Thank you all SO much for all your advice. I have read through all the comments and it's been SUCH a help! I'm really happy you're enjoying the reno vlogs xxx
Kitchen designer here! Pleeeeease put your extractor fan into a box canopy and paint it either the same colour as your wall or else the same colour as your units. Also put wall lights above your open shelving as it makes that bare space above the shelves look much more intentional
This is great advice. I’m currently looking to get my kitchen re-done but I am useless at design but have an obsession with symmetry. Experts are the way to go!
I was about to comment the same! We have done an identical kitchen in sage green. We were lucky enough to have a chimney breast to knock into, we put our stove and extractor in there... looks so much nicer imo.
You can ask builders to create a faux chimney breast or something like what you've mentioned. Looks much more sleek!
No shade! Loving the reno vlogs. Just a thought really.
Order the brass switches you like anyway, then get some cheap plastic switches for the time being and replace them yourself when they arrive! I'm not into DIY at all, but replacing switches and plug sockets are relatively straightforward 😊
I agree, get the brass switches you want! Although you could also leave it empty until you get those delivered, because the switches still work without any fronts on, you just have to make sure they're out of reach of your child because the wires are exposed. Saves money on getting temporary ones!
Have you ever thought about letting your natural hair color grow out? It's such a popular color that people pay sooo much money for and it grows naturally for you haha.
I think you may regret having open shelving. Most people complain about not having enough storage so having upper cabinets may be a welcome addition. Just my feedback because you asked for it! Good luck!
I agree!! Looking at the design there doesn’t seem enough space for storage, I would definitely get upper cabinets!! We renovated our kitchen and storage space is something you always need more of than less!
Bathroom tip: I also have the towel rack away from the shower, so I just put a single hook next to the shower to put my towel just before showering and put it back on the rack afterwards! Works great 😊
As someone who had open shelves, after 10 years I have now installed wall cupboards in their place. I wish I had them from the beginning now😂😂❤
Those salvage Victorian doors are beautiful! Great find. I agree, TH-cam communities are the best for giving advice, I much prefer longer videos to the short Insta ones.
Hi Tanya, so good to see you back on youtube! Re the kitchen design, I know your designer said that her personal preference was to keep the shelf in the corner cabinet but it is SO much easier to use the space if you get either the carousel or the "pull forward" storage solution. With the shelf you are going to have to put your whole head into the cabinet every time you need something from the back and remove anything in front of what you are looking for! Yes you might loose a small bit of storage, but you will also not use the stuff you but in the back very often if you can't get to them easily.
I wanted to give the same advice!
Yup, that’s exactly what I have to do every time I get pans from my corner cupboard. And have heavy items fall on my head 😅. Get the pull-out.
BIGGEST TIP! If you have the space, which I think you have, go for a deeper countertop! In the Netherlands, 60cm is standard and we went for 70cm. Best decision ever. 🤗
100%!!!!
Goeie tip! Heb ik ook gedaan ❤
Did you also do deeper cupboards/drawers or was the countertop just deeper?
Agreed! We did the same :)
Same in Austria!! Love my 70cm countertop, esp where our induction hob is :)
A blank space on the kitchen wall is very aesthetically pleasing to the eyes but if it's your forever home plus you like to cook. Shelves or beautiful cabinets would be ideal. Trust me those drawers will fill up so quickly and you'll be surprised esp if you do not have a walk in pantry. But if you do it should be alright.
I’m so happy you’re back filming, I’ve watched you for over 10 years. I can’t wait to see how the house comes along! Sending you a big hug!
We're in the process of moving, but haven’t found our next place yet. Feeling a bit sad about saying goodbye to our current home, but this has been comforting reminder of exciting things to come. Thank you x
I just want to say i am so happy your back on youtube, you have always been one of my favourites, and watching you in your new chapter in your life its so exciting, beautiful new home 🏡 you have 🙏🏼xxxxxx
Tanya, I'm so happy you've returned to YT. Absolutely love your vlogs! Would love to see some more fashion content in the future (once home reno has progressed) xx
Loving the Reno updates and as someone who can’t offer advice on the subject, I would just say to keep the updates coming! We got an allotment back at the start of the year and I filmed the process of it from the beginning (empty) and then as time went on and things got hectic I kind of fell out of the routine and WISH I’d kept it up!
It’s so lovely to be able to look back and see how everything came about in detail, so keep the Reno content coming, Tan! 🤍
Kitchen - usually what takes time is the stone/counter top. It needs to be cut, measured after the kitchen base is in place etc. So that's definitely something I would arrange asap, maybe it varies from country to country but for us it took a few weeks to get the countertops after the kitchen was installed.
