I think this is the first step done by both of you. GOD BLESS YOU My suggestion is, the government and the volunteer organisations should organise partner schools, partner villages projects. The Tamil school kids spend a week with Sinhala family and vice versa. The big conflict is the cultural misunderstanding. This must be eliminated. To that we all need better communication. You cannot change from today to tomorrow. Therefore we need to work hard. This should be started with the school kids….. I take an example: Imran Khan, the best cricket player of Pakistan said in a political campaign speech that his voters are in the school. After ca 10 years his speech, he became Pakistan Prime Minister. Conclusion: Kids are our future, hope, strength and game changers. In my view the ethnic issue faced by both communities has, till this general election, been based on narratives created and used by political entities on both sides. Going back to Colonial times, the narrative used at the time to give the impression that Tamils were favoured by the British for government jobs, I think Sinhala politicians and some religious and civil society leaders created an artificial chasm between the two communities. Following this, several others were created, with one being more intense than the other. A stand taken by some Tamil politicians that not just the North but the entire East was part of a Tamil homeland, made matters worse and mutual suspicion grew. As both of you said there is an opportunity now to talk to each other in small groups and taken the discussion from there to higher levels.

Actually there’s no problem wrt general public but the problem/ trouble makers are fewer number of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim politicians. For example, before 1977 all communities lived all over the country. Jaffna had many Sinhalese and the south had many Tamils they all lived in peace and harmony. After UNP government’s brutal actions against Tamils in the country things started to change but now everything is changing with the NPP government. Devolution of power should be given only to the people but not to the politicians who always tries to separate people based on language and religion as it is the way they can come to power to rule the people, if people are empowered those politicians are helpless. This is my model for any country. You can see what happened to crafty politicians (helpless) in front of peoples unity. One barrier is that awareness of illiterate people about their own power of democratic society, but we should keep trying in making them aware of their power.

Ultimate Solution to the Tami Issue In the past it had always been the practice of the Power Hungry Politicians. to mislead and or falsely impress on their voters,in their political campaigns, carry in their Manifestos and Speeches, wrongful interpretation of the Tamil Issue. Hence this humble appeal to the political aspirants, to truthfully represent and express themselves, in their manifesto and political speeches during campaigns and literature honest Views and Opinions regarding the Tamil Issue. As far as I know and am of the view ,that the Tamils as the indigenous people of Sri Lanka, are expecting to live and exercise their rights equal to those which their Sinhala Brethrens are enjoying in Sri Lanka and nothing more. Hence the Tamils in order to reach an amicable settlement of peace and prosperity and to avoid lingering Tamil Agitation in Sri Lanka ,are willing to compromise and accept a Federal Constitution in the proposed constitution to be enacted . Federal Constitution ought be distinguished from Unitary Constitution and be Rightly Represented. In this backdrop, my honest and humble request to the JVP/NPP and other parties is to state without fear or favor, their stand on Federal Constitution. The new constitution to be adopted in the New Parliament shall be Federal in Nature. Hence the draft constitution which will be carried forward in political manifesto ,literature,texts and in political speeches and practices ought be without twist and wrongful interpretations. It’s the wrongful and malicious interpretation of the Origin of Sinhala and Tamil cultures which have been the cause for tension between the Sinhala and Tamil communities ,particularly emanating from the Parliament of Sri Lanka. My suggestion is, the government and the volunteer organisations should organise partner schools, partner villages projects.
The Tamil school kids spend a week with Sinhala family and vice versa.
The big conflict is the cultural misunderstanding. This must be eliminated. To that we all need better communication. You cannot change from today to tomorrow. Therefore we need to work hard. This should be started with the school kids…..
I take an example: Imran Khan, the best cricket player of Pakistan said in a political campaign speech that his voters are in the school. After ca 10 years his speech, he became Pakistan Prime Minister.

Excellent discussion Ven Sir and Ramanusha. We must have more similar discussions. In my view the ethnic issue faced by both communities has, till this general election, been based on narratives created and used by political entities on both sides. Going back to Colonial times, the narrative used at the time to give the impression that Tamils were favoured by the British for government jobs, I think Sinhala politicians and some religious and civil society leaders created an artificial chasm between the two communities. Following this, several others were created, with one being more intense than the other. A stand taken by some Tamil politicians that not just the North but the entire East was part of a Tamil homeland, made matters worse and mutual suspicion grew. As both of you said there is an opportunity now to talk to each other in small groups and taken the discussion from there to higher levels.

Actually there’s no problem wrt general public but the problem/ trouble makers are fewer number of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim politicians. For example, before 1977 all communities lived all over the country. Jaffna had many Sinhalese and the south had many Tamils they all lived in peace and harmony. After UNP government’s brutal actions against Tamils in the country things started to change but now everything is changing with the NPP government. Devolution of power should be given only to the people but not to the politicians who always tries to separate people based on language and religion as it is the way they can come to power to rule the people, if people are empowered those politicians are helpless. This is my model for any country. You can see what happened to crafty politicians (helpless) in front of peoples unity. One barrier is that awareness of illiterate people about their own power of democratic society, but we should keep trying in making them aware of their power.

(1) ඵෙණපිණ්ඩූපමං රූපං වෙදනා බුබ්බුළූපමා
මරීචිකූපමා සඤ්ඤා සඞ්ඛාරා කදලූපමා,
මායූපමඤ්ච විඤ්ඤාණං දීපිතා3දිච්චබන්ධුනා.
(1) රූපය පෙණපිඩක් වැන්න, වේදනාව දියබුබුළක් වැන්න, සංඥාව මිරිඟුවක් වැන්න, සංස්කාර කෙසෙල් කඳක් වැන්න, විඥානය මායාවක් වැන්නැ යි ආදිච්චබන්ධු වූ බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ විසින් දක්වන ලදී.
(2) යථා යථා නං1 නිජ්ඣායති2 යොනිසො උපපරික්ඛති,
රිත්තකං තුච්ඡකං හොති යො නං පස්සති යොනිසො.

Ultimate Solution to the Tami Issue
In the past it had always been the practice of the Power Hungry Politicians. to mislead and or falsely impress on their voters,in their political campaigns, carry in their Manifestos and Speeches, wrongful interpretation of the Tamil Issue.
Hence this humble appeal to the political aspirants, to truthfully represent and express themselves, in their manifesto and political speeches during campaigns and literature honest Views and Opinions regarding the Tamil Issue.
As far as I know and am of the view ,that the Tamils as the indigenous people of Sri Lanka, are expecting to live and exercise their rights equal to those which their Sinhala Brethrens are enjoying in Sri Lanka and nothing more.
Hence the Tamils in order to reach an amicable settlement of peace and prosperity and to avoid lingering Tamil Agitation in Sri Lanka ,are willing to compromise and accept a Federal Constitution in the proposed constitution to be enacted .
Federal Constitution ought be distinguished from Unitary Constitution and be Rightly Represented.
In this backdrop, my honest and humble request to the JVP/NPP and other parties is to state without fear or favor, their stand on Federal Constitution.
The new constitution to be adopted in the New Parliament shall be Federal in Nature.
Hence the draft constitution which will be carried forward in political manifesto ,literature,texts and in political speeches and practices ought be without twist and wrongful interpretations.
It’s the wrongful and malicious interpretation of the Origin of Sinhala and Tamil cultures which have been the cause for tension between the Sinhala and Tamil communities ,particularly emanating from the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
Unless and until this decisive tool and practices are addressed and remedied, the ethnic tensions will continue to persist.
May we have your response to my humble request to enable a more robust and equitable Federal Constitution.
