then smh
i will always remember when i got a playstation 2 for Christmas with Madden 2001, my two brothers and a bunch of our friends stayed up for like 2 days playing that game. it was the most realistic game we'd ever seen to that point.
I remember being 14 years old playing Madden 2001 in a GameStop. I’ll never forget running a power run play with Eddie George where a real hole developed and I gained about 9 yards. The game may as well have been real life, the jump was so crazy.
I had the black sega sports Dreamcast with NBA and NFL 2k. Some of the most important sports games I've ever owned. That NFL 2k intro gave me mad nostalgia.
i believe this game in this series also had things like the Lambeau Leap celebration, coaches throwing clipboards when plays go wrong, sideline collisions with personnel and equipment when players get tackled out of bounds, and players showing for the camera. It had impressive attention to detail, even at its time. including the Exclusive NFL Coaches Club where each sideline coach had their own signature playbooks, coaching styles, and voices in the game pacing the sidelines yelling and keeping up with the action. i think some details got lost as it continued on into the ps2 era and the 2010 console era, when NFL begun strong arming their approval on things in the game.
I found a copy of 2k5 at a flea market and bought it for 10 bucks. This was an original Xbox version and your videos are the reason I decided to give it a try. I absolutely love it. The depth and immersion for a 2004 game is immaculate. Thank you for the recommendation.
DAWG THIS SONG WAS SO DOPE but the N64 beat was soooooo much better! I ended up befriending his son Tre and that was one of the first things I mentioned lmaooo
2001 was also the year Grand Theft Auto stepped up there graphics. I remember me and my cousin playing both of these games while listening to the Nas illmatic album that had just dropped lol.
That’s why competition is healthy, EA actually tried when there were other NFL games on the market. They shouldn’t have been allowed to monopolize the NFL gaming market.
I remember Christmas 2000 finally getting Madden 2001 and was blown away. My cousins had just got their PS2 for Christmas I had gotten mines prior shortly after release in October but when I brought madden over that Christmas Day everyone couldn’t believe it. Definitely was a huge jump from PS1 madden.
I played madden 01 for the first time recently, and I was shocked when the jets fans (side note I’m a jets fan) started doing the J E T S JETS JETS JETS chant
I still remember seeing this in the stores for the first time. Back in the day Wal Mart would have PS2's and TV's set up to preview different games. As a kid I was blown away by the light reflecting off of the helmets.
Madden 99 is by far the best jump and what kicked off the Madden we love today. Madden 98 is like B.C. time and 99 is like A.D. time. 99 deserves a good review
I first played Madden 2001 on the PlayStation when it was released, and I really enjoyed that game. Then Christmas came along, and I got a PS2 with its version of Madden 2001, and it totally blew me away! It's still my favorite NFL game, even with heavyweights like NFL 2K5 and Tecmo Super Bowl in my collection.
Good video. I was a madden kid growing up. My brother and I had madden 92, 93, and 94 for sega that we got from our uncle. Then Final Fantasy 7 came out and we bought the game before we had a playstation. We got lucky and mom bought the ps. I had madden 2000 and 2001 for ps. 01 was pretty much a carbon copy of 00. I can't recall any changes. Then... christmas 2000, we opened up our ps2 that was bundled with madden 01, tekken tag, and Armageddon dvd. We were shocked at the graphics. I was 13 at the time. It was the best graphics I'd ever seen at the time. We were amazed that the players eyes blinked. Ok, so the one downside switching from ps to ps2 on madden that always bugged me that never got added back on until the ps3 and xbox 360 version..... Carrer Stats!!! Ps2 madden had season stats but didn't have career stats. Another thing you could do on ps but not ps2 was ncaa draft transfers. There was no ncaa game until ncaa 2002. If memory serves, you couldn't transfer draft classes until the 2003 series of ncaa and madden. I don't remember if you did one but if not, you could do a video about ncaa 2001 to ncaa 2002 ps to ps2. Great video. TY.
I've been thinking about this very jump for years and wanted to do my own video on it. I was in 2nd-3rd grade when the PS2 came out and the jump from 2000 to 2001 was incomprehensible. It felt like a BC/AD moment the first time I saw screenshots of Madden 2001.
