3:40 the point Dom makes about Mahomes getting the late hit out of bounds calls is 100% true and an issue, but the sliding thing is just egregious. Don’t say it was late. We’d be having this issue weekly or more if Trevor Lawrence slide is considered “late”. Either every other defender just way out-classes Al-Shaair in spacial awareness and body control or Al-Shaair tried to take off Lawrence’s head.
IThis is very fair. T-law was clearly sliding, and Azeez gave him a dirty hit.He seems genuinely remorseful. Plus, he is a repeat offender. hopefully, this signals the lead to stop hitting qb when sliding
Al-Shaair should consider himself lucky that he wasn’t suspended for the rest of the season, but honestly, for repeating violations, he also should’ve been heavily fined $50K
Just get rid of the slide. More QB have been hurt sliding or getting hit while sliding than they have by getting tackled in the open field. When do they give the defenders a break and realize this is a violent sport.
Too many quarterbacks try to tippy toe with using the Leagues protection and getting more yards on the play , Trevor Lawrence was being too greedy and he should’ve been considered a runner, therefore you got the end results Trevor was clearly trying to get the first down and the Texan player was trying to stop him from getting it. Period !
Al-Shaair launched himself to tackle a running quarterback BEFORE Trevor Lawrence started to slide and give himself up! Lawrence was still upright when he was hit! Unfair!
'Its not the defenders job to protect the offense' Bro thats exactly wrong. The defense could destroy people every play if they wanted. They have responsibility what is bro talking about.
Have you played defense before? It’s really not easy to just “turn it off”. The whole goal is to get the runner down and to cause pain. Obviously within the rules but you want your tackle to hurt to mentally effect them and I couldn’t image playing in the NFL with 6’5” QBs coming at me not knowing if he’s going to drop his shoulder, juke, or slide.
@smokinace926 the 'within the rules' is the part you are misunderstanding. Defenders have to program those things into their mind so it's not a thought. Dude was talking like Trevor Lawrence didn't hesitate for like 3 steps before going down. Yeah the defenders want to hit them but they gotta do it legally and have that be their instincts.
Shame on you, Dominique! That forearm smash was a deliberate attempt to injure the opposing player! I understand momentum and all but he made zero attempt to avoid the QB who had already started his slide. He launched into him late, on purpose.
Just so that we are clear. If a QB, ANY QB, slides toward the first down line at the last second, he's untouchable. That's what we are saying. If they suspend him for the 'accumulation' of fines...fine...but if the message is that Trevor should have been allowed to slide at the last second, it brings in many other issues. If Trevor doesn't slide and runs another 10 yards etc...that player likely gets cut if he's not a top top player too.
If this was a 1 time hit there is no way it should be a suspension. These QB’s can’t slide at last second and expect the defender to be able to stop on a dime and avoid the hit. I think the forearm is what sends it over and I am not even sure that was the defenders intended result as he is also trying to land the hit while the QB is sliding you just can’t move your body in those fractions of a second. This slow motion replay always makes it seem like it was intent when in fact the tackle was already in motion when the QB started the slide.
He saw Trevor going down and he also drop down to hit him with his elbow. Yall act like theres not decades of football where concussions is an issuse and yall act like a hit like that wasnt intentionally.
@ you probably can’t even stop the momentum you build up going down stairs let alone running near full speed with the intent to tackle someone already in play.
@@Fiftyone50again ok well then that means if Trevor Lawrence didnt slide, he was actively still trying to dive head first into trevor's knee caps. thats still a dirty hit man
100% agree. 2 separate conversations. If you have rules in place to protect sliding players and players running to the sideline, you cannot then take advantage of that and fake slide or try to fake go out of bounds like Caleb Williams did in the Thanksgiving game. Can’t do that. But, no question the Al-Shaair hit was a dirty hit from a guy who has a history of crossing the line. Leading with the elbow/forearm to the head of a sliding player is never ok.
Al-Shaair is a clown, Dominique is a clown. And heal up Trev. “I don’t want to get into Al-Shaair specifically” is how you start your take??? Shut up dude
The league needs to be more consistent, which is a significant issue. When Nathan Shepherd did a dirty hit on Justin Herbert and added a twist of his injured ankle, there were cries of foul-play throughout the media, yet the NFL looked the other way, only issuing a fine. Does a QB have to be injured on the play for the league to take action?
Who exactly do you build your team around? Good quarterbacks aren't exactly easy to come by. People don't tune in to watch the backup quarterback play.
Has had multiple instances of being a dirty player which they said takes account in how many games he will be suspended. The mayhem afterwards also didn’t help. At the minimum he should have been suspended for however long Trevor is out.
This one seemed pretty clear that he was going to slide. Mahomes is infamous at faking the step out of bounds which pisses me off because defenders have no way to counter. But this was middle of the field with like 3 defenders. No chance he was going to try and break those tackles.