Love the vlog Tanya, so nice to see you making videos again! One thing I would not recommend is having wood on the floor in a kitchen, we recently had a leak from the washing machine and it's ruined some of the floor. Water and wood do not mix! Perhaps look at some reclaimed brick tiles? Or there are some wood effect tiles that can look good! Good luck with the renovations! X
Hi Tanya your draw on the left that your trying to decide could you not put a full cupboard door to the ceiling with shelves, lots of storage then. 😊
Those old chunky doors are beautiful, i love a house that has that perfect mix of modern & old❤
Really loving how homey and comforting your videos are 🩶 perfect finish to my Sunday 🤍
I’m so excited for you Tan, it’s going to look gorgeous! One thing I’d mention is I regret not putting in an island - they’re SO practical for storage, prep space, and to eat/chat at! xx
Tanya, for future reference, if you look up the model and brand of the fridge you bought on line, it will usually state the full measurements.
Larder cupboard - I’d go for the doors that hide down the side, if that makes sense 😀, everything is coming along nicely
Hi Tanya, what would also look great is if you take the worktop up the wall as a backsplash and finished it off with a shelf made of the same material that extends over the entire wall (below the extractor hood). I would also place wall sconces to the left and right of the extractor hood in the middle above the shelf to decoratively fill the wall and add additional light source above the worktop.
Just order the switches/taps ect.. that you love, these are things not to just settle for! If you have to just reuse the old ones from the house until your new ones arrive, or by the cheapest chrome ones and then swap out when they come... you can actually get this as part of the package with some companies so once your new ones arrive they will take them back off your hands.
Thank you for a great update vlog! I built a house in America years ago, I’m home in the uk now… I would personally do upper cupboards. Uk homes don’t have as much storage space and those upper cupboards will give you the option of storing a lot more. That’s just my personal bit of input having built a home before. Can’t wait to see what you do with your new home ❤
Currently going through a kitchen Reno...i really like the first option for the faux drawer cupboard...it maxamises the space without compromising on the design aesthetic.
Im not sure how you will feel about it but honestly amazon has been a life saver for us! In terms of switches/plugs etc...we also want that antique brass look and have found amazon to be the best in terms of price and times etc. So i would definetly have a little nosey on there, even if you decide there is nothing you want, there may just strike a little win! ❤
I’m enjoying these renovation vlogs.
I HIGHLY recommend not "hiding" drawers behind a solid door/front, because it adds more steps & time to get the items out. My sister's entire kitchen is built like that & it drives me nuts every time I cook there. The most practical is to expose all drawers, even if they won't have the same measurements as the other drawers. Practicality will be worth more than clean lines in your kitchen, trust me!
I've just renovated my whole house. The one lesson I learnt is to take breaks between projects. I had 6 months of constant works and it was an actual nightmare. But so happy it's done now.
Absolutely love the idea with the yellow painted ceiling! It’s going to be such a fun pop of colour without being too overwhelming 💛
As someone who´s worked with designing kitchens, I think you should make the kick plate run all the way along the floor underneath the sink and make the "decor sides" (don´t know the accurate name in english) shorter so they only line up with the cupboard itself and dont go all the way to the floor! :D
Tip for the kitchen: why not loose the gas option and go for induction? A) electric is cheaper and better for the environment b) you only clean a glass top c) it takes a week to get used to it. Trust me, I've been there! ❤
I would completely get rid of the corner unit..just measure to the end of the unit without that square of space that’s in the corner…yes you lose that bit of space but it means that you can get drawers set there..much more practical…realign the cooker wall with all drawer units and at the other end too..lose that cupboard with drawers in it and just have all drawer units…it’ll look more symmetrical. I did this in my kitchen and love it as any corner cupboard is a proper pain so I’ve got all drawer units along my cooker wall and no corners..no uppers either so it’s very similar to your set up. Also put the bin nearer the sink rather than dishwasher.
Open shelving looks great in a kitchen, but we regret ours as everything gets so dusty. And wished we'd gone for cupboards with doors. But if you're only having a few items up on the shelves, it might not be too bothersome. Loving the reno vlogs and can't wait to see more updates 😊
If you are after brass switches and sockets, look at Corston as they are normally available within a couple of weeks. Personally I think they are just as nice as Forbes and Lomax which I presume you were looking at if lead time is 12 weeks! hope that helps xxx (go for the brass though and have plastic in meantime if needed!)
