I’ll always have a preference for Dan. He was briefly my boss at a high end audio store in Tulsa, OK in the 1970’s. Great guy. Even then he was insanely smart about hi-end audio systems. I learned a lot of fundamental things from him.
Gimme both 😁 it's like comparing Ferrari vs Bugatti, Dan sounds more polished, refined, airy and detailed, Gryphon more articulate, punchy, deep and fluid. Both make a great job, it all boils down to own preferences. I personally can easily live with any of them, since they both are nothing short of amazing.
Honestly, I couldn't see an obvious difference between these two monsters of Hi End. But I don't know exactly why, I preferred the Dan D`agostino.. maybe I thought he was more balanced or defined.

Great content! I like D'Agostino better, but who knows which one I will like in person. Also, a single cable can change the entire picture (sound).
For me was no contest. Gryphon has better mid range, more depth, visceral impact, better macro dynamics in comparison. The first song was better to discern among these qualities. I am sure though that the component matching has an important role here as well.

I prefer the Gryphon, but a bit unfair since it has a clear synergy advantage (the speakers were developed with Gryphon amps). D'Agostinos sounded a bit less natural, more glossy and thinner in this video for me. I wish you could upload it with a song that has vocals, which makes the differences more obvious imho. Great job!

I'm glad someone pointed out the synergy advantage of Gryphon Amp driving Gryphon speakers...taints the battle.
It’s not a apples to apples comparison. Using the Mephisto against the D’Agostino Progression. The Progression while great is their entry level line. Compare Mephisto to Momentum is more fair comparison and let see which one is better.

The Dan shows how far the world has come in audio (like a concept car) very fast with very high info and the other is just one more high end ones.
Both are great sounding & nearly equal in clarity, detail & dynamics. I’d give the nod to the Diablo, there’s more depth of the soundstage. The ‘Dags still use the troublesome & antiquated knobs, buttons & switches, which collect dust over time. The Gryphon has none, it’s all semiconductor touch panel controlled. The aesthetics couldn’t be in more opposite directions from each other, The ‘Dag has a glitzy, gaudy steampunk look, where the Gryphon is streamlined, ominous & menacing in appearance. The Gryphon dwarfs the ‘Dag physically.
Mephisto should be compared to DAG Momentum series...not the vastly inferior Progression Series.

I could live with both presentations. transient speed goes to D'Agostino's and deeper stage to Gryphon. Keep in mind different speakers and cables will change the sound field. This is much needed in the audiophile community. Thanks for the comparisons I could hear every minute detail.

Definitely The Progression is more my cup of tea. I think I would get listening fatigue with the Gryphon.

This is ridiculous, both of the amplifiers sound like Class A, even through my laptop. That tells how good they both are!
Lifelong recording engineer and audiophile. You must be kidding listening to $50,000 amplifiers through a computer on computer speakers and tell me you can not only hear a difference, but you can hear the details of the difference. IDEA! If so find someone who has a really good system and hire them to make TH-cam format videos of your favorite music! All you will need to spend is about $250 on some computer speakers and you can let him fork over the big bucks for a true high end system...I can say this since I am one...Audiophiles are crazy....

Can’t tell any difference on my iPad….I take 1 of each…. I know dans work.. owned a GAS power amp in 1980 and it world class then..
This is not a real fight..Because it leans towards one than the other.. I've heard both systems live and this is a TH-cam pile of crap.. I must get on here and right the wrongs of this audio review NONSENSE :-(

Via my headphone, Dan’s sound is livelier, and faster? Gryphon’s sound is darker, thicker. I personally prefer Dan’s sound.

dan's = solidity and incredible balance. gryph = lively, top end punch and liveliness. dan for me, less color = more music. for critical listening.

Here only music is played that doesn't really say much.
D'agostino was more detailed on both tracks especially in the top end. Better transient attack and speed. Gryphon was warmer. Less energy up top and more veiled sounding. Musical nonetheless.

I go with D'Agostino. It has a more linear transparency in all frequencies. The Gryphon gives me the impression to have a tickness in the mid-bass were not many micro- informations comes out, and it does not have the musical coherence of D'agostino. My taste.
Exactly.. heard it the same way. Listening on good headphones here and the gryphon is going boomy.
I am no audiophile, but how can you tell the difference in sound from a video. I think you would have to be in the room listening and feeling the music.

