The little German girl is holding a "cone" on her first day of school. It would contain gifts and school supplies. I don't recall what the one is called but it was a common practice.

@@mdcgbg No problem. I also looked up the "Cabbage you myself" phrase, which is an old idiom that probably means "grab onto." There are other meanings, but that one makes the most sense.
