It's wonderful to hear, and see, the person for whom it was written, actually singing the song. It can't mean more to anyone else who sings it.
Beautiful.
She's been singing this song for 66 years and you can tell how much it still means to her. Really beautiful performance.
So it is. Look at her face at the last picture.
I met Peggy at the end of the Ewan MacColl Tribute Concert 'Joy of Living' in Dublin in 2016. I told Peggy that I used to go to the Bull & Mouth Pub in Central London back in the late 70s to listen to herself and Ewan sing. "You made me cry" I told her and then explained that she did a poignant redition of the 'Agent Orange Song' after she told the story about how an American pilot had suffered and died as a result of spreading chemicals over the forests in Vietnam. The song was made popular by Country Joe MacDonald, but Peggy's live version was so much more meaningful and heart-rendering. She grasped both my hands and said: "Thank you, you have made my night". Peggy shares her soul with all who know her...
I also spend time at the Bull and Mouth - in the Winter/ Spring of 1981 while on an overseas study. Peggy and Ewan's bi-weekly performances were a seminar of how to do this folk singing thing... let the songs do the talking; give them room to breathe... lyrics are almost everything, with a lovely melody to take the message along... an amazing experience for this Yankee. To this day, I am grateful. SP
Wow! I thought I had heard this so many times, but this was The First Time.
Beautiful, a love song written for her by Ewan McColl her husband.
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for this blessing
Perfect song for the lady to reprise a gift to those of us of us who share her years here.
Wow. I never realised who wrote this incredible song . So beautiful both the song and the singer.
Wonderful peggy.
Beautiful.❤
Wow. It is her song. This video is priceless. Thank you Peggy!
i really love this... so beautiful
thank you.
This is the most amazing version of this song ever . The compassion, genuine , emotional rendering of it always brings me to tears . Thankyou Peggy Seager and your beautiful energy.
What a happy moment I feel it in her
I can feel her joy and happiness
Congratulations! One of the most wonderful love-songs ever written!❤🔥
What a great performence this is. Just by not 'over-estimating' the words Peggy Seeger gives this song (which her husband wrote for her in 1957) a very fragile streak that is touching. And what a great lady she still is!
So nice x
Omg this is beautiful
Beautiful Peggy, thanks for all the support x
Peggy - I absolutely love this version of your song!
This is exquisite. Such emotional grace and beauty! Thank you Peggy Seege!
Superb and still such a fine voice!
A beautiful lady with a beautiful voice.....♥
Such a meaningful song, beautifully done. Thank you Peggy.
Just heart opening, Peggy! Thank you for recording this at this time of your life. Inspired all of us on the way to 80 to keep on singing!
So beautiful Peggy 🙏🏽
How wonderful! Moving, of course, beautiful too, and steeped in memories. Memorable. Thank you so much, Peggy and family.
very beautiful!
While I love other versions of this, I still prefer yours. After all, it was written for you by Ewan. I love that your kids are the videographers. Beautiful video.
Thank you for this version of "The First Time I Saw Your Face" by Peggy Seeger. What a beautiful unique rendition and interpretation of that classic. It was so positive and heartfelt. ❤
I was lucky to see Peggy and Ewan MacColl perform together at a London folk club and saw Peggy, Pete and Mike Seeger perform together as well (even got them to sign a baseball together at the event!). I also loved the version done by Mary Travers. Ewan MacColl also wrote Dirty Old Town about growing up in Salford famously done by the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl, daughter of Ewan. Peggy wrote "I'm Gonna be an Engineer". Ewan's "My Old Man" and "Nobody Knew She Was There" are make you think of the greatest of John Prine and Steve Goodman's materials.
Beautiful 😍
Beautiful! And I love the story of how it came to life.
Clearness of Peggy's voice cach me by soul
Beautiful! Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
💗💗💗
Beautiful in so many ways for so many reasons. Thank you xx
Oh my gosh - how adorable is this? I have tears in my eyes. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Peggy. It brings a lump to my throat...
Stunning, heart-rending. Thank you (83 and still kicking)
I remember seeing you from across the way sitting at a table at Gold Hill Coffee and Tea in my hometown of Asheville, NC. I knew who you were and for some reason was too shy to speak. It feels somehow so special to have had you living nearby for that short time you were in Asheville. Your performance of one of my favorite ballads is just beautiful. Be well.
This is stunning...what a voice!
Your American Folk Songs for Children album was a big influence on my young family's life back in the late 70s. I learned many of the songs and then shared them in my daughters' schools as a music teacher for years! Thank you!
Sooooo beautiful!!!!! Thanks :)
the originals always best

Just so beautiful!!! Love your voice and love this song. Thank you for sharing!
Another year. Another August. Another first-day-of-the-month. And flooding memories . . . . Peggy was my muse, my elder musical sister, her songs beating next to my heart throughout my early folksinger years (50s and 60s) in Denver and Cambridge. And mercy of mercies, she is still singing!
Her voice is amazing for her age
💖 Chills. Beauty beyond belief.
Absolutely gorgeous 🙏💙
Beautiful version Peggy, I remember when i was the Warden at Ruskin giving tours of the Headington Campus, Showing People into yours and Ewans Archive and letting them see Ewans Grammy for this song.
Simply wonderful in every respect.
Utterly gorgeous❤
Just when you thought this song couldn't get any better ........... Sublime.
So gorgeous and moving. I saw Peggy and Ewan at a pub in Brighton in 1974. It was near the beginning of a lifelong love of folk.
Inspiring playing and serenading. Touches my heart
