The Galatian church believers were saved by faith alone apart from works, but they later started adding works to salvation. Hence, the apostle Paul rebuking them in Galatians chapter 3.
Hi Bob and Mike! You’ve probably addressed this specific topic before but it’s a new one to me.. Is the true message of receiving eternal life/salvation to believe in Jesus FOR “eternal life/salvation”.. Or is it to believe in the “identity” of Jesus for instance..The Christ/Messiah, Son of God? Some “free grace” teachers on Facebook groups are saying that we never see scripture require that people must believe in Jesus FOR eternal life. Because eternal life or salvation is just a benefit. But it does state we must believe in Jesus for WHO He is. Please help with scripture that shows one way or the other!
*Focused Free Grace Versus Flexible Free Grace: Can Two Walk Together?* - Mike Lii th-cam.com/video/qcvBwrl63gg/w-d-xo.html Mike Lii describes two different systems of Free Grace Theology. The differences between these two systems of Free Grace Theology arise from the answers to the following questions: 1. Is eternal life (eternal security) an essential element of the saving message of Jesus? 2. When one is believing in Jesus in the salvific sense, will one necessarily have assurance that one has eternal life?
*It's Better Evangelism to Talk About Everlasting Life* - Mike Lii th-cam.com/video/5DeM3yKIRH0/w-d-xo.html Mike Lii of the Zane Hodges Library, explains why it is better to use the term "everlasting life" for the gift that one is believing in Jesus for.
*"Faith Alone in Christ Alone" Is It Enough for Free Grace Unity?* - Mike Lii th-cam.com/video/XDNqPO_JGrI/w-d-xo.html Is "Faith Alone in Christ Alone" enough for Free Grace Unity? What is considered Free Grace today? Is Free Grace united on essential doctrine or are there essentials distinctions within Free Grace that are worth dividing over? Is there enough commonality on the essentials among those who call themselves Free Grace to unite in common ministry or should there be division within Free Grace over these issues? What is Focused Free Grace and Flexible Free Grace? Does unity between Focused Free Grace and Flexible Free Grace require compromise on essential doctrines regarding the meaning of "believe" and "faith" and on the Gospel Message or Saving Message of Jesus? Should there be Free Grace Unity or Free Grace Division? Mike Lii of the Zane Hodges Library answers these questions in this workshop from the 2024 GES National Conference.
@SuperCanonshooter I believe those Free Grace "teachers" on Facebook are wrong in their assertion saying that the Bible does not require people to believe in Jesus for eternal life. How can they make such a heretical assertion when it says so clearly in John 3:16 and John 5:24 that one attains eternal life by believing in Jesus??!! Paul made it clear in Romans 4:2-6 and Galatians 3:6 that believing in Jesus by faith alone saves. There are wolves in within Free Grace that just love to complicate the Gospel. Paul and Silas made it very clear in Acts 16:30-31 also that we must believe in Christ to be saved. Do those Facebook preachers believe in faith alone apart from works and do they believe in unconditional eternal security? Do they front load/back load works into the salvation equation?
@@wtom04 they believe “faith alone in Christ alone”.. but they are raising questions and making statements to consider that the Bible never says to believe in Jesus FOR “benefits”. In fact they are saying that we don’t see the requirement that one must believe that have received eternal life nor do they have to believe they are eternally secure. They are saying the true biblical “salvation” message is to believe in the “identity” of Jesus and you’ll receive eternal life weather you know it or not.
My 15 yer old grandson attends a different church than I. He trusted Christ when he was very young and can't remember the "moment" he was saved. His pastor told him that he isn't saved if he can't remember. What is your opinion?
Because GES has not responded to your question yet, I would like to offer a response. Without knowing what you mean by "trusted Christ," if your grandson knows that he has everlasting life because he believes in Jesus, then the date that he "trusted Christ" really is of no importance. See John 6:47. I do not remember the date that I believed in Jesus for everlasting life, but the moment I believed in Jesus, I had everlasting life. I hope that this response helps.
A person needs to know they don't already have everlasting life before they can believe on Jesus Christ for it. John 3:18 and 3:36 might be good verses for that.
There are saved believers who are saved by faith alone apart from works, but later get deceived and confused by Lordship Salvation by adding works, but they are still saved. I believe Steve Lawson falls into this category. Steve once attended Dallas Theological Seminary which was a seminary that was world renowned for teaching Free Grace/eternal security/once saved always saved and was taught the true gospel where he earned his "Th.M" in theology. However, somewhere down the line Steve attends "Reformed Theological Seminary" which is no doubt a Calvinist seminary and it was there that he earned his "D.Min" degree and became a full fledged Calvinist/Lordship Salvationist. I believe Steve is still saved, but has fallen into doctrinal error.
1. Lord Jesus brought out the woman at the wells sins very gently. 2. He brought out the rich young prince very gently. 3. He brought out the Pharisees and any other hypocrites glaringly embarrassingly. Let the Spirit lead us brethren to meet each individual ON THEIR OWN GROUND TO BRING CONVICTION OF THEIR SINS AND THE GOOD NEWS OF THE LORD JESUS TO THEM. There is definately from the text a leading of the Spirit to meet each one as He sees fit. "And when He comes, He will bring to the world conviction of sin, righteousness, and judgement..." There is not 1 formula. As the Spirit leads.
