About this course:
This course, presented in 26 lectures, focuses on understanding the small-scale motions of mechanical systems near their stable equilibrium states, offering a fresh perspective compared to traditional dynamics courses that focus on large-scale motions. Throughout the course, students will learn how to derive and solve linearized differential equations of motion for these systems, covering key topics like kinematics, free body diagrams, and force and moment balance equations. The lectures will delve into essential areas of vibrations, including:
Free Vibrations of Undamped SDOF
Forced Vibrations of Undamped SDOF
Vibrations of NDOF
Damping
Continuous Systems
The course emphasizes two primary approaches: the Free Body Diagram and Force Method (Newton’s and Euler’s Laws), and the Energy Method (Lagrange’s Equation), with a strong focus on problem-solving for a deep understanding of these concepts.
