The price of the Sena camera also makes it attractive compared to others. I have been using the original Prism for 9 months with good results. The slider can be tricky. I added an ND filter to mine to reduce over exposure (watch my short video). It is easy to adjust the camera's angle in production if it is not perfect.

Forget about it, I will use my Contour.

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

My Sena only films in 30fps, which is why I have issues with over exposure. At 60fps it will be much better. The improved video quality may be worth giving it a chance.

Thank you for this detailed review, Pavlin. Based on your comments and demonstrations, I think that I'd select the Sena for its visual clarity, but I felt that its sound was too distorted. Maybe adjusting the position or volume would help? However, if it's tricky to use when on the road, then I would have second thoughts. Sometimes, 'adequate quality but simple to use' is the better option.
    Safe roads 👍

I've been using the Tube WiFi for over a year. My observations are. Yes! there are better cameras out there, however quality of footage comes with far higher price. The Tube, (WiFi) unlike the earlier version now records in 1080/60 so image quality is better. The comments about head movement applies to all helmet mounted cameras. If anyone finds it annoying fix it to the bike!. I bought the 'Tube' because I believed it a better option for helmet mounting...it is unobtrusive, doesn't generate as much wind noise as a GoPro type camera either. Buying a less expensive camera than a GoPro then expecting the same performance is ludicrous. It is what it is, performance is consistent with the price one has to pay, indeed the 'Tube' is superior than many other cameras of similar pricing. Regarding the cameras movement whilst switching on/off, I agree with Motorcycle Adventure's comments. Yes! the fix to stop movement is an excellent and unobtrusive 'fix' The stiffness of the switch can be greatly improved by 'squirting' a Very, Very small amount of WD40 in the area, being sure to remove any excess immediately... this will greatly improve the switchability..

Impressive considering the price, and the cylindrical profile has to be the best format, in spite of the quality the go pro is a clumsy helmet camera and a crazy price. Beautiful boots, i know you’ve been after these for a while. I’d better get on and buy that new book of yours to help you pay for them, I know it will be excellent as I loved the first one!

    That is one thorough test.
An impressive piece of kit and if I was looking to buy your review would help a lot.
    But.
Is there a danger that all this kit is interfering with just riding? We live in a world where we are bombarded with calls , texts, emails alerts etch etc.
When I pull my helmet on I cut myself off from all that. It's freedom. I don't even have comms with the good lady on the back. She feels the same too. We take photos but that's it.
Or am I just getting old?
    Happy (peaceful and relaxing) travels

Hey Pavlin .. The other day I watched a video of you with a GoPro on the front of your helmet, Today you are saying you have been using a Contour , which makes sense to me. Smaller more streamlined and compact. NOT a GoPro now you are reviewing a New Sena Camera... I will continue to watch and let you know what I think of your review. ........I listen to everything you say and agree with 90% of your assessment...However you are in Europe and I'm in Canada so much of what you say doesn't really apply here. Nobody is on a bike here now because of "Winter" Although I did ride for two wintersin 75-76 with a sidecar on a big Harley and I am paying for it now with arthritis in my knees. I never thought getting old would come so quickly and last so long.

  • @MotoHolic

WOW, greatly detailed review! Sena was one of my choices when upgrading, but it was too expensive for my budget (even second hand one) so I went with GoPro 3 (it's always about compromise). Also Sena could not be mounted where I like the camera to be - on the chin. It has to be mounted on the side, not a big drawback, but I like the chin view better.
I really liked the video quality, especially the night shot - Sena performed much better then your old camera. Looking forward to some new footage with your new camera.
P.S. As for microphone being too loud, see if you can position it further away from your mouth. I actually stuck mine INSIDE the cheek padding - it is protected from the wind by all the foam around and is completely out of the way and not even visible.

    Hey Pavlin,
I’m in agreement with most people posting here. I wasn’t very impressed with the Sena and my first concern was knocking the camera out of frame when sliding that barrel. I’m an amateur vloger and have been using the Sony in extreme conditions (Enduro dirt bikes) and it has held up very well (I have 2 of them). As someone here suggested, the remote is good for turning it on and off but is limited to battery time. The audio is much better on the Sony, even better than all the recent GoPros. Take a listen to any of my recent videos on my channel to get an idea. I agree with you and wish there was better functionality turning them on and off.

I have one, but not used it much yet. The main drawback is that since you have to disconnect the mic/headphone cable to charge it, you can only record audio while the battery lasts. But for the price of a GoPro, you could almost get two of these and recharge one while using the other!

it seems odd to me, like everybody says, that Sena has better quality than Contour, but if you look at side by side video, you can clearly see, that Contour has much better colour representation and makes much more pleasent video. Sena is so much overshatpen, that it puts much strain to the eyes. If you think that when you see edges, that it meas it has more details, then you are not right. Video from Contour could be so sharp too, if you apply sharpenning on it in some video editor, but you can not bring back colours from Sena, because damage to video is already done when it is recorded.

  • @whitedrguy6503
    @whitedrguy6503 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I own 2 of the Sena tube cameras and find the quality quite good, but I do not use for making movies or TH-cam clips so works good just to record a trip for personal use.
I found the big bonus was the price, that is why I have 2, one I can use and the other sits in my tank bag on charge.
The other bonus is the size of the unit, it is unobtrusive on the side of the helmet and is easy to align by feel alone, just feel the top of the switch is in the middle and the top of the camera is parallel with the ground, once you get used to it it is simple to use.
The one big con as you suggested is the switch is a little stiff but it gets better with time and use.
All in all it is a good simple camera that does a job for not a lot of money, at the end of the day that is what counts for me, bit like the reason I ride a DR 650 and not a KTM 690, they both get you to where you are going but one is half the price of the other.