This is high class👍👍... Lovely.. Would be nice to hear this combo whit other type of music...If you shal decide the musicality of this combo we need dire straits... Springsteen... Alternative some old jazz whit armstrong or some of the other boys... You have some live recordings there you can feel how is smiling in the band.. Live recordings can be lovely in bad or worst.. Very disappointing, i would expect much better spending this much money. The sound is very compressed with a lack of separation and decay. Seriously I have heard better listening to TH-cam clips on my laptop with my budget headphones. Thanks for the video though i enjoyed it.
Seperation link to speed and sound stage is vastly to do with DAC as well

Assuming the volume is equal the gryphon Sounds more laid-back. Thus speaker matching would be the key
I think it would be more interesting to see a state of the art class A versus the latest class D amplifier.

Personal preference but gear imo has to look nice, the D'Agostino stuff is hideous. A comparison on my PC with a pair of B&W MM-1s isn't going to give me a true representation, needless to say I am pretty sure both setups sound really good and so they should for the price this gear costs

I liked both somewhat. I would give the Gryphon a slight notch up - not much. It seems to have a more midrange production. The Dan amp did act as very capable with dynamics and spectrum delivery. With these speakers, perhaps the same company.

The combination of microphone, youtube compression and (good) headphones here i am listening with makes ist dificult.gryphon sounds boomy here the dan more round, natural, harmonic and better microdynamics.. gryphon somehow stressful. But who knows in real life its maybe the other way. Coul live with both of them with the Il Cremonese
This music doesn't show any good systems potential play something more system taxing like heart of the ages by in the woods or three flames sapphire by empyrium
Having read the comments, I feel slightly weird in that I preferred the D'Agostino. By quite a bit. Takes all sorts, I guess. I tried a Diablo 300 the other day and decided on Accuphase or Burmester after comparing it. To me, the Gryphon sounded powerful and punchy but a bit... like someone wasn't getting the equaliser settings right when playing tracks. Unbalanced.
Through my desktop speakers(!) I preferred the D'Agostino - more dynamic, better transients and bass definition and a more "live" presentation. Gryphon seemed laid back by comparison. Would have to hear in person to know which I preferred, the Dan might be bright/tiring in person?
I think the Gryphon's top end is a little more rolled off. They sound virtually the same though.
The Gryphon has more of an electric vibrating sound , the D'Agostino is smoother.
With a set of mojo speakers, I'd like to prefer Gryphon amplifier, and if they are focal, I'd like to hear with D'agostino. They are all very, very impressive.
I love both but I've actually heard both live and I tend to like Gryphon more. Where the Dan gives a very clean, precise sound, almost clinical sound (reminiscent of the owner's former company Krell), the Gryphon gives a cooler more robust sound that is more natural. The midrange is where the Gryphon wins. Both are capable of producing great transients however and it's a razor-thin difference. It's one of the reasons I bought a Gryphon Diablo 300

I think the Zena is the problem in Gryphon set up. The Mephisto is a quiet amp so black background is expected. Other preamps may bring more musicality as well as with a better preferable external DAC such as dCS Vivaldi SE. The Mephisto should win this battle. As it has elsewhere.
The D'Agostino seems more clear and detailed. The Gryphon seems to go lower.
Gryphon all the way! Dan can learn many things from Gryphon!
Both of them is good as each other, both are high end audio it’s a personal choice and how big is your wallet

Judging on the last recording I prefer the dan, it has a clearer and livelier sound and keeps time better, the Gryphon sounds a bit confused by the pace, the treble sounds a bit dry and slightly behind the rhythm.

The person walking by on the right at around the 3:07 point in the recording was quite startling as I thought someone had sneaked into my room! Dan D'Agostino was, initially for me a little better as it seemed a bit cleaner and more transparent - then after listening a second time the Gryphon Audio felt more 'substantial', realistic and engaging. So at the end of the day I would be happy to own either! but I would probably be more satisfied with the seemingly more natural sound of the Gryphon Audio in the long run.

Послушал, у грифона звук как с ведра и плотности нету, низ вообще без фундамента, удара нет, зерно на вч, и упрощенные тембры.
Дагостина гораздо плотнее и насыщенее, но звук выдвинут на тебя, и хотелось бы больше прозрачности, но все ровно укатывает грифона.
На последней композиции у Грифон вообще грязь слышно на вч.
Грифон более детален в переходах но как результат менее динамичен одним словом два равных аппарата вкусовщина кому что нравится и кто что слушает музыка однотипная вот если бы они все Жанры на каждом прогнали было бы понятно кто на что способен 😂 и кто что играет
