Please, please, please ... more Joni Mitchell !!! We were still in Vietnam when this was written: "Reading the new and it sure looks bad. They won't give peace a chance - It was just a dream 'some of us had."
That mountain dulcimer Joni is playing was made for her by an artist in Big Sur, California. Love how she smiles every time she sings. California ⠀ Joni considers herself an artist first; she paints abstract landscapes and portraits, and then a musician. She's a talented guitar, piano, and dulcimer. Next Joni reaction - Woodstock from the same concert please.
She wrote a beautiful song that Prince did a cover of called, " a case of you. " I think you would like that one💕😉 she has a huge catalog in her style went through numerous genres over the years.
My absolute favourite songwriter and songstress after the incomparable Melanie (who passed away in January), forever always be my number one. Two equally talented/gifted though very different artists, each outstandingly unique in her own way. I hope we may see more excellent reactions by you to both icons in days to come.
I smiled when I saw the notification.... Joni is a very special artist. Loved by EVERYBODY. An Artist artist admired and respected at the highest levels. Great Choice.
50 years ago, I saw Joni in concert and something she said has stayed with me ever since. When someone yelled "Sing Taxi", she laughed and said the difference between being a painter and a singer was that no one ever yelled "Paint a Starry Night again!!" She was a once in a lifetime delight!✌💖🌹
Most people don't realize she was/is an excellent (and unorthodox in the stringing/tuning) guitarist. For some of the best of it, search for: "Helira - Joni Mitchell" from the 1976 album of the same name.
The 'red, red rogue' she met in Crete is described further in another great song, 'Carey'. A bunch of hippies/ travellers were living in the caves above the beach at Matala, Crete (in the Greek Isles) and Joni went off and hung out there with them for a while in the early 70s. From the same live BBC performance as California is her wonderful ode to Woodstock, the famous '3 days of peace and music' that took place in 1969 and became a defining moment in the hippie/ counterculture movement. She sets out her understanding of some of the ideas and ideals at the heart of that world-wide movement, in this gorgeous, haunting song. Do give it a listen sometime (and see more of the lovely Joni, playing piano this time.). Enjoy!
Classic! What a bridge! The studio version features some pedal steel guitar work that puts the song into orbit. The lyrics are vaguely autobiographical. When you're ready for more from Joni Mitchell also check out "Chelsea Morning", "Help Me", "Free Man in Paris", "Down To You", and "Raised on Robbery".
I would love to catch your reaction to "Joni Mitchell Amelia (live 1979)" on TH-cam. She's playing here with some very talented and respected jazz musicians (Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker, and more). The performance is beautiful. You're gonna fall in love.
Joni Mitchell was our Taylor Swift as a lyricist, Joni is so descriptive and so relatable. Hope you listen to more of her work, I’d recommend giving CANADA a listen.
Joni Mitchell was my all-time favorite artist during the 70s. She is the GOAT, and her catalog is very deep. There's not one song that I haven't loved. Please continue exploring her, it's well worth your time! She represented the penultimate California girl back then, even though she's Canadian. A couple of other favorites of mine are: "River" and "A Case Of You" (links below). Thank you for another great reaction and choice! ✌💙✌ River -- th-cam.com/video/OLHxxBTl71I/w-d-xo.html A Case Of You -- th-cam.com/video/qAZp5JfDmz4/w-d-xo.html
I lived in So California Newport Beach 1962 - 1985.... It was a great place to live.... Moved to Up-State N.Y. Now, It is a mess and I would never EVER live there again.
I would love to see you counter-showing Kanye and Joni Mitchell. I thought you were starting to get to something, and then you pulled back, and I totally get why. But I think you're on to something about the parallel. Maybe you could do a comparison of musical similarites. I'm not a musician, but I definitely GET when things are spoon fed. ha. You should try something like that. It seems you have a deep understanding of music.
The poetry is brilliant, the singing is brilliant, but the playing is perfect. Every note is perfect. She's the greatest artist of my time.
Please, please, please ... more Joni Mitchell !!!

Okay...besides the voice....the lyrics...written by her...and the musicianship. Damn. Joni is god
Truly multitalented. She plays piano, and whatever this is plus writes music and sings. Breathtaking performance.
She's really a painter. She only tried music originally as a side hustle.
This is a classic performance.

"I'll even kiss a Sunset pig." That translates to "I'll even kiss a police officer patrolling the Sunset Strip in L.A."
There was no need to invent autotune back then.

I grew up with her songs within my home. She is something special, I agree. She is an incredible singer, as well. Thank you for sharing this one.
Thanks for reacting to this song. 🥰
"Furry sings the blues" will amaze. She paints with words...
She is talent defined. Joni needs autotune the way a submarine needs a screen door.
You must explore her entire catalog.
