You might be able to use the IC-7610's scope/waterfall to display signals from the IC-R9500. You would need to use a patch cable to connect the 10.7 MHz IF output jack on the back of the IC-R9500 to the receiver antenna input on the IC-7610. Then you would tune the IC-7610 to 10.7 MHz. Depending on whether the 7610 has a receive only antenna jack, you must be careful not to transmit on the IC-7610 while the two radios are connected.
    Thanks for another neat video.

I have done this many times.. I use my Reuter RDR50 radio, as it has the ability to REVERSE the display, so when you tune the radio from right to left the display on the RDR50 will move from right to left.. The IF output is reversed... Since you cant reverse the display on the 7610, it can be confusing to watch it...
I have several radios both boat anchor and table top radios where the IF output, some 455KHz, Some 500KHz some 10.7 MHz all feed into a 6X1 HP switch and that feeds into the RDR50 receiver.. One input on the switch is a regular outside antenna so I can use the Reuter RDR50 as a regular receiver.. All the IF's are saved in memory so the display switching is automatic. I am not aware of any other receiver that will reverse the tuning display??

The truth is that even though the Icom 7610 is still a transceiver for HAMs. According to this video, it is confirmed to me that as a HAM, who also likes to monitor traffic of all kinds, this is the ideal radio for me, even though everyone is convincing me to buy a Yaesu or that the Icom 7610 is the same as the 7300, only it has one more receiver. regardless of the fact that there is absolutely perfect software for the Icom 7610 by Markus Roskosch, which takes working with frequencies to the next level again.

You got the pitch pretty identical by ear, very good Nik. Probably the 7610 was 600hz. I’m impressed by the attention to detail of the 9500. Very fine steps there on the pitch. I’ve noticed some difference on the s-meters. On the lower part of the scale, say below s5. I think you did well trading the 101 for the 7610, just my opinion. Another thing, I believe you can link them together in some way so for example if you move the 9500 vfo the 7610 will follow, hence would be like having his scope on the 9500. Otherwise just put a screen over the 9500 with an sdr taking the if out from the 9500. You should check if that’s possible, not sure. By the way if one reads the manuals from the radios can discover a whole lot of amazing things the radio can do.
    Cheers

Nick, at 17 Minutes into the video, 341 KHz, the 9500 S meter reads S8, where as the 7610 reads S2.. At other frequencies they read close to the same.. However they sound the same when listening to the beacon?? Not sure if the 7610 has a built in Bandpass filter that may be attenuating signals below 1700 KHz, like the Kenwood TS-890S has built in.. When below 1700 the Kenwood needs Preamp 1 or 2 turned on to overcome the filter..
I am not an expert on the 7610 radio being a Flex 6600M person..
Next up,, you must put the IC-R8600 up against the IC-7610, or YES!!!!! The IC-7610 up against the TS-8980S if you can get it out of the trash,,, LOL

I have a friend who bought one from china on ebay. He loves it. Look at the sellers rating and return policy then make your best judgment. Ebay also protects you if you use paypal. Of course there are no guarantees. Remember these radios are very old and most saw heavy use. Even if not used alot the parts deteriorate with age. Good luck

I heard you keep saying how bad the FTDX-101 was, but I can't find any comparison video on that radio. Care to share why besides it doesn't have a clock?

    • @dieselten01
      @dieselten01  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Keep all my comments in perspective and remember that I am not a Ham. As a DXer, SWL, beacon chaser with most of my use on AM - the 101 “aint all that and a bag of chips”. I found out after buying the radio that Yaesu neutered all of the radio functions when using AM. No adjustable bw or roofing filters. No shift or notch or any of the crazy wild things they offer in cw or ssb. Only 2 options, AM at 9khz bw and AMN at 6khz. All the new Icoms offer all their toys to the AM user. Although the 101 is an excellent Ham receiver you might be able to see why I am disappointed in it. And please don’t lay the typical “this is made for hams“ on me, as it is still a Receiver. It doesn’t matter that it has a transmitter connected to it, it still has a Receiver. Just take a look at any new Icom. All are awesome

    Dear sir,
I 've watched quite enough of your videos. I am looking for premium receiver, even though it's quite difficult to buy a second hand premium receiver in Greece. First there are not so many who have them and second, even the old ones work perfectly so no one sells them.
As I saw in another of your videos, the R 8600 can not beat the older R 9500, besides the price is quite high.
So, I was wondering whether buying a brand new today's transceiver can have an equally good reception. That doesn't leave me with much choises. Either the 7610 or the 101.
Of course I am loosing all the upper frequencies, even though I would like to have band scope like the 9500 and as frequencies as possible.
So, what is your suggestion? Shall I continue looking for a premium receiver, or leav the old tech behind and buy one of the two mentioned above?
Thank you for your time and your future answers.
    73, SV1SLB Michael

Hello Michael, a new transceiver from Icom would be an excellent choice. The 7300 or the 7610 are excellent receivers with beautiful spectrum scopes. The 7610 has a few more features but the 7300 is nice too. Buy based on your budget. I would not buy a new Yaesu for use on AM because the Icom bandwidth options are far better. Good luck!

@@dieselten01 Thank you! I already have the 7300, since 5 years now. It's indeed a fine radio, but I still search for something better, something special. The 7300 does not have a good reception in LF neither in ULF. Besides that, there are some ghost signals appearing down there. E.g. Look at 59.2 kHz, 65.265 kHz, 95 kHz.. You will find signals there without any antenna connected. These are not present on any other transceiver I 've got. Plus, it can not receive the signal from an atomic clock in Germany at 77,5 kHz, at the same time my Kenwood TS 2000 can. I am not aware if the 7610 has the same behaviour. Maybe you can try and tell us.
Again, thank you for your time answering my question. I'd be happy to see a video for this ULF between your top receivers.

@@batfalcononyoutube in the USA we do not have much at all on LF or ULF, just a few NDB’s. I show this at about 16:13 in this video we are commenting on. This NDB at 341 is a rather weak beacon at my house and the 7610 is doing as well as the 9500. At my house not only is there very little to hear, but there is significant noise on LF. My Wellbrook antennae helps but a nice quiet location would be better. If you are not using an active loop antenna you should definitely get one.

And I was happy to make the trade. I couldn’t get rid of the 101 fast enough. And my 101 was not broken, it worked just as the factory designed it (which is the problem).

@@dieselten01 I replayed the video. I think you are referring to the FTDX-101D not the MP. The 101D and the 7610 are not that far apart price wise. So it’s a matter of preference.
