★Authors Comments: This episode was so exhausting. Its always tough to work with other peoples schedules. But also Splatoon was simply a game that was not meant to be Boundary Broken, so there was a lot of ruined footage, game crashes, codes not working in certain areas. And the list goes on.
BUT WE DID IT!!! My goodness we finally did it... Man I am telling you right now, this episode would not have come out as soon as it did or possibly at all if i wasnt doing Boundary Break full time. I know its cliche and "advertisey" sounding, but im so thankful to my patreon supporters who are helping me to feel comfortable with the decision to leave my office job. One thing i totally didnt convey in this episode and i really should have. This footage is incredibly exclusive. Right now there are only 3 people outside of nintendo who could have found most of these discoveries. And i am one of those three.

DalekCraft In the oldest Pokemon games, Pokemon Red and Blue, rumors spread about a mysterious Pokemon named "Mew." Of course we know about Mew now, but it was a huge mystery. Somehow a rumor spread that Mew was hiding underneath a truck that is parked next to the S.S. Anne. However, when you are in the area for the S.S. Anne, you don't have surf and you can't get over to it. If you come back with surf later in the game, you aren't allowed into that area because the ship already left. So many people were trying to figure out how to get the Mew that was hiding under the truck. Once emulation and cheats became popular, of course the first thing people did was go over to the truck to find Mew. Much to their disappointment, it wasn't there.

That 'weird trippy' effect you see at 09:00 when you move the camera into the void is due to the rendering method used in Splatoon. When rendering (that is, making the image to put onto the screen/what the player sees) you can either blank out the last image and recreate it from scratch, or you can redraw on top of the last image. The developers went with the latter option. Usually this isn't even noticeable, until you go out of bounds and the camera is forced to render void. The game was not set up to render 'void', so it recycles the parts it needs to from the last frame shown on the screen. This is what causes this trippy, overlapping effect.

A lot of games in general do that; it's not specific to any console in particular. It's just the way the game engine is set up to push out the image for the frame.

Only happens with GMOD (or any source game for that matter) that doesn't have a skybox, and most maps do have them.
Also, Splatoon is not the only game to have done this, there are other games I recall that did that similar effect you mentioned back on the PS1/PS2 days.
The "cane" of Cap'n Cuttlefish is actually a weapon: the Bamboozler, which used to belong to the "legendary hero" of the Squid Wars... which according to the sunken rolls in hero mode is Cuttlefish himself!
And seeing the comments, I'm surprised no one has adressed that yet!

There's so many more details they could've covered! The boss levels have unique skyboxes, Museum D'Alfonsino has unique pieces of art inside the buildings, Kelp Dome has more domes outside the primary one, level 22's bizzare skybox, and some of the other campaign levels' building details. A sublime video either way! Really fun to see the attention to detail the Splat devs had

Once again, I've got to say thank you. I'm going through a particularly rough time right now, anxiety being a huge part of it, and your videos are a nice respite from that anxiety. There's something calming about watching you explore these games with a clear love and respect for the games themselves and the people that make them. And it makes me happy to see everybody sharing in that love and fascination. Looking forward to more.
As a side note, I never gave Splatoon a try but this video makes me want to play it. What a refreshing and unique concept: squid paintball shooter.

I really want to explore all of this in game! I can’t explain why but the fully modeled cities and the small parks and the little gazebo seem so peaceful and free. I couldn’t say I feel this way about any other game, just splatoon for some reason.

Why didn't you see whether the squids are rendered while swimming through ink?
Due to them bobbing up and down and the how fast they transition through animations Id say its safe to assume they do IE it cou;ld take more power render and unrender them at a rapid pace as opposed to just leaving them rendered.

This channel is such a guilty pleasure of mine. I have always loved doing this and finding out more behind the scenes of my favorite video games. I get to see so much more and can appreciate small little things that I would've never noticed. It's funny because I've always been into glitching and looking outside of maps and such. I love your attention to airborne models, since the average player is so SOL at getting a good look at them. The detailing on the airplanes (aka big metal birds) is so cool! I love the devotion of the Splatoon crew and I love the devotion of this crew right here

Im really glad you did this episode. When I first got Splatoon, I always tried to get as far and close as possible to the objects in things like the shops or Octo Valley.

Aw man, Tropical Freeze would be fantastic in this series! Such a beautiful game, and the levels appear to have so much depth. There's no way you wouldn't spot some neat stuff. Plus you get to listen to David Wise music while you're at it. Win/win. Anyway, new fan but I'm really diggin' the series. Quite the cool idea.

Likely emulating, CEMU's really friggin' impressive with how quick they've gotten fully fledged WiiU emulation up and running.
As someone who uses CEMU, it's amazing how accurate it is but it's still very unreliable in most cases. They're most likely using Caffeine

I believe if something is boundary-breakable depends on the game, not the console.

Shesez, this episode was amazing! I've always wanted to see the outside world of Splatoon. You absolutely HAVE to do a part two!! I want to see Blackbelly Skatepark, Mahi Mahi Resort, and Camp Triggerfish! Please!! Keep up the good work, I really appreciate everything you do.
Blackbelly Skatepark looks a lot like the tutorial area from the single player here, makes me convinced they just reused portions of the background. The bridge is mostly rendered too.
Mahi Mahi Resort is fairly extensive, there's even a beach super far out beyond the squid head.
Camp Triggerfish is enormouse. There's a giant wooden structure in the stage in the background, fully rendered, though most of the trees are flat. The stage's outer area is pretty big, there's even a really large lake.

I've been working on a map of Inkopolis and I just noticed
at 8:16 , the layout of the park is the same layout of a park outside of Blackbelly skatepark in the second game. You can see it if you try and look outside the map while superjumping
