You must listen to their MTV unplugged performance of this song. Its absolutely incredible. Check out how many views it has. Even if it’s on your own time; it’s something you should experience.
Agree 100 with this comment! In fact, react to the entire MTV unplugged songs and I can guarantee you, you will be blown away! Great reaction nonetheless!
Please react to the MTV Unplugged version!! Seeing Eddie Vedder sing this will blow you away. This is a true song Eddie wrote about his first love. Eddie has shared that it's the hard one because is a "true love but one you can never have forever." Eddie VERY VERY much tried to keep this song from becoming a hit. That's why there is no video.
The singer EDDIE VEDDER wrote this song on his trip from California to Seattle as he was moving there to join/ form Pearl Jam as a young man. YES, it’s a love/ broken heart song- presumably about someone he was leaving behind in California. SO moving.
Always wanted someone to watch this with the lyrics on the screen, but now that I’ve seen it I think you need to see him sing. So much more written on his face than in the lyrics. One of the best songs ever.
Their songs Evenflow, Better Man, Alive and Jeremy. Temple of the Dog: Say Hello to Heaven and Hunger Strike Radiohead: Creep Nine Inch Nails: Closer and Hurt Tool: Sober and The Pot Alice In Chains: Would and Man in the Box
After the release of Ten, Eddie was hiking when he heard a group of hikers singing Black. He approached them wildly and told them they should not be singing a song about his pain, that those words were his words, not theirs. They were thoroughly confused while also being thrilled to 'meet' him. 🤪 Thankfully he soon got over hearing people sing his songs. lol
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, but why Why, why can't it be, oh can't it be mine?" Gets me every time I hear this song. The whole song is bittersweet and heartbreaking. Ty for the reactions!
In 1991-1992 Eddie Vedder, with Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell with Soundgarden, and Kurt Cobain changed the way we heard vocals. Eddie's voice is unique and preacher like, Cornell was power from the thunder, and Cobain was the lightning. It was amazing to be young at the time and feel this and see many of these people live. This is Pearl Jams original Opus. YELLOW LEDBEDDER< NOT FOR YOU, and OCEANS are a few more classics from Pearl Jam.
Black is a song about a man devastated by the end of a love affair. It is emotionally and lyrically brilliant. Verse 1: He describes that all he taught her was everything, but he knows she gave him all that she wore. He is the naïve one. He did NOT teach her everything, she played him by being a character - she gave him her “costume”. Verse 2 describes his inability to enjoy life because she’s gone. The final verse (which Eddie drags out so emotionally that many miss the narrative), tells you that she is very much alive. Essentially, he sings, “I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be a star in someone else’s sky. But why can’t it be mine?”. The best part of the song, and many people I know miss it.
The live unplugged version is even more emotional then this version. You can feel and see his heartache, his pain, his sorrow. Eddie Vedder has a extremely distinctive voice and conveys emotion in his music. Jeremy is a crazy song about a true story Eddie read in a newspaper.
You need to react to the LIVE version of this song from MTV Unplugged in 1992, which to this day in 2021 remains possibly the best concert ever televised on live TV.
Probably my favorite song of all time! So glad you guys decided to react to it. Like others have mentioned in the comments you should react to the live version on MTV unplugged. It’s mesmerizing!
Classic!! This song reminds me so much of the 90's..you couldn't walk into a bar without hearing this. Eddie's voice is incredible. Thank's for your reaction, enjoyed it.🤘😎
Lead singer is Eddie Vedder EVEN FLOW or JEREMY from their first album, the two songs that hooked me on Pearl Jam SOUNDGARDEN = Another amazing voice in Chris Cornell RIP, you will love his voice ALICE IN CHAINS = Layne Staley RIP another iconic voice you will also love
You should watch Freddie and Brian perform Love of my life at Wembley in 1986. There are no words to describe how incredible Freddie’s voice when he sang this song. 100% recommend you watch him sing love of my life at Wembley in 1986.
To get the full impact of Eddie Vetter's emotion signing this song check out the MTV Unplugged version. Chills every time. btw, like your new background.
YOU THINK YOU FELT IT HERE??? Just WAIT! WAIT UNTIL YOU WATCH THE MTV UNPLUGGED LIVE PERFORMANCE OF IT! OMG!!!!! MUST! MUST! MUST!REACT TO THEIR MTV UNPLUGGED VERSION NOW- ITS A RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE!!!!! PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
oh, man- you guys are picking some good ones! absolutely worth taking a look/listen to the mtv unplugged live version- incredibly intense and one of the most viewed vids on YT.
Noooo... finally Pearl Jam! I.AM.HAPPY!!!! Thanks 😘 React to "Porch" at PinkPop '92 (incedible stagedive) and "State of Love and Trust" MTV Unplugged. You have to see Eddie live!
This is grunge. Every cut on this album is great. You should listen to the band Alice in Chains also. I suggest these songs: Rooster, Would?, I Stay Away, Nutshell.
