A person can only deal with so much before he snapped. People are living off of you all around, and you have to care about their burden. While you stressed out, they living stress free. NYS needs to start looking into these cases and put laws on the books to help the landlord get rid of these free loaders. I had tenants who wouldn't pay their rent, but they bought TV bigger than mine, drove cars, and wear clothing I couldn't afford because I had to work 2 jobs to pay the mortgage. Because of this, I missed so many milestones in my children's lives.

My husband was in the same situation just two months ago. And he was stressed over that situation. I was the one who comfort him and advised him just to hold on it will end one day. The court system is to be blamed for these situations .even when we evict them them the court continued to give more time every time we go to a hearing. But i stood by my husband in every way I could. I attended every court hearing. So sad to hear this. But it brings back memories.. thanks God we are over with it . And we pledge ourselves never to have any thing to do Tennants again.
As a home owner in NYC been through something similar. The young lady,boyfriend and children didn't pay rent for a year. By the time the court evicted her I developed high blood pressure and lost a years rent. During that year she called she made my life a living hell calling every department of the city on me. I would come home from work with either the fire department, police, department of health or any agency she thought of that day waiting for me. Tennant s get away with a lot in NYC. They should be jailed when their complaints are false. Going after her to recoup the rent was not worth it as these people knows how to play the system.
It is good they were finally evicted. I had a place I could have rented but left it vacant for a year cause I feared having tenants who would not pay. I've snapped once before and knows where the mind takes you. Not a good feeling.

I also feel it for the Jamaican man who was triggered by the tainting of his woman who should be there for him🤷🏾♀️, I wish he was able to control the trigger 😒. To be a landlord, it's not easy having someone living in your home. And you're paying for everything and they're living free, yeah. I look at this story from all different angles.🦋🙏🏾
I don't think his heritage have nothing to do with his actions. Residing in North America and consolidating ones expenses can be challenging. He was a success story but didn't have the positive supports to assist him through this dark phase of his life. I hope he can have the mental health assessment and justice prevails. May the victims rest in peace.

We went through the same thing for almost two years. The Landlord and Tenant Court would give them all kind of breaks. They would come to court with pictures of peeling paint, holes in the walls, broken toilet, damage they did to bolster their case. as soon as the issues were repaired, they would break everything all over again. They got a court appointed attorney, while we had to pay thousands in legal fees. They disrespected us on every level. Finally, the judge came to his freaking senses after two years of harassment, and non payment of rent. They just walked away. YOU COULD BE LIVING IN THE GARBAGE DUMP AND I HAVE A TEN BEDROOM HOUSE YOU WILL NOT BE RENTING FROM ME NOT EVEN RELATIVES.
Going through same now 2 yrs. These tenants play the system. Developed high blood pressure. Anxiety attacks. How much longer the system going to kill landlords. Taxes, mortgage, heat, water and on going maintenance. How much longer they expect a human being to go through this.
Today was the 3rd court eviction. Nothing happened. They are still in the apt. Any lawyers out there will to do a class action suit against the state. Am on board.

I feel bad for him. I had a house around the corner from this place. I sold my home and left NY due to tenants not paying . I have several home owning friends that found themselves in financial jeopardy due to the biased landlord tenant laws that allow deadbeats to sit in people’s homes and not pay. These laws create the perfect storm for someone to snap.

They can not owe anyone else . I saw a man has to sell his house because tenants decided not to pay any rent , what they are doing is save up their money to buy their own house while living free in someone's else house.

How could he avoid these low life people not paying him rent? The court system in NYC is a joke and always give tenants break. I live in laureton for 17yrs then bought my house in Jersey. I wanted a 2 family in Queens and my husband said hell no. He's not dealing with no tenant.
Time for all landlords going through this problem get together and start some kind of class action law suit. Doing my research. Going through same two yrs now. Had to go back to work after years of retirement. Had to begin taking BP and anxiety meds. This has to stop. The system should be on charges.