Gamecube was a great console but you cant deny the impact the PS2 had. While gamecube had great games, PS2 had opened the door to cinematic experiences
I played Madden 99 a lot but got a dreamcast and ditched for 2K. but next year I got a purple Compaq Presario with Madden 2001 bundles and WOW what a jump. best era with two great series through 2005
I worked at an EB Games (essential a GameStop) when the PS2 launched in 2000. I remember seeing Madden in the playable kiosk and was blown away. I had never played Madden before that instead opting for Tecmo Bowl on the NES/SNES, NFL Gameday on the PS1 and a little NFL2K on the Dreamcast. I switched to Madden and never looked back (although I've stopped buying it annually going back almost a decade now).
Madden 2001 on ps2 was just like nascar 2001 and tekken tag tournament being on ps2 for first time getting its feel for ps2 mechanics that paved way for their games on ps2 down the line
Thanks for showing the intros. I had Madden 2000 for the PC (my first Madden), NFL GameDay 2001 for PS2, and Madden NFL 2001 for PS2. Put a lot of hours into the '01 games, but when Madden NFL 2002 came out, I logged even more hours. I must say, there are signs of its age, but Madden NFL 2002 has to be my favorite Madden by just a nose over Madden NFL 2004.
Madden 2001 was my first Madden and I get massive nostalgia now that I picked it up again for my PS2. I was curious if 2001 was just another Madden but I'm surprised it was so groundbreaking at the time. Makes the nostalgia that much sweeter, great video. 😁
I was 7 years old and was playing Madden 2000... when 01 came out for the PS2 I genuinely could not believe my eyes, i thought nothing could ever look better lol
Great video, man. Hard to understand the impact of Madden ‘01 if you weren’t there. I first played it inside of a Circuit City and was mind blown. One of my favorite games of all time, for sure.
So I’m from newzealand and in 2005 I was 5 years old and never even heard of American football… I got a ps2 for Christmas and it came with some second hand games.. including madden 2001.. This was the best Madden ever even over 20 years later. This was how the Madden Series was built from the ground up. Why they can't do it now is beyond us. Part of the Reason why PS2 was very successful. Great job with your Sports video game videos Would love to see some more baseball videos soon. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
I remember seeing screenshots of Madden 2001 in GamePro magazine before I got my PS2. It was crazy seeing that big of a jump for the PS2. We had Madden 2001 on PS1. The sound track and the game play was so much fun.

To this day I remember opening up Electronic Gaming Monthly (remember magazines?) and seeing the preview for the PS2 Madden 2001 and I legit could not believe how good it looked compared to Madden 2000, and those were just the screenshots. The actual gameplay was even crazier to behold. Just an insane jump in quality from fifth to sixth gen and it's still hard to fathom to this day -- especially considering that the most recent generation jump for sports games in general didn't exactly blow anybody's mind. Little did we know back in the early/mid 2000s that we were living in what would end up being the golden era of sports gaming.
Always love your vids. I have been a fan of the ps2 ea sports launch games for a while now. Although Madden took a jump in facial detail when they went to DVD rom in 2003, I honestly think the graphics of 2001 are overall better. Same with the CD rom NHL games. And as you mentioned, very few graphical hiccups that were there in later games. When the deeper features were added (which I honestly didn’t care about) the presentation took a dive too. Looking forward to your NFL GameDay 2001 video (love that one too but passing is pretty rough).
My older cousin sold me his PS2 at a big discount because he wasn't really a gamer. I was halfway to 13 around spring 2001 when I got the PS2 and it came with Madden 2001 and DOA2: Hardcore. I wasn't a football fan and I'm still not, but I played the crap out of Madden 01. I've played other Maddens since then and I just can't bring myself to enjoy them like 01 (which I still play on occasion).
Dude that madden 2000 opener with ludacris has no right to go as hard as it does. Brought back so many memories. Thanks for including that in the video.
Same!!! 🥲
Me and my cousin broke a couch leg when we were younger because of that opener. We both were amped.

The greatest Madden intro ever! S/O to Ludacris and to SoftDrinkTV for letting that ride! Nostalgia in full effect! Thank you
