Hey Benn, you make really engaging and interesting videos. You have a uniqueness in the sea of youtube. Thanks for spending the time to share this awesome synth with us.
Yip, if I was rich this would be the drum machine I'd buy. Sounds great, sounds unique, does weird stuff too, love those types of knobs like on my Manhattan Analog modules. Looks literally built like a tank. They even put it in a kind of sea foam green / ocean turquoise that would great with a Fender Jaguar propped against it.
@@compucorder64 Good thing you said "literally". I 'd hate for anyone to think you were speaking rhetorically. Or hyperbolically. Or ironically. Thank you for making that distinction.
I heard Perkons many times on big system, first time even before it was released. Kodek and Leo Novuss are absolute monsters playing it. With couple FX pedals you can basically play a whole set on Perkons. And boyyy it sounds good live. Thick and punchy.
I just sampled your tour through all the algorithms and modes for the four different instruments. Then chopped them up and exported them all over to my Roland TR8S. It's got probability, effects and tons of tweaks and mangles for each sample. It sounds awesome and fits my budget better than the Perkons. Thanks Benn! Awesome review as always.
Benn Jordan, The last two hardware jams starting in about @14:46 are spot on. Very lovely. I see this instrument taking you on a diversion of your regularly scheduled productions cultivating a new sub genre of yourself. Iterations are everywhere. Nice 1.
It's really not, the TR-909 was released in 1983 at an MSRP of $1195 which is $3,648 in today's dollars. Full-size, full-feature, high-quality machines have come DOWN in price over the years, but the availability of Volcas and Behringer clones has skewed peoples' expectations of cost. Sure you can get a TR8S for $600-700 but look at the difference in build quality, the size of the company, etc. The sheer number of tact switches and high-quality knobs and pots on the Perkons drives the manufacturing costs way up plus metal case vs plastic, smaller company, etc.
@CT-ho6si I'm not suggesting the price isn't merited but it nevertheless is quite a bit more than I'd spend on a drum machine and, against the economic backdrop, it's definitely eye-watering for me personally
It has all the knob per function I love and look and sound, but not any the features I need still it’s one of my favorite that came out lately and love the build and color.
Ooo. I love the way it sounds in these demos. I can tell it can make some earth rumbling industrial battle drums super easily and I'm all about that. Erica synths definitely know what they're doing!

So many new cool drum machines/drum synths coming out. The pulsar 23, HD-01, Landscape Fm Noon (you should get your hands on one) and the THC syncussion mini!
Adding on to your comment about the state of drum machines, I’ve noticed that most of them that are neither sample based nor old school Roland derivatives tend to be grooveboxes rather than straight, pure drum machines. So while this one isn’t for me I really appreciate what Erica is doing here to advance the world of drum machines.
They should have named this thing G.A.S. Gotta get one. So versatile and a breath of fresh air. Great display of what this baby can do. The demo of Perkons with Roland Phrase Lab and Cyclone's 303 clone was where it's at; for me. Keep up the amazing content. 👏

Wow, as a drummer, I think that is one hell of a cool drum machine. I'd love to make some evolving weirdness and play acoustic drums over it. I also really enjoyed your music making with this thing.

I'm glad so many people love the sounds this machine makes, because to me it sounds like every other German drummachine that came out in the past 20 years. Not that that's a bad thing, but it sounds very dated. But probably not to people elsewhere in the world.
Hi Benn. What happened to your favourite synthesizer? Is the Arturia Polybrute still the one, and do you still have/use it? Many youtubers said many good things, but almost nobody seems to make new videos about it. What are we missing?
Just received ours yesterday - hey, we're Thundergate, so I pretty much have to have the Thundergod drum machine aye? Not disappointed in the least. Lost hours last night jamming and no regrets. The sound goes deep and the drones are just wild to boot. Thank you for you resource and your jams. Awesome stuff Ben! X
This stands out to me as the perfect review. While I personally enjoy cryptic reviews of freaky gear in languages I do not speak, sometimes I just want the meat of it. Perfect flow and of course, now I want one.
This is why I LOVE my digitakt. Every time I see another one of these powerhouse drum machines I realize I can do all that’s on offer and more using just the that little elektron box. The DT will surely become a classic along with the octatrack Mki/ii and I’m so glad I pulled the trigger when I did.
True, but the digi is much more menu divey and to me less intuitive. Feels like using a computer. Look at all these beautiful knobs on the front panel, so hands on and fun.
I love this and want this. There's so much scope for constantly evolving rhythmscapes. I definitely appreciated the sounds more when the arty shots of your gear accompanied them at 16:27 in the same way that Max Cooper's music is enhanced by his collaborators' trippy visuals. Is there a reason why you say "perimeter" instead of "parameter?" It bugs me for no reason. Perhaps I'm ignorant of a different meaning. My jam-mate used to say "rift" instead of "riff" and that used to bug me in the same way; only in a minor way, mind you.
Accents vary. My name is Terry. I've had people pronounce it everything from Turry to Tee-ry to Tarry to Taaahry. Seems like a weird thing to get bugged about.

It kind of reminds me of the pen-pin merger, but for schwas. Not sure if that has a name or if it's already covered by that merger. (The pa- in parameter is a schwa but the -ra- is definitely not, but I think the tongue is being led by the first vowel just because "pe-ra" is a bigger distance for the tongue to jump than "pe-ri"?) lovely. if you haven't already, also check out the modor dr-2 .. an expensive 'sleeper' machine, imho.. the firmware updates have been adding a ton of functionality. the combination of that and the perkons would be.. something :)

I can easily make something come up randomly... when I'm drunk enough. So that's not really a selling point. Too easily achieved. However, it does sound really nice and it is easy to program, but I could buy a lot of stuff for the money they ask for a random analogue drum machine. For one, D16's 808 sounds awesome.
