This song is a most beautiful, comforting song for anyone who knows hurt and could use a hand to get up out of a rut. For all the feelings inspired over the decades, thank you Marshall Tucker Band.
Hey man I have more anxiety and have suffered depression and still am right now but together we can overcome this shit. Why I never understood wars and hatred. "Why can't we be friends"?
" "So much simpler time. Real people, real music and real life"...........Spot on statement. There is much to be said for having lived a life before "high tech" was thrust upon us. I still don't own a cell phone. My old landline works just fine!
I'm sad I never experienced any of that. All I can do is be grateful for the music I can collect and listen to. The music and movies from that time in our country were pieces of art. I take my 4 yr old to record stores and we pick out what looks cool. The cover art, the designs all of it is truly inspiring. Unfortunately when I look around the US today I'm seen as the enemy. A straight white man in my early 30s trying to figure it all out and provide for my family. Society, music, news, media everything tells me I'm bad and to blame for all the bad that has happened and continues to happen. That I'm inherently racist cuz of my skin color and I must be sexist cuz I'm a straight man. It's really depressing to see what has happened over the last 50 years.
That acoustic intro from the first note just takes me to a different place. It's like a southern cultural experience and brings me right back to my childhood.

This was my life as a kid and carried onto to this day as well, only now I ride my Harley out of town. I am still the same man I always have been, fare, honest, and well spoken of. A man you do not want to cross.
"A man you do not want to cross" says .....LordsWayMinistry. Hmmm....I didn't know the Lord was like that. Have to read that old Bible of mine again, I guess. LOL
I've had a lot of people in my life who said that they "would always be there for me", but unfortunately, just kinda came and went, and once they left my life, they didn't say goodbye, so this song really resonates for me, making me feel betrayed, feeling like they just abandoned me, not unlike the narrator of this song feeling abandoned by his ex-lover. I can relate to his feelings about no one noticing if anything were to happen to him. According to the song's Wikipedia article, country singer, Waylon Jennings did a cover version. I can see how country artists would do cover versions of southern rock songs. Southern rock lends itself well to country. This song's melancholic overtones are also heavily associated with country music. One of the most unique things about The Marshall Tucker Band is that they had a flute player (Jerry Eubanks) whose playing can be heard at the beginning and end of this song. In spite of their name, none of the band members were actually named "Marshall Tucker", and the regular lead vocalist was Doug Gray (although lead guitarist, Toy Caldwell, does the lead vocals here, while regular lead singer, Doug Gray, wasn't part of this song). The other members included bassist Tommy Caldwell (who I believe was Toy Caldwell's brother), rhythm guitarist George McCorkle and drummer Paul Riddle. Harmony vocals were typically sung by flute player Jerry Eubanks (who also played saxophone on several tracks, and occasionally played keyboards) and bassist Tommy Caldwell. For this particular song, Jai "Jaimoe" Johanny Johansson (better known as a drummer for The Allman Brothers Band) provided percussion, and producer, Paul Hornsby, played the keyboards. On The Marshall Tucker Band's first several albums, producer, Paul Hornsby, played virtually all the keyboard parts.
@@danielscott3117 There's also plenty other songs of all different genres (past and present) from many different artists other songs that resonate for me in that sense; the songs are listed in order from saddest to the most hopeful; It Makes No Difference (The Band), Love's The Last To Know (Bob Seger), Late For The Sky (Jackson Browne), Stars (Grace Potter & The Nocturnals), Yesterday (The Beatles), My World Is Empty Without You (The Supremes), I Want You Back (The Jackson 5), I'll Be Around (The Spinners), I'll Be There (The Jackson 5), The Fire Inside (Bob Seger), Positively 4th Street (Bob Dylan), Sorry Is A Sorry Word (The Temptations), You Give Love A Bad Name (Bon Jovi), I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Marvin Gaye), Someday We'll Be Together (Diana Ross & The Supremes) and Let It Be (The Beatles). Notice how I started with songs that express extreme sadness, then moving to songs that express anger, and ending with songs that express hope, that one day I'll reunite with them. I tend to listen to those songs in that very same order that I just mentioned. Thank you for sharing your own experience. Regards.

