- Today I will convince you to come to the often ignored Tak Town in Tak Province, Thailand. Often labelled boring, far from the touristy Pattaya, Phuket and Koh Samui, Tak holds a special place in my heart and I will showcase 10 reasons for visiting this Jewel of Thailand. No hefty entrance fees like Bangkok and friendly natured locals make Tak an enticing place to visit. Amazing hotels, eateries Mark Wiens himself would love to visit, Museums, markets, places of historical interest and a unique playground will all entice you to visit Tak Town.

Nightmare about the flight back. Apparently Qatar are the best airline in the world, according to "Skytrax Airline Awards". I have been coming to Thailand since 1979; initially I was working in Hong Kong and spent all the time I coukd in Thailand to escape the stultifying Colonial atmosphere!
Now nearly 80 I look for ease of transport facilities, somewhere disabled friendly, and with good hospital nearby with a spinal unit.
I still visit Chiang Mai and Bangkok annually but doubt I could venture to Tak.
Your recent Crewkerne sojourn confirms me - in Suffolk - that one should 'live, love, garden and die' in the English countryside! Convince me otherwise!

Thailand's between destinations, that's quite a good theme for this one. Thailand's exotic isolated vibes have been dwindling since I first heard of Thailand as a child back in the early 60s. I live in one of Thailand's more isolated mid size cities, "Chaiyaphum" and the feel of being surrounded by nothing but Thai-people is unique, bring back some of that exotic destination feel. I loved it so much I decided to live in that feel forevermore. "Breaking away, getting away from it all", those are the small Thai town vibes a hermit like me cherishes most. *This has been another great show James, thanks so much* 🙏

Currently travelling Asia at the moment, but couldn't get a side trip to Thailand. Hopefully in the next year, miss the cheap Som Tam and food in general. Hope to rent a SUV outside Bangkok next time in Thailand and get up your way and on to Chiang Mai our next visit.

What a well presented and funny video to watch, you do have a talent at the narrative with your cockney chatter/banter. It's cheaper at that hotel to stay with that spectacular view than it is to stay at a Travel lodge or Premier Inn in the UK! Worth a visit for a few days.

I think we stayed in the same room on our visit to Thailand last October.
We loved the included breakfast and sat in the old ballroom. It certainly would've been a fantastic hotel in its day. Renovations were happening whilst we were there.
We only stayed overnight and then the next morning drove up into the mountains for the weekend with friends. Can't remember the name but the road has 1219 curves.
Next time we're there, it'd be great to catch up for an iced latte.

my parents visited me in 2004 and were expecting grass huts coming upcountry. They had that same corner room. My father raved about that hotel for many years. He said it was much nicer than the Harvard Club in NYC and 10% of the cost. He could not imagine why it was there.
Certainly is a great place for a night or two. Enjoyed the breakfast as well.👍🍺
Looks good wonder if there is golf courses near by.
There's an 18 hole course at the Bhumibol dam 50 km north of Tak town. Green fee/caddy and cart for 950 THB. Forgot to mention lol.👍👍

My wife and I stayed in Viang Tak Riverside hotel last night on our way to Chiang Mai. I believe in the same room. 3609. We both enjoy when we stop off and stay in Tak. It’s a charming city and agree it’s a very unrated place. Enjoy your videos.

TRAT is definitely on my visit list the next time I’m in Siam. That view from the hotel was spectacular, and I love those old teak houses…beautiful and spotless. Find me a villa with pool and I’m there.

True, nearest train is in Phitsanulok. Most people pass through Tak on highway one, Bangkok>Chiang Mai.

I am retiring early next year and plan to come to Thailand immediately after I stop working for a couple of months. I may well give Tak a visit. My ex-wife has a house in Sukhothai (she doesn’t live in Thailand so it is empty) and I may stay there for a while. I can see myself coming to Tak and staying in that corner suite for a few days and explore the area.
I have been to many 7/11s and although I have thought of many names to call the staff, “Angels in Green” has never been one of them. I will add that phrase to my lexicon.

Tak has a tropical savanna climate (Köppen climate classification Aw). Winters are dry and very warm. Temperatures rise until April, which is very hot with the average daily maximum at 38.5 °C (101.3 °F). On 15 April 2023, Tak measured the highest temperature ever recorded in Thailand, reaching 45.4 °C (113.7 °F),[1] the first time that Thailand recorded a temperature over 45 °C (113 °F). The monsoon season runs from May through October, with heavy rain and somewhat cooler temperatures during the day, although nights remain warm.

If you don’t read Thai, pretty much every small Thai town is concrete buildings; corroded black and grey. Then you need to look around for anything else.
Sleep, eat, exercise, nap, eat, sleep all within walking distance, worth a long weekend for sure

Yes for that price you get a great view but you need to ask for the 5th or 6th floor and the corner Suite good luck 👍

Yes, in some cases but a lot less things to do, shopping etc. Depends on your lifestyle.👍
