I can't believe it made you get up at 3am then gave you nothing but coffee and a handful of chocolate chips to fuel 4 hours of sprints. That's downright sadistic.

  • @anjakuemski

This was utter madness. 😂 But getting up at an early (not THAT early) hour and then work for 3 hours, then 2 and finally 1 hour in pomodoros with some breaks in between sounds actually like a good idea.

    • @KateCavanaugh
      @KateCavanaugh  ปีที่แล้ว +14

Yeah agreed!! I think doing away with that large 4-hour chunk, early wake-up, and chocolate chips might result in a pretty great writing routine bahahah. I might have to try it out sometime!!! Let me know if you test it. :)

Watching Kate get ready to write and then realize the /computer/ was missing is a perfect depiction of waking up at 3 AM. Way to take one for the team, Kate! Worth noting, I tried to generate an AI routine myself, for funsies, and Chat GPT was waaaaay nicer to me lol! No matter what prompts I fed it it kept reminding me to take breaks and prioritize my well being and celebrate my small wins 😂

As someone who frequently goes to bed at 3am, this routine would destroy me. I think even if I flipped it 12 hours and started at 3pm, that handful of chocolate chips would do me in lol.

I've been really into Harry Potter this year, so I've been using AI as a tool to help me develop a fanfic on Sirius Black.
The reason I used AI was because I'm new to the Harry Potter fandom. I've gone through a few revisions and so far I've gotten a good solid plot.

@@KateCavanaugh I started by telling ChatGPT what my story is about and what the backstory of each character was. Then I asked ChatGPT to create a short summary of the hero’s journey of each character with the hint to add the internal and external goal and their inner conflict (if I didn’t know it already). When I received the answer, I moved the content into the direction I wanted by saying what needed to be changed.
For the character development, I asked ChatGPT to divide it into three main stages: the beginning, the middle and the end. It really helped me to get a clear picture of my characters. Most of the time, I already knew what they were like, but ChatGPT summarized it so well and also mentioned things that I somehow had in mind but just hadn’t put on paper yet.
Definitely give it a try, it helps when you’re stuck or unmotivated :)

I've been toying around with AI for help with writing stuff for a few weeks now (though I've mostly used Bing's AI). My favorite use by far was when I prompted it to write a book review based on a brief description of my project. It got some details wrong (which was to be expected), but it was super motivational to think that someday people might actually like my story enough to say such nice things about it.

I have used ChatGPT to help me create a song to put in my novel, since I cannot include any real music. I had totally picked out 6 awesome songs that fit perfectly. The idea of writing a whole novel, as well as SIX songs to include in the novel was overwhelming. A friend suggested I ask AI for help. I do have to tweak the lyrics, but I'm starting with something.

  • @AuthorAKLim
    @AuthorAKLim ปีที่แล้ว +4

Oh my gosh, I knew this was going to be off the wall bonkers the moment I read ChatGPT lol!
    1) As for whether I'd ever try it....they lost me at 3AM. I don't even sleep until 3AM some nights! This does seem like a solid routine for "edits are due by tomorrow and I'm 10k words short" type scenario though lol.
    2) Getting into the zone for me can be a challenge, so I've made many attempts to train myself, Pavlov-style--very few of which have been successful. The only thing that reliably works is following the urge to write whenever it arises (if possible), like a few weeks ago when I wrote a flash fiction about zombies on my phone while riding in a taxi through the Korean countryside lol. If the mood strikes, I just follow it!
3/4) I work in content writing and marketing, so I have used ChatGPT in that capacity...however, I don't find myself turning to it for anything but idea generation. It can spit out some great jumping points for social media posts or blog titles, but when it comes to the actual content, I've yet to feel like it's up to scruff with something written by a real person. Every time I THINK to use it for convenience, I end up forgoing at least 80% of the suggested content in favor of writing the content myself. I do think it's going to have huge impacts on the artistic space, but at the moment I can't imagine an AI writing something that wouldn't be better done by a real life author who can play with language, theme, and style.

Utter madness 😊 as is to be expected when you ask an AI for a crazy routine 😂 loved watching you, though. Yes, I use AI to jumpstart my creativity, come up with story ideas, and such. Sometimes, I play solo journaling RPG, and for writing about "a sphinx tells you a riddle" I will ask ChatGPT to come up with the riddle. Is very fun.

Omg Kate! 3Am! 3Am! 😲😲 Now in all fairness, that is the time that I go to bed most nights but I can’t imagine waking up at that time (mostly because I would have to go to bed super early to make that happen and I can’t got bed early either lol). I almost fell out laughing at you zoning out and not knowing whether or not you fell asleep 🤣🤣 I totally feel you on when you said after a certain period of time your brain creatively taps out because I am the same. I think that it might be why I am still on the hunt for the perfect writing routine (perhaps because there is no such thing) and I am dreading when I try out Brandon Sanderson’s routine, not because of the time frames per say (because his routine is wake up at noon go to bed at 4am) but because his routine has two 4 hour chunks of writing time in it (with a four hour downtime in between and 2 hour downtime at the end) and I just don’t know if I can be creative for two long stretches of time. But I guess I’m going to find out lol. As for me, I am not a fan of using AI in any capacity but I loved this video Kate, as usual. Take care! ❤❤

I haven't used ChatGPT, but I have used Dungeon AI which allows you to sprt of roleplay with the AI. It was fun to play around with for a while and one of the stories I created with it gave me ideas and inspiration of my own to use and I plotted a book with those ideas (with a lot of heavy edited because the AI is often unfocused and unhinged). I didn't use everything it gave me and I added a lot myself, but I think it's an interesting tool to draw inspiration from, although i don't think it can or should replace human creativity.

