Mileage comparison with manual please
1. Intension sensor is in gear gate. not on leaver..
2. Creep function is actually half clutch(it will heat up).. dont use it in traffic.. always apply light accelerator to remove creep mode.

Do you mean, the sensor will be active not while holding the gear, rather when you apply force over the gear to change?

@@rules436 Thanks for your reply. I am a guy who rest my hand over the gear in traffic (because, we may not know if we are going to reduce the gear in the ongoing traffic).
Not sute, if my habit to be changed, when I drive an iMT. I too thought that the sensor will NOT be activated when I just keep my hand on the gear, as that would be a wrong design on many aspects.

My dad brought Jive 10 years back it ran over 1.30L km and it's still running.... I can say semi automatic is kinda reliable 😂

I am proud owner of Seltos HTK+ Diesel iMT bought few months back. I have driven 4000+ Km’s so far..want to share my experience.
I have driven both in city and long trip once and I enjoy driving Seltos iMT never find any minor issues and drawback till date. Most refined CRDI 1.5 L diesel engine is a gem to drive especially cruising in highway.. I had many doubts while buying this machine and all of them were clarified by sales team. Took multiple test drives before taking my decision. Asir bro nailed it overall clarifying all queries in mind of common people.
Regarding mileage I get 12-14km/Litre average in city usage (Chennai) and got 22+Km/litre when I driven long journeys like Yercaud etc.. also depends how you drive soft foot or hard foot.. you need to mind RPM and need to shift gears as per speed and avoid frequent unwanted braking.
Compared to creta I recommend Seltos where both share same platform and engine except minor cosmetic changes.. and you save 1.5L to 2L if we go with Seltos.
I enjoy my driving every single day and he never disappointed at anytime.

P.S: I can see more people raise concerns on diesel ban. As per my experience and knowledge I can say government can’t stop diesel engine cars atleast for next 10 yrs but they try to impose stringent policy changes on manufacturers to reduce pollution and increase fuel efficiency. Even if government ban diesel after 7-10 yrs it will be applicable only for newly manufactured cars not for existing bought cars years ago. In such case car manufacturers will be informed 6 months - 1 year in prior t prepare and plan for this ban so that they will stop manufacturing diesel machines. It’s is not possible to ban in one night.

Kia completely changed to iMT instead of Manual because most of its buyers prefer iMT.
Most people love its comfort and your control over gear change and overtake.
Drive it completely like a normal manual transmission, just clutch action will be taken care by the system.
How is the reliability of imt?
Have booked the iMT, Seltos. Now Kia only seems to be having the best combination of Diesel, with iMT. CRETA unfortunately have only automatic which is way over budget. This video gives me a greater confidence. Thank you
Definitely worth buying Seltos iMT diesel
In 2021, i did not buy seltos because of iMT and end up bought my Other choice (nexon XZ+ petrol).
During 2021, IMO iMT was too early to trust for next 10+ years of usage.
I may consider iMT during my next car purchase if plan to go Kia

2. Gearbox heating issue if anything
3. Diesel ban news ( personally expected as i am waiting for my iMT diesel sonet delivery, booked after MW consultation)..

No issues in iMT for three strong years
It is just an idea by research team. It is impossible to implement that atleast for another 15+ years
IMT petrol has a heating issue, when checked with the dealer as long as there's no warning in the cluster , it's fine.
I had severe ligament tear in my left leg knee. Fitted this IMT system in my ford ecosport diesel ( externally fitted). Its so convenient and practical.

I believe this is a fair trade off between an AT and Manual transmission. Hyundai already has onboard diagnostics to view the clutch wear on its DCT gear boxes. So I think it should be available for an iMT as well and might give more insights on how reliable these gear boxes are in the long run. But - For a superior driving experience, the torque converter is one of the best in their line up. For reasonable control, TC gearbox as everyone knows, manual mode is always present. My choice would still be the superior Torque converter AT from kia/hyundai lineup. To me, this iMT is neither here nor there and weird gearbox choices never took off in India. Examples are abundant in two wheeler market(honda street, TVS Jive as reviewer pointed out).
Appreciate your opinion about TC. If it doesn't took off, why Kia completely changed to iMT instead of manual. Because it made sense to most of its buyers. Try it out yourself.
Agreed. I’ve been driving for last 14+ years manual gearbox and now I think I can trade of manual for imt after owning one for last 8 months. Absolutely it behaves exactly like manual on the road. You try it yourself and can think about it.

iMT has disadvantages..
Issue in TCU can make car unsuable unlike manual, u need to tow the car then..
Cost wise may not be much difference .. just the risk of stranded.. (same applies to all automatic too).
TC is good in terms of relaibility, but its not economical..
It has high service cost every 40k and it has power loss ..due to TC nature..

First of all every transmission can have any issues any time. Manual is not golden buddy. It is not like if any issue in gearbox automatic and iMT will leave us helpless and wait for tow truck, but for manual you can take some tool and dab here and dab there, manual is good set to go. Not like that. Every issues is based on its severity. Manual also can leave you stranded. And please don't say manual is easily repairable by local mechanic, tired of hearing this since even the automatic were introduced in India.