This wasnt intentional and trevor did a wierd slide. I slowed it down and it was still close. Game time is like twice as fast. It just looked bad and was unfortunate. 3 games is a steep penalty for an accident.
He sliding at the last minute and they expect him to stop. Tell those quarterback to slide and not at the last minute and those things won’t happen. What he suppose to do if they fake the slide? QB need to be held accountable for their own actions.
Defense plays aggressively and when you have a qb trying to get over on a defensive and not sliding in time to get an extra yard it’s has a price to pay , Tom Brady said it the best
NFL has to find a balance with this..Trevor clearly should have slid faster but he wanted extra yards which then made the defender reaction off INSTINCTS..If you ever played real football you know how hard it is to stop on a dime after your in FULL PURSUIT of the ball carrier..Dude does have a rep for doing this so the suspension is fine with me, but the NFL has to tell these QBs go down or risk taking a hit cause this is getting outta hand
Nobody is saying QB can’t be hit or the defender have to stop on a dime, Al-Shaair led with a forearm which has a stiff brace on towards Trevor, his intention was to “punish” Trevor, not tackling him.
@@Phat-rj3jo when you go for a tackle at full speed your arms stretch out NATURALLY..This is why I said only ppl that played football will understand..Shaair thought Trevor was gonna keep going for more yards which it definitely looked that way at first but Trevor realized as the defenders were collapsing on him he couldn’t get anymore yards so he slid but the slide was already too late cause Shaair was already in the motion of the tackle..Patty does this a lot and Caleb just did this last week, these QBs have to learn to just slide
the slide was late and the first down boundary was right there. I agree with a punishment as al shaair could have avoided following through, but ultimately this is on Lawrence. 2-3 games is all I felt was justified. If you're going to make a football play and do this late to go a couple extra yards for a first down, you gotta expect to get touched. Take contact accordingly.
I feel like Trevor pushed the envelope on that slide, he should’ve did it a little sooner. Al-Shaair deserves the suspension, but man there’s a thin line here. Are we just going to let QBs get first downs whenever they run now?
you get ruled down where you initiate the slide not where you end up after sliding. he wouldve been short a yard or two either way. he had his head knocked off during the slide
It’s football, ESPN and these fans act like he committed a crime or he’s a bad persons. It’s disgusting to see defensive players getting held over the coals.
You don't get a concussion from an elbow, brace or not, to the chest/neck. He got it from his head banging on the "turf". Trever would have went concussed with a palm to the chest. It is obvious these guys are "towing the line" here. Saying, in other situations the QB should slide sooner. You know they want to say that is the case here. Azeez could have and should have tried to avoid the collision and Trevor should have started his slide sooner. The flag was warranted for the hit and the ejection for the altercation and display after was warranted. A fine and one game suspension would have been enough. They are penalizing the injury. If Trevor pops up, this is a non issue.
A fine and a one match suspension for a repeat offender was never going to run. It was always going to be heftier. A hand to TLaw’s chest wouldn’t have caused a concussion as there wouldn’t have had as much force as the diving elbow.
He only got suspended cause he’s done this before..But the weird thing about it is all of his hits were bang bang plays nothing seemed intentional on his part..These QBs gotta start sliding faster and stop tryna get a few extra yards

There's a difference between tackling a player and trying to take their head off. Use your brain.
@@CoolWeather28 Yes, my brain understands inertia, physics, and a moving attack vector. Azeez initially was naming for Trevor's hips/legs, but the last-second slide put Trevor's chest in that spot.

Am I crazy? I don't think the hit was that bad. If you frame by frame, it feels bang bang. Which means live it was even faster. Go down earlier if you're a QB.

It was pretty bad honestly. Football isn’t played frame by frame. Those type of hits can be career ending.
@@adriang.7510 I hear that. I just feel like this one is closer/messier than people are calling it. Right before Trev goes to slide, defender is already lunging forward. If it wasn't this specific player, I think it would be a fine.
I dont either, I'm not a football fanatic, maybe a bit above routine hit, both at fault
Hopefully Trevor will get down sooner next time. It’s not up to the defense to protect the QB 😂
He literally started to slide 5 yards out from Aziz. This is not a late slide, this is a dirty hit and it's delusional to pin this of this on Trevor
@ do you know how quickly 5 yards is covered when two people are moving towards each other at full speed? Do the math, it’s less than half a second. You want the defender to change his trajectory in a literal split second as opposed to the QB sliding earlier? 😂
@@mr.brooks9802your math doesn’t math. It was a dirty hit.
@@Nick_Valentine2702 I’ll help you out. Trevor ran 40 yards in 4.61 seconds that’s roughly .5 seconds to run 5 yards (4.61/40 X 5)…combine that with someone running towards him (in an opposing direction) and you get less than a split second. The math definitely maths
You protect the cash cow of the team. Defenders are a dime a dozen. Aikman still suffers from concussion symptoms and McMahon is a vegetable. Maybe you should research CTE a little bit, but hey anything for your entertainment.

