A graduate of Cornell University, Brown University Medical School and George Washington University Hospital residency program, Laurence B. Brown is an ophthalmic surgeon, a retired Air Force officer, and the medical director and chief ophthalmologist of a major eye center. He is also an ordained interfaith minister with a doctorate in divinity and a PhD in religion, and the author of a number of books of comparative religion and reality-based fiction. Allah is One! I too came to Islam in manner that was similar but much more pleasant! Allah blessed me with Islam because I asked sincerely, just like Dr. Brown! I asked in the same way too "O My God, if you are there, if you exist, show your self to me!" After 4 years into islam I realized how Allah showed him self to me, not physically or in a dream or sending angels, but through an experience that led me to Islam that I could not even escape.
Peace to you..I too have embraced Islam and am at peace for the first time in my life..I wish everyone to give Islam a chance and research before judging. Alhamdu Lillah. :) Great Story!!

Quran -Surat Ali Imran :
(84) Say: "We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma´il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam)." (85) If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good).
Profit Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him said at his last speech to humanity "'Translation' {This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion} [Al-Maa’idah:3].

Islam is a religion based upon teachings of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the book of Qur'an which both are compatible with monotheistic teachings of prior messengers, therefore there is a global reference to what Islam is and it won't be changed through history in contrast to how culture does.
On the other hand culture is man made though discovered scientific signs in Qur'an is an obvious evidence that it is not man made.
Be humble to Allah and He will guide you to right path.Every single muslim who prays 5times a day ask Allah 17times or more to guide him on right path,indeed Allah knows better.

Obviously I'm not a scholar, but I am a practicing Muslim in America, and I would like to briefly address your questions, though I strongly recommend watching videos with Muslim speakers to learn about how Islam addresses these questions.
One attains heaven by belief in the One God, and following the teachings of His final Prophet, which are: belief in God, praying, paying alms, fasting, and pilgrimage (called the 5 pillars of Islam). There are many other good deeds one can do to attain heaven.

@WintersAscension I don't speak or read Arabic and it took me about a month of praying while reading the prayers in transliterated Arabic from a paper until I got it memorized enough to pray without the paper. It's amazingly easy, SubhanAllah. My suggestion is to print out the prayers you find online (or at your local mosque,) shut your iPhone off while you pray and take your Shahadah as soon as you feel you can seriously commit to Islam, InshaAllah.

Basically, a Muslim is one who submits their will/surrenders their soul to God. They understand that their purpose in life is to worship God. And worship is not only defined as getting on ones knees and praying. Taking care of one's mother is an act of worship. Obeying one's parents is an act of worship. Getting a job to provide for one's family is an act of worship. However, they are only acts of worship when the INTENTION behind them is for the sake of God/to please the Creator.

Correct. But the Qur'an does tell us to argue PEACEFULLY with the People of The Book.

An accumulation of good deeds and staying away from bad deeds will work in a person's favor for the Day of Judgement when all of humankind will be held accountable for what they have done in this life. Asking sincerely for forgiveness for any sin committed, big or small, can result in the removal of bad deeds. But it has to be directly asked of God, the Forgiving, no confessions to priests or prayers to saints involved, just a person's personal relationship and direct conversation with God.
Since Noah ,Abraham,Moses,Jésus,until Muhammad peace be upon 'em the one the same message:worship the one god,believe the messengers ,follow the prophets ,childrens of Adam u 're my creatures so worship me i 'm your god