First woman I dated in college took me to a Marshall Tucker concert, and I remember the powerful effect this song had on me. It is a universal expression of the despair and heartbreak you feel when love ends and a future without her is impossible to imagine...

When I was a kid, my dad used to play the hell out of MTB. I grew older, got into rock, metal, AC-DC, even some disco. One day I flipped the radio on and tuned in the local classic rock station, hoping to hear some Heart, Boston, Fleetwood Mac and the usual stuff. On came this song. The intro hit a part of my soul that hadn't hadn't been touched in years. About 3 notes in, I was already back in my childhood, hanging out with dad in those days listening and loving this tune. I was on a major nostalgia trip like no other.
Soooo much better than the short version......very much more deep. That guitar, this soul, this bass......i love it. Its just the best quality version available on TH-cam.❤
Just doesn't get any better than this......one of my favorite songs and thankful I have CPR and JC and the boys to do an absolutely amazing cover of it..... love my Home Grown Carolina Boys.
I was raised on southern rock and everything in between. This song caught my heart when I was 9 . I was in trouble with my mama and she was making me clean and reorganize the garage. Just me and the radio. I heard this song and loved it ever since. Saw them in concert in st.Louis about 4 years ago. Sounded amazing and it was a great experience. Love ❤️. Always
This song makes me want to leave my troubles and hitch hike as far as I can, just to see where I end up. Not tell anyone where I am going, and start a whole new, fabulous life 😁
WITHOUT ANY APOLOGIZES. I was just thrown back to my childhood...... I was 12, or 13, and my next door neighbor was having a party. Saturday afternoon, early evening. Loud music. LIVE.Loud music. I was glad to hear it! I went to the fence. (DON'T TELL ME YOU WOULDN'T HAVE DONE IT, TO! I'LL CALL YOU ON IT! ) Shortening the story, There is a venue, too small for #Steve Martin to play. The Santa Fe Banjo, and Fiddle Contest. My next door neighbor, founded it!
This song played on a Spotify or Pandora radio station last year in our IT office. Ever since discovering this song, once it comes on in my playlist, it gets played on repeat at least 5 more times.
Whatever happened to the KEG PARTIES, Just hangin outside, BS'n with everyone, smokin, drinking, jammin, smiles on our faces and a solo cup in one hand , and trying to get a cigarette in between doobs but can't 😋
We grew up man, got responsibilities, car payments, rent etc. We became exactly what we wanted to be when we were free spirits. Now we’d do anything just to be able to live in the moment one more time. That’s what happened. We became adults. I wish I’d never rushed it.
If you look hard enough, there really is some good music out there, but no, no one will ever compete with the challenges of man determined we locked it down. I'm not giving any disrespect to the 50s and 60s. Because I led us to the 70s, but the 70s man we rocked.
This is a classic...there is so much emotion in his voice.....one of my favs of all time...gonna take a train till it run out of track.....gonna find me a hole crawl inside and die........deep .....really deep
This song debuted 10 years before I was born and I consider it to be one of the greatest pieces of music ever created. No wayyy I can hit Caldwell's notes, but moving forward, karaoke night, an intimidating entry to the stage but you only live once haha

I lost my aunt fritz to breast cancer that spread to her brain etc lost my dad before I met him again. I only met him once and looked him up and he had died 6 months earlier. Ain't that a bitch. My grandmother passed from lung cancer that spread to her brain. This is getting to be way to much for me to handle. I have 6 kids. Oldest is 17 graduates tomorrow. Youngest is 8. I'm 37 yrs old and I have been through so much and learned so much. Do something with it. What do u want people to remember u by? Go for your goals and do something with your time before it's too late. Call everyone u love and tell them how much they mean to you. God bless.

