My bro has a similar smaller unit-thinking it has a vented cover??? I went through it and cleaned the controls and all was well. Even these smaller pioneers have absolutely friggin phenominal tuners!!!!! VERY good dxer's!!!!!!!!!
I sold a 525 on CanuckAudiomart a few weeks ago. :) It was a nice receiver the knobs were machined aluminum very nice tracking of radio. Wasn't super powerful but drove some Sansui 45w full range speakers no problem.
When you first showed the front, for a second i thought it was a Realistic unit. Realistic made quite decent units that lasted, i had a music center that was made really well. So new caps need testing, Catch the odd faulty one in a blue moon.
Dave, do you use Chinese cheap crap caps or quality Japanese brands for customer repairs? I had already too much Chinese new caps that failed low esr from start. So I use only Japanese brands myself. And no, I'm not Japanese myself, my girlfriend is.🙂
I use whatever caps the supplier has. I really don't care about the quality of them because they will outlast the warranty I put on my work. Japan has had some horrible caps. Look at all those Elna that pissed all over boards back in 90s and early 2000s. Every capacitor manufacture has had bad batches. You can't single it out by country. You can also get bit with counterfeit caps.
@@TD75 not available locally and cost of ordering makes it nor economically feasible. Customers don't give me a blank cheque. I make 50 to 60 to repair most if this stuff and that includes parts and labour. Everyone seems to think everyone wants to pay big bucks to repair this crap. They don't. More than 50 and they toss it out. If the caps the local shop has comes from China so be it.
Hey, that's my SX434! It's still working great!

Love seeing the video. My 750 is still going fine. Can't beat the older Pioneer equipment.
Great video!
My SX-440 still going strong.
I've seen new caps measure a bit iffy right off the bat. I suspect they perform better as they break in and reform.
