The Samurai was actually a damn cool car. The only reason people think it's not is because of a smear campaign initiated by GM because it was out-selling their cars so they falsified some testing to prove the car was "dangerous". You can actually look up the footage of the testing where they had to attach weights to the car to get it to flip like they claimed it would do on it's own.
Consumer Reports did it, but yeah it’s true My buddy has an ‘87 with a tachometer on it (which is apparently rare) and it’s a fun car to drive around Nevada’s trails
The hilarious thing about this to me is I lived in Arizona when I was a teen and in my early 20s, I partied and drank energy drinks and wanted a Suzuki Samurai LMFAO
A Suzuki Samurai was the first car I ever drove. One of our neighbors had one to drive around his property and for hunting. It was very old and run down so you could mistreat it without remorse. Fun memories.
Yes! Funny story, I saw 4 Indian dudes get out of a Gyspy at the beach and go over to the ocean and take a dump all next to one another. I looked at my mate in shock and horror. It was then I learned open defecation is rampant in India. The dudes finished their dump got back in the Gypsy and drove away like bandits.
Good offroader come from Suzuki, I've got a Vitara jlx and It goes everywhere. I think people from USA like bigger offroader, too heavy, cars for rappers and not for off-road
Really depends on the terrain. You wouldn't take a rock crawler from Arizona to a mudbog or a tractor pull in Georgia. Different trucks have different specs.
TG mag took a Panda 4x4 out with some Land Rovers, could do everything they could do and the much lighter weight had it's advantages in a lot of areas. Being a Fiat it was also probably every bit as unreliable as a Land Rover! The Suzuki off-roaders are cool and have Suzuki's deserved reputation for reliability too. The new Jimny looks really nice.
Scooby: Rhaggy! Rook! Our rold ruck! Shaggy: Zoinks! Like, you're right, Scoob! It is our old truck! Scrappy: What's Peter doing with her?! Shaggy: I don't know, but we, like, gotta get her back!
It's only considered garbage in the states because a magazine known as Consumer Reports did a safety test where they deliberately tried to roll it over. Suzuki sued them for defamation but the reputational damage was already done. CR could have easily done the same test with a Jeep and that car would be deemed "unsafe" as well. Maybe the Jeep company paid the magazine to eliminate their competitors, who knows?
For those saying the Samurai was actually good, maybe it was but the U.S. version, the Geo Tracker was nothing but a cheap piece of crap. My first wife insisted on buying one back in the early 90s. After I test drove it, I tried to convince her on practically ANY other car. While they first came out around $10K, they quickly jacked up the price to $15 and I'd told her that for a few thousand more we could get a Wrangler. Nope, she had to have the Tracker. Poorly built, unstable, piece of crap not worth the money.

2dr first gen Kia Sportage models also. Unironically capable little machines if just a bit heavy because they had full truck frames.