'Til the train, it run out of track ❤
This was my life as a kid and carried onto to this day as well, only now I ride my Harley out of town. I am still the same man I always have been, fare, honest, and well spoken of. A man you do not want to cross.
"A man you do not want to cross" says .....LordsWayMinistry. Hmmm....I didn't know the Lord was like that. Have to read that old Bible of mine again, I guess. LOL
Take me back, what a time we had…..
Felt this a few times in my life. A soul touching song
I been playing this for 12 years with 3 different bands, never gets old
I've had a lot of people in my life who said that they "would always be there for me", but unfortunately, just kinda came and went, and once they left my life, they didn't say goodbye, so this song really resonates for me, making me feel betrayed, feeling like they just abandoned me, not unlike the narrator of this song feeling abandoned by his ex-lover.
I've lost friends too and don't know where they went.
Regards.
My Favorite with Toy Caldwell belting it out..
If this song doesn't hit you I feel sorry for you, but at the same time I am jealous.

I’ve said it before - this is the greatest country rock song ever. And if not, it’s certainly on the podium.
I'm gonna take a freight train, down at the station
I don't care where it goes
Gonna climb me a mountain, the highest mountain
Jump off, nobody gonna know
Can't you see oh can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman lord been doin' to me
I'm gonna find me a hole in the wall
I gonna crawl inside and die
'Cause my lady now, mean ol' woman lord, never told me goodbye
Can't you see oh can't you see
What that woman lord she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman lord been doin' to me
I gonna buy me a ticket now, as far as I can
Ain't a-never comin' back
Ride me a Southbound
All the way to Georgia now
Till the train run out of track
Can't you see oh can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me, oh lord
Can't you see oh can't you see
What that woman lord she been doin' to me
Can't you see oh can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see (oh she's such a crazy lady) can't you see
What that woman (what a woman) she been doin' to me
Can't you see (lord I can't stand) oh can't you see
What that woman, oh she been doin' to me
Can't you see (I'm gonna take a freight train) can't you see
(I'm down at the station lord) what that woman (ain't never gonna go back) been doin' to me
Can't you see oh can't you see (gonna ride me the southbound)
(All the way to Georgia) what that woman (till the train run out of track) been doin' to me
Went to Daytona beach with my dad to watch the races that night was the first time I have ever heard this band we had so much fun and so little money I miss you daddy 🙏 RIP
Always loved this song!
1979 Vancouver BC Pacific Colosseum and they were damn good!
This ole Native American winyan still loves this song aye
First woman I dated in college took me to a Marshall Tucker concert, and I remember the powerful effect this song had on me. It is a universal expression of the despair and heartbreak you feel when love ends and a future without her is impossible to imagine...
Classics like this will never die. We may lose the great folks that wrote and sang them but the songs they leave behind means that they'll be with us forever because Legends Never Die.

Those first licks by Toy when you haven't heard it for a while!
EXCELLENT upload.
God, yes...
2 seconds😁✌️
Every true man can relate to this piece. We all have that old mean woman in our lives.
Soooo much better than the short version......very much more deep. That guitar, this soul, this bass......i love it. Its just the best quality version available on TH-cam.❤

YUP

The groups that started rock, Are the Greats
Just doesn't get any better than this......one of my favorite songs and thankful I have CPR and JC and the boys to do an absolutely amazing cover of it..... love my Home Grown Carolina Boys.
I was raised on southern rock and everything in between. This song caught my heart when I was 9 . I was in trouble with my mama and she was making me clean and reorganize the garage. Just me and the radio. I heard this song and loved it ever since. Saw them in concert in st.Louis about 4 years ago. Sounded amazing and it was a great experience. Love ❤️. Always
70s the best
This song makes me want to leave my troubles and hitch hike as far as I can, just to see where I end up. Not tell anyone where I am going, and start a whole new, fabulous life 😁
Safety in numbers, when do we leave?!
I hope everyone is doin fine.
I'm on a homicidal rampage. I killed a coworker, several prostitutes, a few unlucky civilians, and a dog. But other than that I'm doin just fine.
I am not. Can't go on. Sorry mom.