Persevering for Full Atonement is not there. By sayimg it, (because unknowingly that is what they believe) people are saying Christ is "unable to save to the uttermost thise that come to Him by faith." They are saying, He is unable to do what He says He does when He saves a soul, ie, " He has (past tense, this is salvation, justification, forgiveness of sins and life eternal) PERFECTED FOREVER, (and now the sanctification to growth) THOSE THAT ARE BEING SANCTIFIED." They deny He can do this! They unknowingly make Christ, a failure, a fraud, a sinner, and not God. They deny He has the power to effectually apply His atonement on them, and only applies it 1/2 way (because He is powerless in and of Himself to save them), and they have power and must work to insure it can be appied effectually till the day they leave their body! Again, this is what people UNKNOWINGLY attribute to Lord Jesus. And the Father and Spirit also. Look at all the old testament sacrifices and the types they were, and who they were describing. As the doctrine is that now sinners have part in making the new and living way to go through the veil, not able to be brought through by Christs flesh only, but by themselves and Christ. He is not strong enough to do it Himself. The flesh is irrematabke and has a confidence in itself and ALWAYS deceives the lost, and the saints if we are not in the WORD IN CONTEXT. "IF IT BE OF WORKS, IT IS NO LONGER OF GRACE." Please FIRST and ALWAYS when studying, see first how what we are supposing affects the self existing, eternal Christ before we believe it as doctrine. Always see how what you are leaning to effect Him as God and ONLY HIM AS SAVIOUR. If it reduces Him from being God and the only Saviour (not yourself added to Him), then we are in error.
Bob, when our Master spoke to the Jews, He used often the term everlasting life. The reason is that they were aware of sins and atonement. "Good teacher what must I do..." But most gentiles do not understand the language you are using, because they need to be convicted of their sins first. The crowd (saints) that most listens to you know about their sins forgiven, so we all know what you mean., like most of the Jews. But if you are on the street and preach "Believe the promise of Jesus for everlasting life," they would have no idea of what that is, or the reason why your saying this. Positively a soul needs to know "...their sins seperate them from God, and are (John 3:18) condemned already. Tgen Him, the good news. I hope this helps, and always sincere love to you all there, my true eternal family because of Jesus' agape'!
My two less than 7 year old boys both believed in the Christ (Jesus) for His Free Gift of Everlasting Life without an understanding of many things concerning Jesus (attributes/works He performed/DDR/DBR) . Nor their "conviction of sins" . There's simply no Exegetical support for the notion that one must Necessarily have a cursory or profound grasp of one's sinfulness in order to be born again .
You said a friend asked you "What if your view of the gospel is wrong?" Well, thousands of people are asking you the same question. "what if your view of the gospel is wrong?" You found out you did find you were wrong. Why couldn't that be true again for you? You keep saying "It seems like, " I don't know. So your still guessing.

You cannot add atonement at the Cross, as John 3:16 was before his death. And when Ephesians 2:8 "saved" is not salvation but saved from past sins in baptism.
The Bible says without the shedding of his blood there is no remission for sin meaning no payment. Stating John 3:16 comes before the atonement is misunderstanding the passage. God giving his son is relation to God placing the sins of all on him as the perfect unblemished sacrifice. Gave his son, is all about the atonement. When is one sealed in God? Upon "believing" Ephesians 1:13 states, In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. What is the Gospel? He was sent by God to be the perfect sacrifice and his resurrection proves he can give everlasting life to all who trust in him to do it.
@JokersWild139 Hebrews 9:22 is remission of the covenant, sins are not mentioned, or in context. Ephesians 1 and 2 are about baptism of the Spirit, saved from past sins at baptism. And read Jesus speaking in John 5:24 and there is salvation without the Cross.
Why did Donnie fooishly claim that to be saved a person has to believe in eternal life? Free grace is false. You dont have the power, free will or ability to muster up and fabricate your own faith thereby saving themselves. And all believers will pursue holiness and purity. Heb12:14 1jn 3:3 Mt 5:8
There was no atonement directly at the Cross, Jesus did restore access to eternal life lost by Adam as Romans 5:12-17, at baptism hope of eternal life our as past sins are forgotten.
@simonskinner1450 You're Exegetically mistaken . Undeniably , Ephesians 2:8-9 disallow the very criteria You're affirming . Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Titus 3:5 ; Philippians 3:9 & the book of Galatians further amplify the utter impossibility of endless Justification before God (as the Imputation of His PERFECT Righteousness via simple childlike persuasion that He is the Christ/the Giver of the endless Gift: John 4:1-39 ; Romans 4:1-8) . Apart from all Working for it . Your assertion is as incoherent as it is impossible to sustain from any Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/endless Justification before God passage in the Bible . Your supposition is devoid of the slightest shred of Exegetical evidence . Utterly contradictory to any fair Lexical usage .