4am in New York and I can’t sleep, so excited to see your upload! Can’t wait to watch! 🥰🙏🏼
I am hour behind and I too am up and glad to see she uploaded a video😊
loving the renovation content tan! thank you for sharing :)
We have had our basement tanked, it really is a game changer for the additional space! I would also recommend if you are doing it to dig a bit lower. It gives you more normal head height and will make the space feel much bigger! xo
I would build an extractor into a box (you can ask your builder/kitchen fitter to fit a canopy extractor into a box made of mdf so it's really cost effective but looks amazing) This can be tiled or painted (defo use Moisture resistant mdf)
You can take your worktop up to below the shelf as a splashback the whole length of the wall with the shelf sat on top. Then wall lights above !
I would personally go for a corner pull out rather than just shelved as it's so much more accessible, if you can fit a lemans style corner pull out rather than carousel that will be even better
In the double larder cupboard could you add an internal drawer set?
Tanya! I just randomly thought of you after many years and looked you up only to find youve been updating again recently. Rude of YT not to put you back on my algo despite still being subscribed but whatever, Im so pleased 😊.
Those old doors are beautiful! Renovating is so exciting, hope it's going well! If you still need taps, Victorian plumbing have really lovely antique brass bathroom fittings. I think they're the chatsworth range. I don't think they have any waiting times either! X
Order the switches and bath fixtures you live regardless of lead times. You are going to be in this house a long time and 4 months isn’t long to wait, it’s worse to settle for something and have to live with it for years.
Fixtures you love not live. Sorry
You will want the bin close to where you prep and chop. Trust me thing through your cooking process to make the flow as easy. Otherwise you will be washing veg dripping water as you take it across to the stove to chop and then have to keep walking across with chopping board. She’s done the ‘triangle’ which is really outdated. Especially as your kitchen is big. Trust me, this is my biggest regret and I have a much narrower kitchen. It’s just so much unnecessary walking back and forth.
I can thoroughly recommend the Rangemaster Classic Deluxe 110 oven, Tanya. Love those doors, isn't it great to have builders you can trust and rely on? Worth their weight in gold! Don't feel too pressurised with all the designing.... small things you can change over time, large things like kitchen drawers vs cupboards, you learn to live with and make work (experience talking here!), after all, it's where you cook and store pans and if something isn't perfect, oh well, it's not life and death and it'll still be a beautiful kitchen. Sometimes you need to check back in with priorities and you soon realise taps etc are way down the list! As someone else suggested just buy really cheap standard ones to have a working bathroom them swap them for the brass ones when available. Loving these vids. You've got this! 💪
Yeah! Someone else who likes a coloured ceiling, now I'm not alone anymore! Don't worry too much about lead times- you're going to live there for a long time. Better to take a bit more time to get it right now, than to have to live with things you don't like or have to fix things in a couple of years' time❤
Drawers are king!!!!! My biggest regret is not enough... Deep drawers are good for pots and pans... But shallow for food bits!!
Hi Tanya! We are currently doing our bathroom and we purchased all our hardware from ABI Interiors! We went for the Kingsley range!
Even if it’s a thin pull out drawer next to the fridge for spices or smaller taller items I would use that space.
Thats such a good idea about making a seasonal to-do list. I should have done this for summer because i completely forgot to go strawberry picking. at least its apple picking season! so nice when having kids make you really give it your all seaoson wise haha
So happy to see you again I’ve been watching for years can you do a vlogmas those where my favorite 😍
As an interior design student, I LOVE this video!!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Try corston architectural for light switches and sockets.
Hey Tanya if you can get away with staying where you’re staying for an extra 2 weeks it will be so much better. The dust is unreal and it can be a bit bonkers living in such a big renovation
I paused the video to leave this comment. DO NOT BUY A SMEG OVEN! I’m a professional oven cleaner. You are paying for the brand. I’ve never been to a SMEG oven that isn’t rusted and rotten. They’re also a nightmare to clean. Most oven cleaners I know charge more if it’s a SMEG.