Absolutely love how this song speaks to me.
It speaks to everyone. ✌👌
Yes it does
WITHOUT ANY APOLOGIZES.
Back when music was something really special and you knew it!
This song played on a Spotify or Pandora radio station last year in our IT office. Ever since discovering this song, once it comes on in my playlist, it gets played on repeat at least 5 more times.
🥀Beautiful Sad Love Song! Leave it up to Marshall Tucker Band only they can write great song's like this it's priceless🥀☝️
Whatever happened to the KEG PARTIES, Just hangin outside, BS'n with everyone, smokin, drinking, jammin, smiles on our faces and a solo cup in one hand , and trying to get a cigarette in between doobs but can't 😋
Good old days no internet just big bonfire good friends good bud and cold beer no worries just living in the moment
Neighbors that did t wanna hear your music..
People that grew up on this you know what to do just enjoy the ride it goes fast and all the haters go back to your meaningless lives
We grew up man, got responsibilities, car payments, rent etc. We became exactly what we wanted to be when we were free spirits. Now we’d do anything just to be able to live in the moment one more time. That’s what happened. We became adults. I wish I’d never rushed it.
People grow up and have kids.
If you look hard enough, there really is some good music out there, but no, no one will ever compete with the challenges of man determined we locked it down. I'm not giving any disrespect to the 50s and 60s. Because I led us to the 70s, but the 70s man we rocked.
I went from wanting to get on that freight train alone.. to 15 years later looking houses out of state to take my family with me
This was recorded In 1973. People are still commenting 2 weeks ago. Only a few songs are this good
This is a classic...there is so much emotion in his voice.....one of my favs of all time...gonna take a train till it run out of track.....gonna find me a hole crawl inside and die........deep .....really deep
This song is a little before my time but I still love it. I can only listen to this version with the extra guitar in the beginning ❤
This song debuted 10 years before I was born and I consider it to be one of the greatest pieces of music ever created. No wayyy I can hit Caldwell's notes, but moving forward, karaoke night, an intimidating entry to the stage but you only live once haha
Same here, well close. I was born in 80.
As much as I love southern rock you’d think it’d be hard to pick a favorite. You’d be wrong. This is the one.
Dont anyone forget, that the singer did tour in Nam!
Good old Toy
And he volunteered!
God Bless 🙏 him!
My boyfriend was there!
No wait....he was in Iraq....🤷♀️🤦♀️
Thank you for the music ! Everyone in Texas stay strong, and please enjoy something! 🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷
love this version. the extended intro makes it so much better :)
So loving this song it's me so perfect but it's a man what a joke is always Patricia ❤
Just found out my sis has advanced stage ovarian cancer. She is 39 2 kids 10 and 12. My mom loved.this song
She passed almost.2 years ago from lung cancer. I miss her more everyday. Isk why we r on this earth but I do know that we need to savor every moment with the ones we love because things change in the blink of an eye. You never know how much time u have left. Cherish it. Do something with it. What do u want people to remember u by? Go for your goals and do something with your time before it's too late. Call everyone u love and tell them how much they mean to you. God bless.
"Gonna climb me a mountain, the highest mountain 🎶🎵🎼🎶 and jump off, and nobody is gonna know"🎼🎼🎶🎶🎶 . I'm sorry for your losses, God gives his greatest battles to his best Warriors. Cant you see woow cant you see.🎶🎼🎶🎶
Hope you are doing ok. Sorry you have been going through a tough time. Keep faithful.
1961 was smoking hot music when we listened to it for pleasure with NO agenda
The greatest band to ever live rock on may have been the best southern rock band in history !
John Ellis Lynyrd Skynyrd
one of the great southern rock bands