Low life people often move into basement apartments in NYC, knowing these apartments are illegal, pay a few months rent then stop paying. These basement Tennants know that the landlords will have a hard time getting them evicted because the apartments are illegal. Everyone all around was taking advantage of the landlord. And this is the end result for all those free loaders including his girlfriend.
My friend living in Bronx NY has the same problem with a Jamaican family living in her hose and haven't paid any rent fo 7mths The matter is now in court to get them out The hurtful thing is they laugh in her face and treats like she's a nobody A house she's bought and paid working as a nurse for 40 yrs and now she having to be battling with these people together them out of her property

He didnt runaway he snapped he had enough. As a landlord myself my heart went straight out to him, because who feels it knows it, i am going through the same thing. U know how many landlords have that feelings sometimes for what the tenants put them through as far as not paying rent. Like i said before the judges the court system is the cause of this, bcuz if u take the tenant to court bcuz they owe 4 months rent the judge give them another 4 months to live free, and then they go back to court saying they need more time my poor friend died bcuz of tenants all the tricks they did, keep calling the city on her that something wrong with electrical wire bcuz they dont want to pay rent when my friend go and fix the wires. Soon as she drive away, they pull the cord out again, and call the city again saying they wont fix the wires, and i could go on and on, believe me i had my share and still dealing with it dont know when this is going to be over

We don't know what this life story is , what he been through to own his own house and for someone to come talking garbage to him, but I wish he had taken another way the legal way. Very very unfortunate for all involved.
It’s sad that the system fails property owners who work hard build a better life for themselves & their family. Hopefully he get a good lawyer and someone on the jury is willing to nullify the case.
We don't really know if the system failed him. There was no mention of him reporting this to higher authorities to get the tenants out of the house. If he had done this n received no or little support, then we can say the system failed him. He should have reached out to local authorities/ councils/ parish support much earlier.

A couple years ago, a guy in Brooklyn killed his roommate over unpaid rent. He was American. It doesn’t matter where you are from. People are people with feelings and anyone can snap, please!

Having squatters living in your house, working and not paying rent will make you either snap or put you in the hospital. Landlords has to pay mortgage. If you cannot pay the bank they will take your house. I understand New York just pass a law that the tenant can stay in your home not paying for a year, then go to court and the judge can also gives them another year rent free. ONLY IN NEW YORK. From what I heard this doesn’t happen in Long Island and other States. You cannot change the locks or do nothing to them. You just have to wait it out with the courts. Another thing you also have to be careful with the Lawyer you choose. Some of these lawyers are CROOKS. They will take your money and don’t serve the Eviction notice and give you the run around. Go through Bar Association where they can be reported and don’t be afraid to call 7 On Your Side and out them ass up on social medias. My Prayers goes up for Mr. D , I feel your pain. It’s a pity he didn’t let the law takes its course.
While serving in the U.S. Marines back in the 80s, I had the opportunity to participate voluntarily in a POW training exercise as an SNCO monitor and controller .This exercise evolved both military and professional government personnel. One thing I had learned from that experience that I will never forget. " Anything and anyone can be made to snap. All it takes is the right amount of pressure. Don't ever think or allow anyone to convince you that they or anyone else could never harm a fly, the truth in this matter is if their flesh and bone thanvyes they can, even sweet dear grandma.. . This landlord may have been a good man with a good heart, trying To live the right type of life and do right by others. NYC govt needs to get sued. They are the reason this happened. They are forcing people to live together who shouldn't be living together and then forcing one person--the owner--to foot the bill for every person living in the house via their landlord tenant laws and a court system that takes years to evict. It is easy to judge after the fact but that constant nagging and being put down all the time can push a brother the wrong way. We men need to realize that we must depend on ourselves to secure our happiness and mental health. We need to manage our mental well being. Sometimes we depend on others for our happiness and they abuse that privilege because they are human.
I am going through this I have 3 grown man that's working and no rent. For 2 years and they are even laughing in my face they should free him it's so much some people can take the courts is on there side because the shelters are booked

No matter how angry you are be careful with your words. Words are cheap but it may cost you your life- loose lips sinks ships. And if two cannot get along it is best to seperate.
1) Be careful who you bring into your home and your life. My mother keeps saying she wants to rent out her downstairs because shes so "follow-fashion" and I keep telling her be careful who you bring into your house. Because some tenants will make your life hell. Just because they look decent and act quiet doesn't mean they don't have within them to obliterate you.

My condolences to your family but let me ask you this, did you tell the NY times, CNN, Fox News and MSNBC or any major news entity to give your family privacy? We discuss what is already broadcasted PUBLICLY by major news entities so I don't see how that is taking away from your family's privacy. As a home owner in NYC been through something similar. The young lady,boyfriend and children didn't pay rent for a year. By the time the court evicted her I developed high blood pressure and lost a years rent. During that year she called she made my life a living hell calling every department of the city on me. I would come home from work with either the fire department, police, department of health or any agency she thought of that day waiting for me. Tennant s get away with a lot in NYC. They should be jailed when their complaints are false. Going after her to recoup the rent was not worth it as these people knows how to play the system.

