- Rupali Patil Shares Her Challenges as a Woman Artist
Local authorities in the city of Pune in western India recently censored visual artist Rupali Patil’s work as being “offensive.” The art work, a photograph of clothes drying in the sun, was to be displayed at the Pune Biennale Foundation. The photograph showed female underwear and bra being covered while male undergarments being left in the open - a common practice in India.
Through the censored work, Patil, a resident of Pune and whose work has been displayed in exhibitions in Turkey, Poland and other countries, wanted to fight the culture where women are required not to “provoke” men to ensure their safety. Women artists have other challenges, too, says Patil in this video shot in the neighboring city of Mumbai, as she ruminates on what it means for her to be an artist.
Beautiful, poetic art! ......Being a woman artist is still a huge challenge, I agree, and yes, there should be funding. Love and support from an Italian woman artist and single mother :)
Title should have been challenge of being a God damn artist and survive in India.
You are encouraging and inspiring . Respect, love and strength to you
There is nothing like women or men artist.... Art is what it is! Artist is an artist! No other justification needed! More funding to women artist? Why there are many men artist out there with no job nothing in hand... A total disgrace in theit society with so many responsibilities of their families... Facing problems,. Degraded by others, called out as people with no real profession or job! The struggle for both is real... Don't just differentiate here....
Totally agree with you
Women play victim card for being woman and want sympathy
There is equal struggle for both men and women in art field
There is no discrimination
Its all about talent within the person
Respect 👍👍

The thing is you don't need to be a women to struggle as an artist im this country