Good in depth review .. now seen to many negative reviews on this camera and yours has convinced me NOT to buy it , it´s also overpriced for what it can do and there´s to many issues with it when compared to something like the Ghost Drift X which is also cheaper .. I mean a problem like nothing to stop the camera from rotating once its mounted into the holder should just not be an issue at all ..not to mention no image stabilization

Hello Pavlov, it seems to me that the video quality and microphone of the Sena camera is good and I think it's a good bet for your videos to 2+ contour, but above all you decide, continue your videos, embrace of Portugal.

It really amazes me as none of the big manufacturers have been able to come up with a decent motorcycle/helmet action camera. Maybe someone should work with a knowledgeable guy like Pavlin and own the marketplace. I have been looking for one for ages myself, the go pro just isn't suitable.
Someone build a contour style with go pro picture quality for us!!! The nearest I see out there is the Drift ghost X but the picture is not brilliant and there is no remote. The drift 4K was an attempt but everyone appears to have issues with it. We should crowd fund Pavlin to get one produced!
Love the videos Pavlin, keep em coming 👍

I just bought one last month. It filmes at 2K too. You are right about the tricky slide button, but it is a matter of habbit. T start and to stop, I fix the camera with one or two fingers, and use the other fingers to start and stop. One thing that pisses me off is as you say, the time that it takes to start. It's huge! Another think that is really bad the sound from the interl mic. When you want to see the video, you have to turn off the sound bacause its so loud and so bad.
Anyway my friend, if you want a great image like GoPro and have that usability on a helmet, try if not yet, the Garmin Virb Ultra 30.

I use the Sena 30K intercom which is good but not sure about the camera. I do like the voice confirmation because it is hard to know when the camera (gopro or drift) is recording when you cannot see the camera. I have the same boots as you just bought and they are very good but a bit warm and I haven't tried them in any real heat yet. Anyway I hope it works for you Pavlin so you can continue with the fantastic video's.

Hi, Pavlin! As The Contourplus 2 is quite expensive, there are some alternatives by the US radio communication equipment manufacturer Midland. The model line XTC - 280, 310, 400, 450. All support 1080p at 30 fps and are with a big sliding button on top. The downside is they have no audio input, but there are microphones with micro USB for sale. Those cameras are about 200$. What do you think about it? Can you make a review on it?

@@motorcycleadventures the problem is. When riding I can't hear the camera beep when I press the record button. And some times I'm not sure if iv put enough pressure to turn it on when I press the button. So I'm always 2nd guessing if it's on or off..
But up to now iv not missed a moment when I press the button and the cam has not turned on.

However the Sena is brighter and having more details, that fish eye effect killed the joy. I really enjoy your videos. I understand your point that you don't like GoPro. I'm just sad that using a GoPro would increase the quality of your videos tremendously. But on the other side use what you like, because in your vids the content is more important than the quality. Check out Smartremote for GoPro. It may change your mind 😉

Quality mean nothing when you don't have the footage. GoPro are terrible for helmet cam, unless you are not plan to shoot 30 min short clip. To use a mic you need big adapter and the audio is not working every time. Remote makes the battery life even shorter. Forget about it.

    Hi, Pavlin!
Good comparison of the cameras. Definitely there are differences. I honestly will share my view here, hope it will support improvement of your videos. Regarding Sena - personally I don't like the hard switching on the camera and the long waiting until it really starts, fully agree with you about the reasons. The fish-eye effect is some kind of disadvantage, but it is fully acceptable and normal picture for recording on the move. The low light sensitivity of Sena is better, but how many times you will record during the night? This advantage is slighting I think. The bigger disadvantage of Sena camera for me is the luck of video stabilisation! It is better than Contour, but still. When I look your videos, after a period of time the video becomes a bit boring because of the constant moving. At the end it is an action camera and it is supposed to record movement! Which means action cameras definitely should have video stabilisation!
My recommendation to you (if you consider GoPro) - there are models with voice command. You don't need to touch anything to switch on and off different modes. In addition to small and compact camera's size, high video quality, video stabilisation and many more. For example I use GoPro Session Hero 5.
    Ride safe!

Hi Ivo, I have Hero 5. It is great camera to use when you walk around. I tried to have it as a helmet camera, but it is impossible. At least for me. I will stick with the Contour until I find something better, but definitely no GoPro and forget about the voice commands, remote and many other. I need simple, one button camera.

I had Previous model without WiFi, Desing , size and even quality was good enough to record trip in case of accident. But not defenetly good for some presentation.
Big Cons is price, life of usage of this camera is seriously tight up with unremovable battery which could be a year. (mine died after 3 months).
Another con is that camera can not be charged during recording + previous version was limited by 32G cards.

In no way this is better quality than the contour! also the mic quality is worse (better light, but far worse pixels, looks like nintendo). Outside the building, when you move the head, you can clearly see it reacts very bad on movement. It's not even a comparison. I would still say go for GoPro, connect it directly to your motorcycle (power), and you can use the voice command to turn it on/off, or take pictures. If you want to check if it's recording, you can always look in the mirrors, and see the red dot blinking.
Whatever you decide, please don't use this one! But definitely, you need a new camera. Last trip in Asia, there were some amazing sights, but the camera ruined them :( The videos vs. the pictures you showed at the end of the video, is ages different! Pics look breath-taking, while in the video, it's just normal.
    Best of luck!
