Absolutely incredible. Great work! I've recently played FFVII in 7th Heaven with full mods, including Echo-S voice mod, and it's an ENTIRELY different experience. It's mesmerizing how much of a difference it makes. Gives a whole new perspective on the game.
Nice results, much dedication on there. I hope someone can fix the effects in game, for example the sephiroth supernova compared to the psx has less stars, transparency problems, lights off etc.
Lovingly and painstakingly preserved field textures, by hand and with AI. Love your work. Can't wait to be 60 and playing this in native 4k @ 16:9 60fps.
I feel like the only step left for these backgrounds would be a mod that removes the static fx from the art (e.g. smoke, clouds) and puts in dynamic ones. If that would even be possible!
Very cool! I always get antsy hearing "AI" and "upscaled" since the result is often a smeary unnatural mess. But these look great! I love how much texture and detail you were able to preserve.
Hello, you've done an exceptional job. Is the correction of 16:9 shots with manual rectification finalized with version 1.6 or do we have to wait for other major changes? For the record, cinematics are cut off on the right with the addition of 16:9 on FF7 SYW, strangely enough.
I mostly happy with how it's now but I may do some fixes here and there in future versions. About the FMVs cutting off on the right, it was a bug but I made a fix and it should be available now in latest FFNx canary build.
I'm glad you kept overworld Cloud in the same style as the original game, since it's supposed to be an homage to the FFI-VI sprites. A lot of people don't get that which is why they make super detailed overworld model mods or add mouths to the characters...
Plus the realistic models aren't proportioned to the backgrounds either. So you end up with massive chairs and doors in comparison to the realistic scaled models.
The mouths were added on the original PC Eidos port from 1998, so no one added them as they were already there on the chibis. Who knows why that decision was made???
@acerimmer8338 Oh I know, I was referring to Eidos when I said that. I think they did it because they were like "Silly developers, they forgot to give the characters mouths! Lets fix their mistake for them" or maybe they wrongfully thought it was hardware limitations or something
That is incredible! Wouldnt it be crazy if we could upscale these images and insert them into an og psx iso that could play on psx, ps2, psp etc. I've got a copy of FF8 that is modded that gave me the idea (although it isn't graphics modded).
Could you provide some clarity on how AI was used for this mod? Personally, I'm pretty staunchly against generative AI that relies on scraped data, I won't berate anyone for using it for something like this which is entirely non-profit, but personally I wouldn't feel comfortable using anything gen AI produced. Again (just to clarify), I'm not leaving this comment to lecture any of the developers or users of this mod, I'm just asking so I can make my own judgement on whether I'd like to use it or not.
It's a bit old but there is an example of the process in this video: th-cam.com/video/OUy5hdGvOSY/w-d-xo.html Basically, AI is used to get the first expanded draft of the image but then I start making layers in GIMP to fix/improve as much as I can so it actually looks good and coherent. If the use of AI in the process is not acceptable for you no matter how much manual work was done then I would suggest to disable the extended backgrounds in the mod options (this was included in v.1.6). That way you won't see extended parts but will get the upscaled backgrounds (with black bars on the sides for backgrounds that are not wide enough for 16:9)
Dang. I like how all the background text and flowers are really crisp now. Nice.
Absolutely incredible. Great work!

Really incredible work! Well done!
Its like I got a new pair of glasses. Great work Cosmos team
Same thought here, lol

Congratulations on the update. Looks incredible 🎉
They look even more fantastic than before! Thank you so much for all your work!

Absolutely mesmerizing.
now that's what i call upscaling
Wow, this actually looks decent, minimal upscaling artifacts. Nicely done.
Looks great
I've wondered for years if we'll ever get the uncompressed backgrounds somehow. They've got to be out there somewhere, right?
Awesome! Thanks for all the hard work.
This is phenomenal! Great job

THIS is what i wanted when they announced the remake. the remake came out pretty good but THIS is art
Fantastic work!!
It's all I ever wanted in a remake/remaster.
Looks great!
seems like it just makes it slightly more sharper without degrading. Not bad i guess.
The small things you gotta enjoy.
Good job, looks really good ;)
Nice work! 👍
you're just the best
Amazing!
must have mod!
wow nice!
