@Dr Moriarty The tow rope is attached to the top of the tube as shown, then the loose end of the rope is attached to a pilot activated emergency release above the tail wheel. This forms a v-shaped bridle which goes through a steel ring on the end of the tow rope. The release also allows the tow rope to be released before landing so as to not drag the rope over obstacles at the risk of getting snagged.You may not have noticed that it is braced by two cables half way to the top of the strut.