I don't think his heritage have nothing to do with his actions. Residing in North America and consolidating ones expenses can be challenging. He was a success story but didn't have the positive supports to assist him through this dark phase of his life. I hope he can have the mental health assessment and justice prevails. We went through the same thing for almost two years. The Landlord and Tenant Court would give them all kind of breaks. They would come to court with pictures of peeling paint, holes in the walls, broken toilet, damage they did to bolster their case. as soon as the issues were repaired, they would break everything all over again. They got a court appointed attorney, while we had to pay thousands in legal fees. They disrespected us on every level. Finally, the judge came to his freaking senses after two years of harassment, and non payment of rent. They just walked away. YOU COULD BE LIVING IN THE GARBAGE DUMP AND I HAVE A TEN BEDROOM HOUSE YOU WILL NOT BE RENTING FROM ME NOT EVEN RELATIVES.

I have several home owning friends that found themselves in financial jeopardy due to the biased landlord tenant laws that allow deadbeats to sit in people’s homes and not pay. These laws create the perfect storm for someone to snap.

I’m a 68 year old NYC landlord of Jamaican decent since age 21…I have seen it all. I should actually write a book that would read like fiction. Please current and future landlords you must apply all the legal vetting tools at your deposal. Consider LLC’s and living trust to safeguard your assets.

He didnt runaway he snapped he had enough. As a landlord myself my heart went straight out to him, because who feels it knows it, i am going through the same thing. U know how many landlords have that feelings sometimes for what the tenants put them through as far as not paying rent. Dosent have anything to do with jamaicans, my friend is going through same thing and theyre not jamaicans. Like i said before the judges the court system is the cause of this, bcuz if u take the tenant to court bcuz they owe 4 months rent the judge give them another 4 months to live free, and then they go back to court saying they need more time my poor friend died bcuz of tenants all the tricks they did, keep calling the city on her that something wrong with electrical wire bcuz they dont want to pay rent when my friend go and fix the wires. Soon as she drive away, they pull the cord out again, and call the city again saying they wont fix the wires, and i could go on and on, believe me i had my share and still dealing with it dont know when this is going to be over

We don't really know if the system failed him. There was no mention of him reporting this to higher authorities to get the tenants out of the house. If he had done this n received no or little support, then we can say the system failed him. He should have reached out to local authorities/ councils/ parish support much earlier.

Having squatters living in your house, working and not paying rent will make you either snap or put you in the hospital. Landlords has to pay mortgage. If you cannot pay the bank they will take your house. I understand New York just pass a law that the tenant can stay in your home not paying for a year, then go to court and the judge can also gives them another year rent free. ONLY IN NEW YORK. From what I heard this doesn’t happen in Long Island and other States. You cannot change the locks or do nothing to them. You just have to wait it out with the courts. Another thing you also have to be careful with the Lawyer you choose. Some of these lawyers are CROOKS. They will take your money and don’t serve the Eviction notice and give you the run around. Go through Bar Association where they can be reported and don’t be afraid to call 7 On Your Side and out them ass up on social medias. My Prayers goes up for Mr. D , I feel your pain. It’s a pity he didn’t let the law takes its course.

One thing I had learned from that experience that I will never forget. " Anything and anyone can be made to snap. All it takes is the right amount of pressure. Don't ever think or allow anyone to convince you that they or anyone else could never harm a fly, the truth in this matter is if their flesh and bone thanvyes they can, even sweet dear grandma.. . This landlord may have been a good man with a good heart, trying To live the right type of life and do right by others. Here's the problem👉🏿 There are others that interfered with his good nature and force him to become insensitive and reckless like themselves. I may be mistake because I' m not perfect. But it appears to me they got what they pushed for without ever expecting it to come. Regardless of race, nationality, or culture, sometimes we as human beings take full advantage of others, aware that we all are vulnerable to one another.

NYC govt needs to get sued. They are the reason this happened. They are forcing people to live together who shouldn't be living together and then forcing one person--the owner--to foot the bill for every person living in the house via their landlord tenant laws and a court system that takes years to evict. Who can withstand that kind of pressure? Who?
It is easy to judge after the fact but that constant nagging and being put down all the time can push a brother the wrong way. We men need to realize that we must depend on ourselves to secure our happiness and mental health. We need to manage our mental well being. Because some tenants will make your life hell. Look how decent the man looked now all his hard work is down the drain because people pushed him over the edge.

Heart felt condolences to all the victims involved it is awfully sad that the landlord snapped which causes him to ruin all those lives including his own in reality he probably regrets every moment of his actions