Guys, the music in this is so dam good. My mind only wants to listen to the sound, maybe later I will listen to the words.👍👍😎😎. I luv y'all's reactions. 😘😘
I will never forget the exact moment I heard Pearl Jam for the first time. I was an immediate fan and still am. I was 13 and riding to the lake with my friend in the back of her mom’s truck. She had her Pearl Jam cassette in her jam box. I still remember it like it was yesterday, that’s how much of an impact they’ve made on me. Garden is my ring tone and a fantastic song, Jeremy, Even Flow, Immortality... I could go on all day. Y’all should totally check out Alice In Chains as well, another 90’s grunge band.
First of all: you should check out live version from Mtv Unplugged, everybody telling you that, believe us. Second: if you are interested of Pearl Jam you should listen to Garden, Release me, Jeremy, Nothing as it seams or "Porch" live from Pinkpop festival. And in the end- so you finally dig in grunge... Great! This is my second favourite genre of music. Must listen is: Alice in Chains: Down in a hole, Man in the box, Rooster, and live version of Love Hate Love (from Moore '91), Blead the freak (from Moore' 91) and Nutshell from Mtv Unplugged. Soundgarden song: Slaves and Buldogers, Black hole sun, Jesus Christ Pose, Bkack Rain, Beyond the Wheel. Thanks😌
Thank you for doing the studio version. Everybody has done a reaction to the MTV live version. I wanted to see some reactions to this polished version for once and you two didn't disappoint.
Powerfull song. Awesome guys. Thanks for that experience, it's been a long time since I didn't listen to that song. I enjoyed it like the first time I heard it
If you heard any of The Doors, Jim Morrison and Eddie Vedders voices are very similar. Almost poetic in style. Pearl Jam still record music 30 years after their debut. That whole debut, Ten is almost an instant classic of the 90s. If you want more Pearl jam, check out Jeremy( prefer the video), even flow and Alive. Great band.
Yes. He did a stellar job, and I think that performance made people take notice of Eddie. Sad to say, he's the only living voice for the mainstream grunge era to still be around. Layne, Kurt,Cornell and Weiland are all gone.
Pearl Jam is a great band, Eddie Vedder's voice is incredible..I really recommend to listen to their song "Jeremy" but you must watch the offical video with it as well
@@j.h.3777 the UNCENSORED video...... VERY important to get the whole picture..... based mostly on a true event.... Jeremy Wade Dell who shot himself in front of his class..... it effected Eddie GREATLY when he read about it.
One of my all time favorite songs with the most poetic line ever written. Check out the song Jeremy, with the un-censored video, for an eye opening experience
Eddie wrote this early on though. I think the Neil Young influence came in full speed at bit later. Stone Gossard wrote the music here. Eddie did the lyrics on his way up to Seattle.
You should react to Nirvana "all apologize" at Mtv Unplugged, to Alice in Chains "down in a hole", Soundgaden "black hole sun", Hole "petals", The Smashing Pumpkins "Zero"...
Pearl Jam has survived for 30 years now. They are still going strong or would be if things were different right now. They were lucky and talented enough to be successful from the start which has allowed them to be experimental, genre shifting and sometimes just weird when they want to be. All of Mtv unplugged is incredible and they were not treated very well so that makes the performance more interesting if you think about it. 😁
Pearl Jam Ten album was FLAMES! You could listen to it from start to finish. If you want to be shocked, wath the Jeremy video. Haunting video but a good song.
Jeff Ament's bass lines are so much a part of the mood of this song. If the entire philosophy of stoicism could be condensed into a sound, it would sound like Jeff's bass in this song. Probably Jeff's best work. This song couldn't stand without that bass.
Dude you guys gotta check out Hunger strike by Temple of the Dogs. It's Eddie and the late Cris Cornell. Incredible vocals and song all together. Nice job!
My absolute number one song together with “Fade to Black” by Metallica and “Somebody to Love” by Queen. A critical note... you should have picked the live version from Mtv unplugged... Just sayin’...
Check out their live MTV Unplugged performance of this song. Eddie Vedder is a class all his own, he just oozes emotion and you can see the visual of what I think you are getting at. Plus it's an awesome performance!! ❤👍🏼 Enjoy your channel! 👍🏼
Same theme as Rolling Stones "Paint it Black" (depressed because of events in life-girl gone), and being angry because others are happy and having fun. But Pearl Jam is way more poetic and emotional than the Stones; a much darker sound.
If y’all’s like Pearl Jam please look into soundgarden Chris Cornell has this voice that you think he has reached his limit and he just keeps pushing. It’s incredible
Hi am a subscriber and live in Scotland. Got some options for songs - 1. QAL - who wants to live forever live at Isle of Wight 2. Gary Moore - still got the blues live 3. Great song. Great album! Pick a song they are all good. You could try Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog and hear Chris and Eddie together. I am sure you will eventually get to Alice In Chains and Layne Staley who is my number one vocalist. You will feel his soul when you hear him believe me.
Good. Now take life version "Live at the garden (2005)". Better version - and a much, much better guitarsolo. But Black is one of the best 5 songs ever made.
I wish you guys would do "Barracuda" and "Alone" by Heart (the band who did the Stairway to Heaven cover, also from Seattle and good friends with Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains)...they are quite good and some of their material is quite hard.

I think the gift to us from artists is to let us feel what they feel. Don't even have to understand the lyrics because his voice says it all.
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life

Great suggestion. I was a huge fan of Neil in the 70's. There is a 2016 remastered version of like a hurricane which is pretty awesome.