My thing is why was Azeez trying to attack every single Jaguar in sight after the dirty hit and acting like he’s the victim??
He couldn’t even publicly apologize to Trevor Lawrence, he had to get his agent to type a paragraph on “Twitter”
Nobody is buying the BS apology
THEY SHOULD ALSO FIRE DOMONIQUE FOXWORTH FROM THIS PANAL. !!
Why? Because you don't agree with him?
Forward sliding when defenders are in front of you should not exist. Just take it out. If you want to run, run. You're less likely to have a bad injury that way. Domonique is right.
As a jags fan that was dirty asf but don't give someone the ability to do that! Dive at the defenders feet so they can't do that
Jeff usually has good points, good analyst all around. When it comes to late hits it's important to see sanctions be in full effect in order to decrease them.

Need a new rule: 15 yard penalty for fake slides.
What does that have to do with this instance?
Newsflash: NFL doesn’t have a fake slide problem.

Just make it flag football.
If you become a RB, you should be tackled as a runner. If you don't want to get hit, stay in the pocket.
You don't hit nobody like this.. this been a thing for 30 years.
@johnyervins5824 except when it was Cam Newton. He took hits like this regularly without a penalty because he was seen as a "running" QB.

Now close your eyes and imagine the QB was black. What would Foxworth say?
Probably the same thing.

Anyone who has ever played football knows, you are taught your whole life to get low and drive through a tackle. Quarterbacks need to not slide, to purposely bring your head to that level is idiotic in my opinion. I want the game to be safe also and that's why you shouldn't slide take the hit and be okay like the other 200 tackles a game.
I love jeff Saturday but your wrong he's not launching into a head of a player the runner is purposely putting his head on a platter.
Bruh I get your point buts it’s moot here. No way are you launching your forearm and helmet into a guys face. That’s not hitting low. He knows what he’s doing

And now over to Dominique Foxworth for an idiotic rambling opinion... Thankfully Jeff Saturday cuts him off.
Dom is absolutely right. The outrage is complete BS, it wasn't intentional and it was at full speed.

The new Vontaze Burfict.
His “apology” was “I’m sorry racist islamophobes didn’t like my hit”
Suspend guys for the length of time the guy they hit sits out plus at least one game. End a guy's career with a dirty hit you end your career too.
Al-Shaair should consider himself lucky that he wasn’t suspended for the rest of the season, but honestly, for repeating violations, he also should’ve been heavily fined $50K
S0ft as charmin 😂😂
He plays 1 more regular season game...
Just get rid of the slide. More QB have been hurt sliding or getting hit while sliding than they have by getting tackled in the open field. When do they give the defenders a break and realize this is a violent sport.
Already participated in the Alemio presale, and I’m feeling pretty good about the future of ALM. Time to get in while the price is still low!
Too many quarterbacks try to tippy toe with using the Leagues protection and getting more yards on the play , Trevor Lawrence was being too greedy and he should’ve been considered a runner, therefore you got the end results
Trevor was clearly trying to get the first down and the Texan player was trying to stop him from getting it. Period !
Exactly
so if trevor didnt slide, al shaair would have dove head-first into his knees. is that acceptable? it was a dirty hiit no matter what the qb did
Thank You !!!
I love how dumb yall are
Nope
Al-Shaair launched himself to tackle a running quarterback BEFORE Trevor Lawrence started to slide and give himself up! Lawrence was still upright when he was hit! Unfair!
'Its not the defenders job to protect the offense'
Bro thats exactly wrong. The defense could destroy people every play if they wanted. They have responsibility what is bro talking about.
No they can't. Defenders can't do anything, meanwhile QBs can fake slide or fake running out of bounds.
#FREEAZEEZ
Shame on you, Dominique! That forearm smash was a deliberate attempt to injure the opposing player! I understand momentum and all but he made zero attempt to avoid the QB who had already started his slide. He launched into him late, on purpose.
I hope all these Texans defending Azeez, are gonna be ok when their team exits in the first round.

You can play defense without intending to do serious harm. That guy INTENDED TO KNOCK HIM out .
Headhunting is not "playing defense."
If they didn't have the slide rule Trevor would have to take his skirt off and make a business decision instead they left that to the defender only

Yall only blowing this hit up cuz it happened to an expensive qb

Crazy a QB can slide as late as they want or fake going out of bounds to gain extra yards and the defender has to pay for it

the slide was late and the first down boundary was right there. I agree with a punishment as al shaair could have avoided following through, but ultimately this is on Lawrence. 2-3 games is all I felt was justified. If you're going to make a football play and do this late to go a couple extra yards for a first down, you gotta expect to get touched. Take contact accordingly.
The reason why he got suspended for 3 games is not because of the late hit but! because he led with his elbow nobody wants to point that out tho.🤨🙄🙄
I feel like Trevor pushed the envelope on that slide, he should’ve did it a little sooner. Al-Shaair deserves the suspension, but man there’s a thin line here. Are we just going to let QBs get first downs whenever they run now?

The NFL needs to do something about this otherwise the league won't be around for long just saying.
Should be longer!
He only got suspended cause he’s done this before..But the weird thing about it is all of his hits were bang bang plays nothing seemed intentional on his part..These QBs gotta start sliding faster and stop tryna get a few extra yards
Might as well just get the flags and remove the shoulder pads. QBs are overpaid and protected
