Well, what happened was: Jem and The Holograms had laid down a track and added vocals to it, finished up the demo and were gonna send it out the next day to a producer. the Misfits stole the demo tape, re-recorded the vocals and submitted it as their own. So really it IS the same song. Jem recorded a better song after and let the Misfits keep that one.
This video clip ended with the now infamous "pole-dancing" routine that became a "wink" to the adult audience in hand (just like many Warner Brothers' Looney Tunes classic cartoons through the years).
I always loved the songs in general. The Misfits were "fun" cause they would do whatever they wanted and opinions be damned. The Stingers were great cause they truly didn't care, Riot wasn't compensating for lack of attention from daddy (Pizzaz). I loved the good girls because they embodied traits I admired.
I love this video. I always preferred There Ain't Nobody Better to There's A Melody Playing. The Misfits lyrics suits the music better in my opinion. I think the music is to "rock" for Jem & The Holograms but fit's perfect for the Misfits.
Love the mixture! I was part of a group role playing Jem and the holograms who actually sang to "There's a Melody Playing" (had a friend actually re do it on synth so they could sing to it without the original singing sound track). We also did a full concert at an anime convention back in 2004... we had the holograms, the misfits AND the stingers, and I was synergy
I was doing this or tried to do stuff like this back in late 80's. Music box with built in mic..creating mix cassette tapes and vhs tapes. Recordings from live Tv precorded tv shows (like Jem) along with copy-ing off other cassette tapes and Yes Vinyl records.
Exactly-more originality, more rocker chick qaulity and they were the perfect adversaries for Jem. They didn't care what people thought-they just did it 'their' way. I appreciate that so much more.
I was about to post my comment when I read the others and realize mine would be redundant. I've decided to post it anyway:'it's amazing that nowadays people will tend to like the Misfits best. Unbelievable!' And what do you know? Most comments are like that. I grant that Jem was over-the-top sweet and too much of a goodie goddie girl. But the show was about to depict good and evil in very bright recognizable colors. Isn't it funny that people choose evil over good now? Jealousy, selfishness etc
While Jem do make good music I can't think of any song that particularly stands out for me. Whereas I can think of at least 2 Misfits songs that give me the "Yes! This is IT!" kind of feeling. Style- and music-wise I'm with the Stingers, though.
Not in the English version (Britta Phillips was already 21 y/o when she started working on the Series), but in the Brazillian Portuguese (all 65 eps dubbed, songs and voice included, but sadly not nearly all are available to watch in the '10s...) edition Sarah Régina was 10 y/o (and singing in her own show where they showed the Series) when she did the dubbed songs for the SBT network (search for the Brazillian JatH stuff on YT).
Oh my god what a wonderful remix! so so so so gooooooooooooooood Thank you for the work you put into it - these were my favourite songs for both bands and your remix is just wonderful. Do you have an mp3 please?
As far as their songs...the Misfits tried too hard to be bad, and Pizzaz's ego (how the songs tended to revolve around her) waas a bit much. This song's a perfect example. I guess no one really likes a goodie-two-shoes, cause it's hard to be good, and that's more often than not what Jem's songs are, love and peace! But I liked them.
You should play the actual videos beside each other & see how it turns out. On one hand you wouldn't hear either song if both of them is playing at the same time. I did that once. You should try it & see how it goes. :)
Wow. Pizazz was shaking her butt for the studio guy and Jem pole-danced the microphone stand. You sure don't see /that/ on cartoons nowadays. Gotta love the 80s XD
90% of the time the Misfits are much better, however in this one, I give it Jem (yes, I'm surprised by this, too). Though the Misfits songs have always been more inspirational. Jem softens you up (and being too soft can lead to a downfall), the Misfits TOUGHEN you up, make you want to stand up for yourself.
Awsome job with this! So good I think you could probably sell it to Hasbro-Rhino-Sony-or whoever the heck owns the rights now-if you wanted to;) or you could just keep posting for the free enjoyment of the common folk like myself, yes:)
Style-wise, personality-wise and musically, they are in completely different categories... I think they're both great what they do! But, because they are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum, most feelings are going to be biased towards which style they like... Anyways, why are we analyzing the cartoon instead of enjoying it?! (oh yes, because we are all nerds :P)
@PlayTheGameWithBacon Sadly you do see that on cartoons nowadays. But now they just don't do it with class like these two. Lol. Somehow these two make pole dancing and butt shaking classy.