I own a petrol seletos IMT it has an excellent response on city and gives a great mileage on driving in highways with 17kmpl…on city normal driving is 11-12 kmpl but No lags..beautiful car..bought thru vst kia..after sales service is pathetic
I owned a Hero honda Street back in 2002 to 2005... I loved it... Now I am contemplating purchasing this IMT seltos... Migrating from Xuv300 manual diesel...
1. It is completely engaging as manual, just the clutch operation is taken care by actuators and indentation sensors.
2. It is hassle free as automatic and control like manual. It is the best from both worlds. Not half way in between them.
3. It is not introduced in global markets yet. We can't comment about that topic.
4. Kia doesn't forcibly sell this. Around 30% Kia customer bought iMT. They are adapting to buyers needs. Buyers want to buy iMT. Nothing forcibly here.
5. "Not suitable for Auto enthusiasts" - Car/Tech needs to make sense and satisfy user needs who are the reason mass market sales - Common Buyers.
6. Auto enthusiasts are less than a percent in sales market, Market doesn't worry about them and all their opinions at all.
7. Manual is better. Everyone said the same about when automatics introduced, manual is better it can be easily repaired by our street corner mechanic. We all know where the car market is now.
8. Are we car owners daily running into gearbox problems and our street mechanic saves us daily. I don't think so. Reality if any problem occurs we go to service center and solve it and we are good then.
9. We don't need to worry it's not the Tata's who introduced these engines or gearbox leaving us worried about issues and service centre quality of fixing them. It's the Hyundai's, pioneer in engines and gearbox.
Did Kia had manual transmission in sonet turbo petrol. It was offered only in iMT and DCT. So customers had only these two options only in case of turbo petrol. So Kia only forced customers to buy iMT and can't say it's based on customer demand

Very informative. My dad had a knee injury and hence he preferred to avoid using clutch.
So his bike preferences were Hero puch shakti, street, TVS Jive. It was a nice reminiscence when the speaker mentioned that list.

No problem, gently brake and lower to the apt gear as you do in normal manual car

I have seen your user guide to buy used car. I have got the idea to check engine condition using transparent smoke and dip stick smoke. But how to check the condition of clutch in manual transmission and how to check automatic transmission. Please help me by answering these questions.❣️😭
Number of kms run is a critical aspect before you zero in on the purchase. Pls check the service history of the vehicle and if its a DQ200, you must take a calculated risk. If not, stretch your budget and get the new gen verna DCT eyes closed. Agreed that octavia is a different league, buy it only if you have the patience and interest to maintain it. This includes long downtimes for waiting spare parts and what not. Being your first car, I humbly recommend you to give this a pass.
@@antonfelix89 I have got 4 offers. 1.4 TSI 2016 with Manual Transmission Ambition varient done only few thousand KM around 20k Km but price is little higher side around 12L since it's in immaculate condition but we can negotiate around 10L i think, hope it's company service only.
2nd one is another octavia with 2.0 TDI 2013 and Manual transmission ambition varient. This diesel one price is somewhat around 8L to 9L but done almost 80K Km. Planning to negotiate around 7L wanted to know is it good price to get it if the condition is good but neighbor hood garage service.
The third one is a Highline varient of Jetta 2.0 TDI 2014 with Automatic Transmission and done over 1Lakh KM but asking around 9L range can negotiate to at least 7L to 8L. But this one might have changed the timing belt and suspension and full company service.
The last one is 2017 style vatient 2.0 TDI octavia with Automatic Transmission and this one is 4th gen design with split headlamps. Looks modern but done almost 1.2 Lakh km and good service history available and the major Service like timing belt has been changed and priced around 11 to 12 Lakhs. Can negotiate for 9L to 10L.
Which one I should pick. I'm an enthusiastic driver so needed proper driving machine with safety and planning to do code 6 stage 1 mod after few months of purchase. To make it more fuel efficient and explore most of it's potential. Not rash driving or road raging. But need good torque and sometimes highway cruising and pushing the throttle a little for an empty stretch.
If you can suggest anyone of these models it will be really helpful. What is the worthy of these all. I have done elaborate research for the past few weeks and finalized these 4 models but need to know which is great deal from experts like you.
1. How much bookings are happening for iMT when compared to Manual/Automatic? Is there a number?
2. Is there any complaint so far? What if the sensors fail when changing the gear in iMT?
3. Is Kia Carens going to be Discontinued?
I think Kia is forcing us to buy iMT rather than Automatic. Because the price difference is higher for iMT Vs Automatic when compared to Manual Vs iMT.
Update after test drive.
1. The showroom personnel says more customers are opting for iMT. (Not sure if she is correct).
3. Its new model. As of now, there is no discontinuation.

Resting your hand on the gear will not engage the clutch in Seltos iMT, we own the same vehicle and it neither engages clutch nor causes issues while driving.

@@14benister when your hand is resting on gear, you don't intend to move it left right up down, you are just resting your hand. When you move it the clutch starts to engage

As u said the sensor is placed on the gear knob,on sensing the hand pressure the pressure plate of clutch gets ready.
Many of us have a habit of driving manual by placing hands on gear knob occasionally (Though its not advisable) but we cant avoid it completely in stop and go traffic!
IN iMT if the same habit is followed, do the pressure plate gets wear out soon?
No because when you shift the next gear position we will cross the neutral position while we cross the neutral position the sensor activate and the clutch will be activated

Sir, when we are driving down hill, we generally used to drive with lower gears to use engine breaking to have better grip on the descent. Since this car beeps whenever we are off gear , should it be problematic when driving down hill ?

I’ve been driving this for an year. Definitely it creeps with stability in deepest slope. You can drive with confidence. Just slot it in first gear and keep your leg in brake.

I might be wrong - But Probably not to cannibalize the sales of Hyundai. To set some distinct business intent and differentiate from hyundai as kia always wanted to position itself as a premium alternative to hyundai. I think once they taste reasonable success, these iMT 's might replace the AMT's of their small cars.

@@Vijaykumar-yx9cc probably the cost of the gear box might not be suitable for them to introduce into the carens. Carens being positioned in the premium MPV segment, they have TC Box there ready.
