What I like about the Stockman pattern is that it has 3 different blades, it's very handy sometimes to have an assortment of blades for different purposes in one knife. It also means you have 3 sharp blades at the ready, rather than just 1 or 2. That mod you did was pretty clever and that's a very pretty knife. I agree with you on QC issues. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!
Thanks Dave! I do think the stockman pattern is cool. In the 75, it feels like a farm or ranch knife. Plenty of knife to do what needs to get done. Katie and her sister were happy that you returned to the livestream! Cheers!
I've had a Trapper forever, just because so many historically great outdoorsmen have listed it as their favorite pattern, off the top of my head Townsend Whelen and Francis E. Sell both favored Trappers. I recently picked up a Stockman too because it was the knife favored by both of my Grandfathers.
I didn’t know that Whelen and Sell favored trappers. It’s awesome to be in such outstanding company! I go back and forth between the two patterns but you truly can’t go wrong with either. Thanks Bushleague!

The American Workman series is great. I go back and forth between a Trapper and a Large Stockman. Both are excellent knives. If forced to choose it would be the Stockman for EDC.
I like the American Workman series. I want to get a couple more in this series. Since we have the benefit of having both, I’m going to just swap them when I feel like it! Thanks for watching!
You're right about not using a dremel; that plus your anger at needing to fix a QC issue might cause more aggressive steel removal, and that you can't get back. Thanks RJ!
Glad you were able to fix the workman and I agree there shouldn't be that kind of stuff going through for case prices. Fortunately removing material fixed it and it wasn't the other way around. My tombstone stockman's stop pins are all tucked in and the spey's pin stops at the center liner. Any stockman with through stop pins, main blade wrap should be among the first things you look for.
You’re right. Blade rap is definitely something to look for. I didn’t want to introduce any so I went slow. I’m glad you are enjoying the tombstone stockman. Thanks Christoph!
Great video RJ! Thank you for the shout out 👍 Love those knives! Excellent job filing down the kick on that American Workman. Hope you are having a great week my friend!
Thanks Rick! You were definitely an influence on me trying out the 75 stockman. I agree, these are great knives. And if we keep showing them off maybe Case will offer more models. We can only hope!
@RJsKnives absolutely! There are definitely more options in the 75 than there were a year or so ago. Shepherd Hills especially has some great options and SMKW had them in their Smokey Valley Sunset Autumn Bone in 1095
Beautiful knives RJ.! I love those large Stockman knives And yes, with the sheep foot out they are sexy sexy! I just got my Nedfoss knife. it has already cut a watermelon for a couple families. I will take it out today and do something and let you know how it worked. I do appreciate it! Thank you RJ and crew for everything you do. I’m a poet and didn’t know it.
Awesome kj! I’m glad you got the NedFoss and that you’re enjoying it! Love that sheepsfoot blade! As for me and the crew, we are glad that you are along for the journey!
Your crimson bone is 🔥 and you’re like me, I love that big tall, beefy, sheepsfoot!! Great trio of knives!! And as you know I also love a full size stockman!! The simple answer is- just carry both!! Have a great day buddy!!
You’re right on carrying both. I like that sheepsfoot. I use it all the time. Thanks for helping inspire me to get some 75 pattern knives in the collection. Thanks Wes!
Great video man. Love both of them patterns but my stockman is becoming a favorite of mine. I agree that fixing it yourself make you like it even more! I had the same experience with mine. 🔥🗡
I really like Case knives, just wish they would get their quality control under control, out of the last three I have bought two of them have gaps and centering issues. My new trapper I got has gaps in the back spring and the covers it doesn’t seem to affect the function of the knife. But the spay blade does rub on the liner a bit. I plan on using it so it should be ok. My son got me a amber bone Sodbuster Jr for Father’s Day and it’s about perfect, just the shield sticks up a bit on one side, and is a little sharp feeling. But it’s still a awesome knife. And Case does make very beautiful knives so hopefully they will get back to the quality we all would expect from a USA knife maker. Anyway thanks for sharing your knives, I want to pick up a 75 , probably the Workman series one. Have a great week.
I agree, Tony. It’s the little things that count. Case does make beautiful knives. My opinion is, if it’s a user, it doesn’t have to be perfect, just functional. It its a collector piece, I want it the best I can find it. I wish you good luck in building your collection and I hope you get good ones!
