When I saw Johnny's documentary and there was no tutorial last week I already suspected, that you two were working together again. I watched his video multiple times, analyzing the animations, frame by frame! Congrats on your phenomenal work, and also thanks for the explanation!
Thanks! Yeah I've been staying busy in the freelance game. I didn't' create that awesome opening animation, and the producer Jack created a few of the other animations. Still, got to create a ton for this piece. :) Super fun!
Brilliant guide, incredible that you made such cool map (invasion animation) from shape layer(animated scaling)/alpha matte/ repeater(scaled/edited opacity,/pre compose/ turbulent displace and posterize time. Your guides make AE software easier to learn.
Love you too. Thanks for the support! Trying to still put out tutorials regularly, but super busy working on future videos for Johnny. 😀I'm learning so much working with these pros. Can't wait to share some other animations soon.
Wow, I've had to make so many animated 'timelapse' maps, I can't believe I found out about plugins like AutoFill today! I just spent three years making anims for Discovery shows and we made maps from Arctic icebergs to the history of Washington DC, I also used the watercolor or ink bleeds forever. I'll be using the posterize for sure, we pitch that style for shows a lot.
@@BooneLovesVideo Hi Boone, I've finally released my Cyprus video (linked below). I used the technique you detailed above which made my map animations look great, so thanks for that. I would love to hear your thoughts. th-cam.com/video/fW0FKHJbwKw/w-d-xo.html I'm a big fan of both yours and Johnny Harris' work and it's been a big influence on me so many thanks for that. If you did happen to find yourself discussing new creators with Johnny then please do mention my video.
Excellent video Boon - thanks. I also used Set Matte with a linked flag + turbulence effect and it also works very well. I use Geo Layer and couldn't find a map of North Cyprus there but I can see on your animation (in Johnny's movie) that you overcame this issue? I did eventually too - I just "substracted" South Cyprus from Cyprus Island and North Cyprus was kind of layer. It is not perfect but works. How did you solve it? (I think that it might be a problem if creating maps like Israel, Crimea etc. when official maps are not wildly available)
Can you make a video on how to deal with the map like the Oversimplified channel..For example, about the Soviet armies and their control of German lands. Thank for this video
Im having an issue when I precompose my inv layer is no longer visible in the video or and the land mass of cypress is no longer visible. do you guys know why this is happening?
The Cypress/Uncharted video is an amazing piece from all of you guys... I've been following Harris for a while and this is definitely a step up on the animation side of things, congrats! ... The funny thing is that I came to your channel for the Inner + Outer Strokes! great simple stuff... I love discovering how many TH-camrs are interconnected Cheers!
Wow really useful Tutorial. Thanks a lot for your work here, Iam learning a lot from you. Really appreciate that its not too much after-effects-4Dchess-wizardry but more just really straight usefull Tutorials, to get work done even if you are not since years in the professional industry.
Hello, I loved the animation and I always wanted to do this type of animation with maps and I have to do a history project about the ww2 and I would like to surprise them hahaha, can this be done on a cell phone and if possible, what app can I use?
How would you do the invasion effect on multiple objects ? Rather than just the one country Edit: nvm managed to do it! I'm so proud! Only took me 5 hours
Going to briefly touch on this topic in my next tutorial. But curious, how did you do it? I would probably merge the country feature shapes and use a matte on that single merged layer.
@@BooneLovesVideo yeah i did exactly just that and it was a fairly quick process. Note: I am using Geo Layers So I was dealing with doing this effect on the soviet Eastern bloc countries all at once. First I tried precomposing all the countries but obviously as you might know it didn't work and 3d animating the map with pitch changes didn't work. So I installed a video copilot script called "3d precompose" and precomposed the shape layers using that (I made sure to unlink the countries from world map anchor temporarily before the precomping and then relinked after precomping) Once precomped I then just alpha matte it to the circle effect exactly as you did in this video. And it worked fine. I then tried the turbulent displace effect once 3d precomping the circle effect and that also worked fine. There's probably an easier way but this took a few minutes
I'm thinking about putting together a course. But be sure to check out the Help section from the GEOlayers panel menu. The creator shares tutorials in there, which are very good.
When I add the repeater and put the position to zero I don't get such grains as you even though my end opacity is at zero like you said. I don't know why.
Man you are awesome. I spent like 3 hours last night and I was missing this one point scaling the repeater. Anyways thanks a lot, after 100k subs and 1 year old video still personally replying. Respect :) @@BooneLovesVideo
For sure! Glad to hear it worked. Sometimes I also like to animate the position of the repeater depending on the direction it's animating. @@DiverseDiscourse
The author of the video needs to learn to explain what to do and how to do it, and show everything in more detail. I am new to AE and for me this video is not clear, what is where, how ? In general, a waste of time
Great tutorials, poor historical knowledge. Turks never invaded Cyprus. Ottoman Empire conquered the island from the Venetians in 1571 and in 1878 with the Treaty of Berlin, it has been given to the Great Britain only temporarily. The land belonged to the Ottoman Empire but the administration was handed over to the Great Britain. Brits annexed the island illegally in 1914. For centuries both Christians and Muslims lived together peacefully on the island. After the illegal annexation and Brits meddling in the local affairs, complications have arisen. Long story short, Turks have been living in Cyprus for nearly 450 years.