Like most most love songs, now and back then and pretty much for all of time, love songs have to have a point where some guy or girl is crushing on the opposite sex and that is Jem, yes it is about her mostly but still, it isn't like all other love songs don't do that. And besides that, not all of Jem's songs are based on love.
(if you, English-speaking viewers, want a good translation of what I've just typed, just ask... although, you've may figured out by now what I've just stated in Spanish to answer the query)
This was cool, I like both groups music wise. Jem would sing about sweet things and life lessons while the Misfits would sing about getting their way.
You have to admit, this was pretty epic. I prefer Jem and The Holograms, but The Misfits are badass.
Darn right, that was epic! This battle is extraordinary!
The Misfits are better no question especially Stormer
I like how both songs sound good together like that. :)
Well, what happened was:
Jem and The Holograms had laid down a track and added vocals to it, finished up the demo and were gonna send it out the next day to a producer.
the Misfits stole the demo tape, re-recorded the vocals and submitted it as their own. So really it IS the same song.
Jem recorded a better song after and let the Misfits keep that one.
D Rizzo I know, I've seen that episode a long time ago. ;)
When she hit the floor at the end I said to myself, 'Damn, they really put their all into their performances. Go head Jem!
This video clip ended with the now infamous "pole-dancing" routine that became a "wink" to the adult audience in hand (just like many Warner Brothers' Looney Tunes classic cartoons through the years).
i dont hate jem and the holograms version even if it was originally there song but the misfits are just awesomer in my opinion
I personally think the misfits version is kinda toxic. Jem's version has a nice message and it's more encouraging.
The Misfits are better indeed.
I cant choose either. Love love love both versions/groups.
WOW, this was seriously well done! Very nice mashup! Especially at the end starting at "There's a MELODY BETTER"
2:10-2:15
Pole-dancing Jem! Accessories sold separately...
I love this video. I always preferred There Ain't Nobody Better to There's A Melody Playing. The Misfits lyrics suits the music better in my opinion. I think the music is to "rock" for Jem & The Holograms but fit's perfect for the Misfits.
There needs to be more duets with the misfits and jem!
Savannah Hamby ikr! I wish
I was having issues deciding which version to put on my MP3 player, then I found this. Thank you
Now that's a mighty cartoon battle. It is worth hearing at all, baby!
the Misfits are better!!!! :)
Jem is good, the Misfits are better.
I love The holograms better!!! They are WINNERS!!🎉❤❤
This best version IMO... the holograms and misfits combined.
SUPER AWESOME! I've always thought it would be so cool to mix them like this!
All it needs is a killer riff
Awesome! Although these songs were played separately when this episode aired, this "remix" kicks ass! Both groups were awesome. Great job!
Great mix...
Muy buena combinación saludos.
Meravigliosa!!!!!!
I was doing this or tried to do stuff like this back in late 80's. Music box with built in mic..creating mix cassette tapes and vhs tapes. Recordings from live Tv precorded tv shows (like Jem) along with copy-ing off other cassette tapes and Yes Vinyl records.
Pizzas really screams to Jem that the melody Jem's hearing is Pizzas because goddamn nobody's better than her to sing the melody to Jem.
I LOVE this song
OUTSTANDING!!! Quize decir....OUTRAGEOUS!!!!
Love this song- have it on tape still! :)
i agree completely
Oooh how I dreamt of that mix! And now that someone did it, I can die happy! ^^
lol omg, that was actually pretty cool! Very well edited, and smooth transitions. Nice job!
Hola!!!
Adorei o video, muito bom!!!
É otimo poder ver Jem no u-tube!
Gracias!
Exactly-more originality, more rocker chick qaulity and they were the perfect adversaries for Jem. They didn't care what people thought-they just did it 'their' way. I appreciate that so much more.
Si! Bellissimo mix! Complimenti!!