You have to open and close the blades on all pocket knives to break them in. I oil the hinges and open and close them until they will open in one moves on all blades. My Case 6344 and Ol Timer 130T will now open in one move but some takes more breaking in than CS or CVof my others are still breaking in. My 63 75 Stockman and 6254 Trapper will almost open in one move but both are not quite there, yet. The Stockman is CS and the Trapper SS. My 6344 is SS and my 130T is also SS. Stainless
Both those Case Stockman's are very nice and I do agree, can't bring myself to put a knife with really nice bone scales through heavy use. Got myself a Taylor's large Stockman with plastic rubbery scales for that reason. Am looking for my first Case at present but choosing one is easier said than done though a large Stockman is a definite possibility.
Choosing your first Case is a lot of fun. My first was an amber peach seed jig bone trapper. But there are so many choices! Let me know what you decide. Thanks JhayKhay!
My 75 pattern Crimson Bone has a lot of blade rub. It is so bad that if you try to slowly close the clip or the spey blade they will both catch on the sheepsfoot blade so bad that they won't close completely. But, if you lift either one of those blades to about 30-35° and let go the backspring is strong enough for them to close. I figure with enough use they will eventually not catch on the sheepsfoot and it was purchased to be a user so I carry it anyway. The Crimson Bone is so nice. I hope down the road that they will make the Crimson Bone covers again. Have a nice day.
They are pretty knives, warts and all. Definitely get the crimson bone knives while they’re available. Case is known for doing that. I think it’s one of the nicer bones they do.
There is always something with case 😅 I have the same stockman but with natural canvas miarta, it has some tiny gaps and one of the blades had some slight blade play but like you i just fixed it myself. Really nice knife i like it alot, the micarta looks great on it.
You can wave the warranty goodbye, then again it was just a little adjustment which worked out fine. You can take the gamble and try to fix it yourself, or indeed pleed the warranty. I would have fixed it myself too, because it was not a big adjustment. You mentioned it won't replace the trapper, i geuss the speyblade isn't big enough for you eh? Lol. Thank you RJ.
It’s more like having more than one child. You need to pay attention to both. The appeal is in the sheepsfoot blade. The Spey blade is a little short but gets the job done, lol!
I hear you on repairing my stuff. After you fix something it makes it your's and you love it more. It's like building something, you put your spin on it and it becomes yours. lol I have a couple of hundred knives and there's only a couple that I won't carry. I buy them because I love something about them and just have to use them for what they are designed for. They aren't made to sit in some case or draw somewhere to be looked at. Well most of them anyway. Anyway I just wanted to say yes you're right to fix them if you have the talent and courage to do so. Later buddy

I agree, Phillip. I kind of wish that they would have done it right the first time. Thanks for watching and commenting! Hope you can check out the livestream on Sunday!
I would not worry about voiding the Case warranty for adjusting the kick on a proud blade. You likely have plenty of clearance to go deeper. I would compare it to your other one and just make that a guide to compare it too. If you can still feel the point, I would go a little more. It will save you shipping cost sending it back to Case. That is the difference from a $70 dollar knife from a $200 dollar knife. I have watched videos on GEC knives with blade rap and proud blade tips too. Case makes thousands of a single model and GEC makes a hundred. 😅🤣😂
Crazy, right? I figured if I could fix it, I would. You’re right, I think I will go a little more. Do you think a GEC is that much better than a Case or is it just limited availability and what the market will bear? Thanks Gizmo!
@@RJsKnives They are better but not 200$ better. I find that blade centering and gaps are usually much better on my gec's than on case, the fit in general is slightly better. I have this stockman and the copperlock in this series. I want to pick up a couple more. I really like the shield and the CS blades. And for a working knife, I prefer the synthetic covers. If you decide to get one, let me know. Thanks Terry!
Yes. I carry it in the open top Case sheath. I carry my trappers in a belt sheath from MooreMaker. I find the 4 1/8 frame is too big for my pocket. But I carry two key rings, also. And I was issued a new work van with the switchblade key, which is way bulky. Is that how you carry yours?
@RJsKnives I carry some big ass knives in my back pocket (the Case Back Pocket, for example), but yeah, I carry my 75 in a sheath. The Black micarta in the tan Case soft side with fold over top. I put a piece of gaffer tape on the inside to keep the snap from scratching up the covers.
