I recommend Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo if you like mother-daughter relationship books. It is about poetry and the relationship with her mother. She translates these feelings into her poems. Family Lore seems interesting.
@@tiarabreezy3 After reading The Poet X, Acevedo became one of my favourite contemporary writers. Her characters are fleshed out very well. I also enjoyed With The Fire on High, which is about a teen mom juggling life motherhood and her passion for becoming a chef.
I never thought Leave the World Behind would get 5 stars from you but your love for it has actually made me want to pick it up so I hope to love it too. The Secret Lives of Church Ladies was a favorite I read this year and I’m so glad you enjoyed it X3
Im so happy to see kenya loved leave the world behind. I first heard of it on tiktok and then the other week I scored a hardcover copy of it for 3 bucks in the clearance section of half price books lol. Im def gonna have to bump it up to the top of my physical tbr now!
Clicked so fast when I saw The Secret Lives of Church Ladies! I loved it so much I've read it twice already, once the physical book and once on audio. The narrator is a perfect fit for the stories, a stunning audiobook. I love that you got an all 5 star reading week!
I just finished the audiobook for Family Lore after becoming interested from your review. I, too, love magical realism, so I was very curious, and my gosh, it was a journey. At first, I was gonna give it a solid 4,but as it progressed and then wRecked me in the end, it definitely deserves the 5. And then I went to see the goodreads reviews?????? Why are they so low??? It gave very weird vibes, some of them. So many of the things they complained about/their reasons to DNF brought everything together in the end. ugh now I need to force everyone I know to read it, lol. Thank you for another great rec!!
You sold me on Family Lore. Every Spanish speaking country speaks Spanish different and Dominicans speak faster the other countries. Dominican families it’s really common to be blended too. Cardi B speaks Dominican Spanish if you ever heard her. As a Latina I struggle to find Latin books that are good and im happy you put us on to some great books from different genres and backgrounds!
I'm so happy you got so many 5 stars!! 🥰 And i just wanted to tell you that thanks to you i got inspired to try my best and read through the books i already have in my library, and especially you inspired me to read all the books in the same year i've purchased them, which I've been trying my best to accomplish this year. So thank you for making me want to put in the work to do this personal challenge after seeing you do the same, Kenya 💗
more to add to the list i fear! 🫡🫡🫡 thank you kenya. i love you input & reviews, your vlogs give me life when i’m at work just listening to you. it’s my therapy tbh 🖤
I would have liked to hear a quick synopsis or vibe check of each book before you choose what pile it goes into. Could have been its own video and would have really enjoyed it.
Leave the world behind audiobook wasn't different narrator and but the voice isnt confusing after few chapters. I gave it 4 stars but i liked the writing and dynamic wierd kids
I know it’s not your gender Kenya but I so deeply want you to doa reading vlog for urban novels 😂😂😂because baby the cartel series by Ashley Antoinette chefs kiss

Peach Cobbler was my favorite too. I didn’t grow up religious but I related to it in the context of my father.

If you liked Secret Lives of Church Ladies, you would love Blackberries, Blackberries by Crystal Wilkerson
The Secret Lives of Church Ladies is the only short story collection I’ve ever enjoyed. It made me (almost) second guess being a short story hater
It ate sooooo bad I was shook
the rachel incident is so funny
We love this for you❤