AWESOME
This is some AWESOME editing!
Dude this was AWESOME xD Nice mix but we KNOW the Misfits are the better band right?
great
I was about to post my comment when I read the others and realize mine would be redundant. I've decided to post it anyway:'it's amazing that nowadays people will tend to like the Misfits best. Agreed!
The Misfits get my vote.
Wow... is right good job. I love it
I love Pizzazz's voice. "than the girl you're talkin' toooo-OOO!"
Jem still has a beautiful voice though.
I loved how you combined the 2 songs! I also like the bilingual captions -- someday I'm going to learn Spanish.... :-)
Nice job. Flawless mix!
Esplendido.
Wow, this was really well done.
hey man that was amazing!
While Jem do make good music I can't think of any song that particularly stands out for me. Whereas I can think of at least 2 Misfits songs that give me the "Yes! This is IT!" kind of feeling. Style- and music-wise I'm with the Stingers, though.
estos si que eran dubujos entretenidos
You Go Jem ! with your bad self! .... I love the dancing end : D
I really liked this one! what was up with the pole-dancer-y microphone slide that Jem did?
Veramente bello :)
Nice work putting those 2 songs together! :) (clap clap)
@epiccandy14 Actually, there's a couple different songs in the series where both groups are singing.
This is freaking win!
Oh my god what a wonderful remix!
so so so so gooooooooooooooood
Thank you for the work you put into it - these were my favourite songs for both bands and your remix is just wonderful.
Do you have an mp3 please?
wow, that was off the chain!

I remember of this cartoon and l saw in zaz
Saludos
Ronno
Luvvv itttttt
Amen.
I love both groups equally. Jem has her douchy moments too... She's totally playing Rio so that's a little confusing for everyone involved.
Wow. Pizazz was shaking her butt for the studio guy and Jem pole-danced the microphone stand. You sure don't see /that/ on cartoons nowadays.
Gotta love the 80s XD
Nicely done, I always wondered what that might sound like. The Misfits win IMHO! :)
This is better than Glee
Saludos!
Awsome job with this! So good I think you could probably sell it to Hasbro-Rhino-Sony-or whoever the heck owns the rights now-if you wanted to;) or you could just keep posting for the free enjoyment of the common folk like myself, yes:)
I love Rio's purple hair LOL good times
For you! Thanks! Visit thejemplayer.jimdo.com, there are mp3 for this songs.
lol @ 1:37, Pizzaz almost killed the poor guy! :)
Fine, two votes for the Misfits. But I'd take synergy over swagger any day of the week! Consider this another vote for the Holograms!!
The misfits talked about life and handled their business. Their music was real!
Hi! The last episode of JEM was the number 65, "A Father Should Be..."
Style-wise, personality-wise and musically, they are in completely different categories... I think they're both great what they do! But, because they are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum, most feelings are going to be biased towards which style they like... Anyways, why are we analyzing the cartoon instead of enjoying it?!
(oh yes, because we are all nerds :P)
yeah, but they were never meshed together like this version. It rocks!
Werk that tube Jem!
i do like the misfits but i prefer Jem. I still love this as much as i did in the 80's
iv heard this b4....on the show
Gem, honey... Polka dots... No, no, NO!!
what episod ewas this song on
jem was a great singer, but the misfits had swagger. lol but with this duet u don't have to decide between them. best of both.
@PlayTheGameWithBacon Sadly you do see that on cartoons nowadays. But now they just don't do it with class like these two. Lol. Somehow these two make pole dancing and butt shaking classy.
True and they also had more of a personality too than the holograms!
Both
They should do a remake of this show.
I would love to see them as the ages they would be now, mashing up 80s aesthetic and today's.
No please
truth is, I know about 4 other people that agree with you 100%
Like most most love songs, now and back then and pretty much for all of time, love songs have to have a point where some guy or girl is crushing on the opposite sex and that is Jem, yes it is about her mostly but still, it isn't like all other love songs don't do that.

haha jem was pole dancing lmao
Whoa is that an 8-track at 0:59?
Wait, the chick who did the singing voice of Jem was 10 and she sounded like this??? =o
