For trivia: Baby turtles are small enough that when they walk on soul sand, they are entirely within the space at the top of the block and therefore suffocate in it, much like endermites and silverfish.

I know turtles were added because they’re endangered irl, and Mojang doesn’t want the player to hurt them, but there’s really no point to keeping them around once you get a reliable amount of scutes.
Now, I know that you can eventually sell scutes to villagers, craft the helmet, and use it for potions, but once your beach is green with turtles, you have no reason to cull them, really, so your shores will always remain full of the buggers.
Like, all I’m saying is, Mojang should make turtle meat.
