It is absolutely not incomplete. There is no evidence whatsoever about the phrase being "Customer is always right in matter of taste". It is just plain wrong and lack any trustworthy source to back it up.
Really weird how people take Splatter's opinion as fact.

I hate to be that guy, but Splatt is not accurate with the quote of "Customer is always right in matter of taste". That's a misconception and is a later adaptation. The quote has always been, "The customer is always right". And it simply was that the customer's concerns or complaints should be accounted for above all. It was intended to protect consumer rights and for consumers not be taken advantaged by companies.
We live in an age where "facts" and fact corrections then need to be corrected 😂 ...the internet is one big game of Chinese whispers/telephone.

It's not like we need to sit around waiting for a higher authority who gains an insight from the font of all knowledge before changing ideas and concepts.
I like your explanation about people not quite understanding what this game is trying and think you're right. That it's an ARPG/FPS hybrid and not a DooM 2016 wannabe is what makes me interested in it in the first place.
People often miss Turok, and this feels a lot like it.

Usually when i go to a steam page of a game that has mixed reviews i get really cautious and put off. But your videos are really putting the current gaming landscape in perspective for me. Sometimes even when people leave a positive review on steam but dislike 1 or two things about a game even then I'm cautious. But your commentary has made a profound affect on me lmao. This looks so much better than it did earlier on. It was so rough before.
Yeah it's also mixed because a lot of the Early Access was shit; with mad decisions like starting you all the way back in town when you loaded a game, no matter where you stopped playing. I think Splat conveniently dances past this aspect when deciding it's just because people don't understand the type of game it is.

Heretic 2 perhaps? That one also had less enemies, light RPG mechanics, light puzzeling.
Looks like it has massive potential! Would love more interaction with the magic, and maybe that's down the line. Dark Messiah is a paragon to aim for.
When Splattercat said "giant bags of gold i could use that" that really vibed with me and things i could use in life.
I like the focus on exploration, while still being a real game.

Splat Idk if you read these. I don't like watching live streams but I LOVE prepared content like this and your many other videos. Your videos have shown me so many gems of games, I count on your videos to show me games that I find fun. I COUNT on it, do whatever you need to do of course. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your no non-sense reviews and looks into other games.
I love your videos. You have turned me on to a ton of fun games. Soulash, Dungeonmans, Project Zomboid, Barony, Zorbus, Lunacid...I could go on. I think you do great work keeping all of us gamers informed on the Indy scene.
That said, I want to see you do what's right for you. If you need to dial the schedule back, that's great. You do you, and if you keep the videos rolling on your own time, I'm sure they will be that much better for the break you get between. Keep rocking. =)

Yeah as soon as I saw the gameplay during your intro I thought "meh another shooter not interesting", but then you went on to talk about how that's not how it is, and...maybe a little interesting?

I disagree, most of the negative reviews I saw isn't because the game isn't what they expected, the great majority of the negative reviews is because is yet another game on "eternal early access", specially because New Blood, despite being an amazing publisher with tons of great titles, they also have quite a lot of game that are forever early access, and I'm one of the few people who thinks "if you don't like it's on early access why buy it?" the game isn't finished what did you expect? But I do think they still have point saying that those games seems like they'll never release the full version, we saw a lot of this happening, and still is happening, so I think it's a fair criticism...

Always amuses me when the context is dropped from sayings like that. For example, "The Blood of Battle is thicker than the water of the womb." Its literally the opposite of how it gets used today.

Hexen 2 was Quake-engine based, had RPG elements (exp and stats) and character classes. Well, Hexen had all of those except for exp too. Items are obviously inspired by Hexen/Heretic stuff, so any misunderstandings are certainly on the developers.

on Ace of Bass, check out a documentary on the lead singer. Basically gave up everything becasue the fame was too much and she just wanted to be a mom.
"Customer is always right" is more of a mindset tbh, to get happy customers. It's not litterally meaning they're right. But if they get right everytime, they are happy and content. But could make them demanding and mean greedy liars ;)
This looks more like Lands of Lore 3 with significantly upgraded graphics. (Oh god, I feel old.)
Dear god, I thought I was the only person to even know about that game (hyperbole obv). I still remember the familiar and the "feel" of the game I had. Kinda wish someone would make a remake just so I could replay it but how I remember it rather than the ugly ass proto-rpg that it was.
That just looks like a good, all around, traditional RPG.

This game can be so much better than what it currently is. It mixes the bad of both worlds: the mindless NPCs and shallow world building of a boomer shooter and the weak combat of an RPG. They need to dail up at least one of these aspects - either turn the player into a fast meat grinder, or fill out the world with NPCs, stories, hidden taverns and whatnot. Even better if both. Right now, it's dull and mindless. The visuals are amazing though, even if they lack variety.

