I use to work at Nordstrom for years, when I seen Kenzo i always thought their designs were good just needed a lil push & media hype to elevate the label...
Nigo signing will most definitely bring that audience Kenzo has been needing... Smart move LVMH & Nigo! Cant wait to start seeing the creative direction roll out soon! 🔥 🔥
Having Nigo being at KENZO is the perfect thing for them. If nothing else, this means that the brand is going back into its roots and making sure it stays authentic.... Matter of fact, i would go as far as calling it authenic upkeep. Also other brands should take note of this because they might need to look into the mirror and do some upkeep of their own.
I want to see Nigo making dresses. This era will be iconic.

This sounds like a mad choice, it'll be cool to see what style direction Kenzo goes with with Nigo at the Helm.
Also, I've heard you mention Kapital in a fair few other videos, have you ever tried out FDMTL? They also specialise in Shashiko/Boro styles and the style is really good!

yes absolutely agree, kenzo right now has become known as a "street" brand (at least in SEA where i live). but the thing is kenzo design for things like t-shirt, sandals, and shoes are boring so with nigo being there i hope they can improve.

I really hate BAPE but I can see the design parallels betwen BAPE and Kenzo. I think it could work.
BAPE is one of the dopest brands. The only problem is the hype, which is our own fault.
@@barecanvasbro The design has never appealed to me, even when seeing it for the first time. In fact it's just plain ugly to me (camo, shoes, ape graphic, etc)

They are still very underrated. LVMH needs to better market the brand. Nigo dropped nice collection one after another but market reaction hasn’t popped yet.

Nah, the hyptrain is real. Nigo is a one trick pony. He isn’t able to refresh designs and we’ve already seen that across his other brands like BAPE and HumanMade. Even for his own brand, he didn’t create new silhouettes or push artistic boundaries. Literally americanized streetstyle but “designed in japan”, it’s cute on graphic T’s, not so cute if Kenzo is looking to reinvigorate it’s branding by rejoining the luxury fashion scene through it’s historical use of bold patterns and innovative cuts and materials. This is the japanese version of LV hiring Virgil but worst cause LV already has the brand cache to pretty much succeed in anything while Kenzo has been stagnant and doesn’t have the same level of brand recognition. SMH Hypebeast and nigoheads might jump on it the first season but like the humanrace sneakers and bape, the sale target requirements for a whole company will mean supply > demand and kill that hypetrain.
I can see that point of view BUT some of the other projects in Japan that NIGO has been a part of have been more than “slap graphic on tee”.
Plus the fact that creative directors stay at houses shorter than before (2-5years), the fact that NIGO is at KENZO alone will absolutely reinvigorate the brand.
The issue in your argument is “purist vs business”. While I too love when a designer explores innovative design, the fact is that is LESS important to the consumer and will be as long as trends move much faster than ever.

I was Kenzo Takada's fan for almost 20 years (since I was 18 year old), I knew the spirit that he wanted to project, namely a new romanticism, the beauty of dexterity and details... also the contrast of simplicity but unique presentation.
Unfortunately, NONE of the past designers appointed by LVHM could fulfill the criterias, including Nigo.
Obviously, Nigo is making "new Kenzo" became more Japanese looks, also trying to adopt some flowers and stripes elements from the old Kenzo Takada's concept but it's not well presented, more like a cartoon-inspired fashion now 😔

human made = trash, bape = average, lv x nigo collab = average, however, nigo's name alone will bring a lot of hype to kendo. only thing left is to see what he can do with design and aesthetics.
