As a ex motorcycle road racer of the earlier 80s. I enjoyed this because back in the day most of our prep was things like this how to make this fit this or what can we do to make it work. Such as valve shims for fork spring preload . Bracing on a swing arm pulling off the stator and cuting the cover for ground clearance . Fliping shifter backwards to get pegs up . Larger tires would rub at speed so modified fenders and thus fork bracing changes . I always wondered if once the out of the box ready racers hit do some of the fun of figuring out how to get a bike working on the track get lost .. Do not get me wrong racers always will work to improve but today's stuff is so good . Things like matching the intake rubbers to the port , timing to the correct points all things not expensive just time consuming and huge gains . But the hours of thinking and testing ideas were the best . Much better than plug and play sure not even close in quality at times but the pride of unique solutions .
Don't forget, the hub can be offset from the rim by adjusting the spokes. That way the rotor can fit and the wheel will still be centered in the forks.
OC: Looking forward to seeing Judd's solution for mating Yamaha rims to Honda forks and swingarm. Life points? You need to bandage Chase, but you'll pull through.
The crf300l has the same axle diameters, so you could have got supermoto or dual sport wheels for that, which would probably have fit the cbr300r, without so much specialty work.
OKay, So I am doing this right now. Yamaha bolt 19inch rim on my Fz07, reasons are because I can and I ride with Jakethegardensnake, I will leave that there. SO I made the wheel spacers out of 6061 aluminum instead of the steel that is stock on both the fz07 and Bolt, as Harleys have 6061 aluminum spacers (800-1000lb bikes), my fz07 at most for a trip is 450-500lbs so it should be fine, unless some one tells me otherwise. As I am unsupervised just doing my thing till some one tells me otherwise. As for the brake, would you suggest making a spacer for the rotor? or the Caliper? Right now, Im working on the spacer for the caliper, total thickness is going to end up being 1/2 inch steel. Should be strong enough. My thought behind that is supermotos have all this big rotor brake kits. with a caliper relocation bracket with no issues.
I wouldnt have the rotor machined down thats just gonna make the next brake job gonna cost even more. Surely Judd can make a custom caliper bracket so that the new owner can just swap out a rotor when the time comes.
Where is the next video of this build?? Did you guys give up or is it coming?? And try a non wave brake disc. sometimes the wave disc`s are a litle biger diameter then regular ones. And why do you need new bearings? just make spacers that fit the yamaha wheel and the cbr wheel bolt.