I played the demo at a past steam next fest and it was amazing. The mixed reviews definitely are misguided. Idk why steam shows doom likes in the games like section. This game definitely is more like Dark Messiah and exploration based. I think $25 is still a very good price. It releases into 1.0 tomorrow so pick it up now!

The customer is always right has no additions to it. It’s misinformation that the quote is longer. There’s even little to no record that anyone even said the customer is always right. I looked up several sources about this to confirm.

Yeah, I think you're right that people aren't really sure what this game is supposed to be. If anything it actually kind of reminds me of Strife.

This spell casting kinda reminds me of Lichdom Battlemage.
Imo, hexen (or hexen 2) is right comparison for this game, because at least it looks thats it is heavly inspired by it. Colored mana, special keys for oryginal doors, puzzles, exploration, heck health potion looks the same. Hexen was a bit slower paced too.
My guess is that the mixed opinions are because people expect that this is the next doomlike shooter. Hexen is a bit niche type of game and isnt for everyone.
I think this graven's idea is great. I liked hexen and this game looks like is trying to improve the hexenlike gameplay and not just mimic it. There is more focus on rpg/exploration. Spells being weaker but being more of a utility is suggesting that you need think and experiment more. Also these little animations like drinking potion are great.
This has all the mechanics I like in a game but I don't do early access anymore. I wishlisted it though and I'll keep an eye out for the full release.
I am surprised you don't play more Hunt: Showdown.
there have been a lot of games trying to capture that Heretic/Hexen magic , none seem to be a good as Graven does imho

I always got a dark messiah with guns feel and to be honest I don't care at all what game it is like or not like I just care if it is fun to play and from what splattercat has explained and from what I'm seeing I think I will enjoy this game alot. Only problem is I don't have a pc and I have it on my xbox and ps wishlist so whichever is cheaper is the one I'll get just wish it was already out.

I was looking through the steam reviews for this game and the one big complaint I seen from a just before 1.0 review was that this game has some problems with auto saving in bad locations, sometimes you die and load right beside an enemy and get killed again, another is someone was loading in an acid pit..
I'd say there's more inspiration from Heretic than you say, it's just less Heretic and more Heretic 2 and Hexen 2 in terms of gameplay, and it looks to me that the, more or less, the only thing they took from Heretic 1 and Hexen 1 is general design of some items.

Dark Messiah was really big on good swordplay, physics like kicking and multiple talent tree builds. This game seems to have none of those, why to even compare?

Interesting, this is a lot more like Bioshock than a boomer shooter for sure. A lot of the powers in Bioshock were good for opening things, but guns were always the superior option, even if you maxed the powers out, they never were more useful than a gun.
This totally looks like nightmare creatures for PS1. You should definitely check out that game to see what I mean.🤔

Anyone else notice that skeletons can find where you are without eyes or eyes or anything?
Irritates me a bit when the floor and walls are always clean while hack n slaying away enemies.
Yeah its nice to have an option to turn the decals on and off.
@@GameTimeWhy Looks like there is not much blood on the ground and its not an option. Graphics are not really high end, so decals won't slow your system down as much as in games like Cyberpunk or something.

This may feel like nitpicking so feel free to ignore my comment if it looks like so.
I wouldn't describe this game as a first person shooter. Much like your very accurate critcism about what a game does mainly should feel good, like a first person shooter needing to feel good when shooting guns and killing enemies, it is important to note that Graven doesn't has much of a shooter element to it. It has shooting but very limited and it doesn't feels great though partly cause it's a crossbow. I'd instead describe Graven as a first person action RPG since most combat is meant to be fought with melee although you have otehr tools like a crossbow and magic and such. Anyway, a bit nitpick about game classification so don't mind me if you don't care. Love your content, keep bringing us great games and ruining our wallets. :)
This is an immersive sim and people somehow didn't get the memo. It's so sad and I hope the final game finally gets the crowd and recognition it deserves !

@@miamor6460 Well I personally love both (although not all imsims are born equal) but yeah Graven getting a bad rep because people didn't get what it was is real sad. I think the issue is it was announced during a Realms Deep during a year where so many boomer shooters were announced with it. Core Decay is another I'm excited about !
Blood West almost got the same bad rep from the same crowd though it seems once the actual early access released it reached its crowd (but the demo reviews were crazy biased with people not getting what the game was either, clearly expecting a boomer shooter)
I find it quite sad that with how rare and unique games like the Dark Messiah are, when finally another one like it pops out to the light of the world, all smoothbrains start screeching, "Why is it not like the other games!?" This is why we can't have nice things.