I second this. Smeg appliances are awful. Neff I feel are much better
Hi, I love these kinds of videos. Thank you so much for sharing your space with us :)
Loving these vlogs.. this house Reno is soo exciting ❤❤ can’t wait to see more, so glad you are back!! 🎉 Gorgeous shirt and bag ❤❤
so lovely to see you back tanya........could you tell us more about what you do now....influencer, actress etc etc x
We have a Wolf oven and a sub-zero fridge/freezer! They’re amazing, highly recommend them 😊
I would send kitchen designer fridge size from the site you purchased. Would you not consider an extra tall cupboard for the one on its own to the left of your cooker. So useful to have storage for large cooking pots, casserole, crockpots, serving dishes etc
We got a Howdens kitchen very similar to yours this year and it’s great! We went for a mid range one but had the base boards/skirtings from the premium range (which looks the same but is painted solid wood) applied to ours and I highly recommend it! Makes the kitchen look way more bespoke ☺️ x
Forget the way the look, no one notices! Think practical! If you utilise drawers!!!! You will not use a lower cupboard. I have all drawers
Just put a hook for your towel at the end of the shower it won’t get wet that’s what we use.
Morning Tanya hope your all well.
I love your videos so much pure comfort on a Sunday morning .
I got your Christmas book out so I can make a start on our yummy food lists (budget friendly)
I love autumn 🍂 x
You need to go to the pelicans sister pub in the Cotswolds, the bull in charlbury it’s just as good!
You look so beautiful on the vlogs Tanya ❤
Just put a hook by your shower. What about a sky blue color with clouds painted on Sage’s ceiling?
Love this update!! One thing came to mind, would you consider a skylight in your wardrobe room?
Catchpole and Rye, Perrin and Rowe, Abode Designs depends on your budget Vado or Tap warehouse good luck :)
Have you thought about a pot tap over the hob?? Literally my dream and saves trips to and from the sink!
You should watch Emma Hills videos on renovations, her home is so calm and organised, she also has some great ikea hacks.
so glad your'e making videos again!!
Pull out drawers in your cabinets. We have them all throughout our kitchen and I LOVE them. Easier to organizer and see what’s there and everything else
Changing switches and sockets is really easy, you could do it without an electrician. Just install cheapest plastic ones to start with and then change them over yourself when the others arrive in 13 weeks!
Watch lonefox’s tutorial for aging shiny brass. If you can get shiny brass in stock right away it might be an option to get the look you want!
Tanya are you having a kitchen island at all? You seem to have a good space for one. I think they break up the empty space in the centre of the room, as well as being practical, if you can put stools along it. Just a thought😁 x
You can just use normal switches/ sockets until the nice ones arrive and swap out the fronts. It's easy to do but if you're not confident wouldn't take an electrician long at all
We haven’t renovated our kitchen as we live in a ground floor flat, we have blue and white tiles so I plan to get tile stickers to put on to them so it looks a bit vintage cottage, we have a galley kitchen x
I would go with the additional drawer options rather than the deep ones because you will be able to organize more separate items❤
I thought the cyclist was totally going to take you out. Oh my, how scary! I’m so glad you’re uploading again, cozy vibes for sure! 😊
Loooove to see these videos! So fun to watch:)
I’d consider some sconce wall lights in the kitchen so you have multiple kitchen lighting options.
A Lacanche oven would look amazing! Quite expensive though but look like a more sophisticated version of a rangemaster
I wish I hadn't installed the hidden drawers, especially for cutlery, which gets used a lot, because after a while, you get tired of always opening and closing two drawers. 😅
About the bathroom, not sure if someone else has mentioned it but get a pretty towel bench and style it :) x
looooove the doors!
Hi Tan so exciting you’re back… are you doing vlogmas? ❤🤞
I think You will really miss the kitchen island. I would add that somewhere. Or it can be even a wooden table raised with joints on the legs. 🤎
Tanya on your iPhone you have a measuring app where you can get your measures
Tanya!!! I haven't watched in years and just got you recommended to me. Hello again 😊
Are the ceilings in the kitchen tall enough to add another layer of floating shelves? With one it just looks a bit bare.
❤ love the vlogs love love love
Tanya, your earrings in this video are so beautiful. Will you share where they are from?
I’m super excited about your renovations! I love watching you and listening to your beautiful British accent. I watched you for years and am so happy you are back! Tanya your skin is amazing, so dewy and porcelain like🍁. Happy Autumn 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁
DeVol for antique brass taps!
Would you not be interested to open up the fireplaces in both those rooms? I’m asking anyway but of course with paint on the walls I have my answer 😂 I presume they do have fireplaces behind those walls.
could you yacht varnish the floors in the bathroom to protect them from water damage?
I converted all of my lower cupboards into drawers a couple years ago and I will never look back.
Victoria Plumbing have lots of anti brass taps, and in stock