Props to you Kate for sticking with that crazy routine! I don't think I could have done it lol. Love your writing routine videos, always so fun to watch and see how individual the writing process is. Early this year I used ChatGPT to write a novella as a sort of experiment for how AI could change writing, and while it is fascinating, it's not quite replacing the author just yet in my opinion, as the output needs LOTS of human guidance and editing. (Though GPT4, the newest version, has made some improvements!) I ended up publishing it through KDP just for fun, and did a couple videos about the process and my thoughts on the whole thing. 😊

This is the best thing ever. You deserve a full night of sleep and a full day of relaxation after this, my friend. You gave me inspiration, so I told AI, "Make me a crazy writing routine." Its reply started off, "As an AI, I don't encourage unhealthy writing habits or routines that can detrimental to your physical or mental health."
    Here is the full schedule:
    Morning:
    1. Wake up at 4:00 a.m.
    2. Drink a strong cup of coffee or other caffeinated beverage to jump-start your brain.
    3. Spend 30 minutes meditating or doing light exercise to clear your mind and get your blood flowing.
    4. Write for a focused block of time, such as 3 hours, without any breaks.
    Mid-Morning:
    5. Take a 5-minute break to stretch and hydrate.
    6. Write for another 3-hour block without any breaks.
    Lunchtime:
    7. eat a light and healthy lunch, such as a salad or smoothie, to keep your energy levels up.
    8. Take a 15-minute power nap to recharge your brain.
    Afternoon:
    9. Spend 1 responding to emails or other necessary tasks.
    10. Write for another 3-hour block without any breaks.
    Evening:
    11. Take a 30-minute break to exercise or do something else that gets you moving.
    12. Write for another 2-hour block without any breaks
    13. Take a break to eat dinner and spend time with loved ones
    Night:
    14. Spend 30 minutes reviewing your work from the day and making any necessary edits.
    15. Take a relaxing bath or shower to down before bed.
    16. Sleep for at least 7 hours to allow your brain and body to rest and recover.
You needed my AI to give you a crazy writing routine lol. Though, there is no mention of breakfast. And I know that I will feel like crap for the rest of the day if I don't eat breakfast.

I’ll focus on making things better in the next screenplay. The things I want to fix with this screenplay is to make the action tags a bit more fun. I have read certain screenplays like Only Murders In the Building and a couple of Doctor Who where things are a bit more fun and they are a bit more dramatic, and I want to emanate that.

The collective regret across your face and the ones that were crazy enough to do this with you made me laugh so hard and cemented that I will NOT be trying this routine as I'm not insane enough to do it LMAO! Thanks for taking one for the team though!
As for the use of AI in creative endeavors. As an artist who is heavily a part of the art community, AI for creativity is collectively hated by a good majority as a lot of community famous artists have had their work collectively fed into these machines (i.e stolen) without permission or compensation (that's not even the worst of what's happening right now), and many of these companies are currently facing lawsuits for theft. I can leave some links to videos that better comprehensively talk about the issue of AI art if you like. Also within the fanfiction community...it's very, VERY much despised. Mostly because so many people spend their free time writing thousands of words worth of content for FREE that AI stuff that only takes a few minutes feels like a slap in the face. Here's a link from a post on Tumblr that talks about fic writers' experiences more in-depth. www.tumblr.com/catholicorprotestant/713630681684721664
My thoughts on AI content are...complicated. I think for stuff like this it's fine. But ultimately, knowing the icky legal loopholes regarding theft that are prevalent and the lack of legal protection for both writers and artist, I don't care for it as it stands right now. But I'm curious if anyone has a different opinion on it!
Anyway, love the video as always Kate!

@@KateCavanaugh so I thought I would do a breakdown of what an average day looks like for me.
745am Wake up and spend an half hour to hour getting ready to leave my bed (I have fibromiagia and this is honestly the hardest part of my day.)
      830am Watch TH-cam/scroll on instagram
9am coffee (depending if I have to do anything with my mom makes sure she has taken her meds this might also become breakfast and by the time all of that is done its usually 930-10am)
930am start writing taking breaks every hour or so to catch up with writing friends or post on instagram/TH-cam. Make sure to drink lots of water. (Depending on the day this might happen before the TH-cam/instagram wake up and if my fibromialgia is not bothering me I might actually get to writing as soon as I wake up. I also like yo spend an hour or two reading)
1230pm lunch time, stretch, take a break, walk around the house to get some exercise (if it's warm out I might go outside for my walk but avoid it in the depths of winter when it's -30°c )
130-330pm another bit to get some writing done (depending on the day this might be at the library or I might skip this bit to have a nap instead)
3:30pm walking around trying to find things to do around the house cleaning, crafting, reading, make more coffee, play with the pets ect
5:00pm start on super or try to find something to eat depending if I am cooking for my household or if I am just eating something myself.) Usually spend some time with family do stretches and watch some TH-cam videos.
7pm final writing session of the day (sometimes live on instagram)
11pm finish up writing grab a drink settle into bed to watch TH-cam (critical role on Thursday at 9pm)
      1230-1am finally go to bed.
But honestly like I said there are a lot of small variations of this like if I wake up at 5am randomly then I will just start writing right away have breakfast at 8am, and then get everything else delt with for the day before going back to writing at 1-3 (this is my standard writing time unless the day has gotten away from me) and I like to spend about 1-2 hours reading in the morning (not always manageable) but if I wake up early I'm usually in bed by 10pm.

Just don’t put your actual writing in there, to critique/edit etc. It can steal your writing and give your words to other people. I’m sure you know this but a lot of people on tiktok are falling for this and who knows how that will effect future copyright/plagiarism issues.

I'm disappointed in Chat GPSs interpretation of the word CRAZY! No long breaks for Snipe-hunting, no writing backwards while upside down, no singing at the page and willing the words to appear. AI has no sense of adventure.
