That's great news, you wont be disappointed. The key is not to get lazy with the dosing, make sure you do it daily and do the water changes and you cant go wrong. Welcome to the EI crew
yeah you can do 40% changes, its just a case of watching your tank and seing how things go. try 3/4 measure and be sure to let me know how you get on. I might even make a small post in my forum so people can tell me about their EI dosing
Due to the length of time the mixture can stay in the bottle, boiled and cooled water is used to ensure bacteria is not introduced that may make the mixture go mouldy. De-chlorinator is not need even if you did not boil the water as you are only putting such a small amount in the tank it would have no ill effect on fish. If you have a large tank and use the mixtures quickly you could get away just using normal tap water.
I've been dosing the guide amount for 3 months on my 130l tank. 25ml a day. So far all good and plants looking healthy. But I do mess around with the tank practically everyday.
The trace elements are Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Molybdenum (Mo) and Zinc (Zn) and without them plants will exhibit a variety of deficiency symptoms. And dont worry the copper amount is so small it wont affect shrimp
it all depends how big your tank is, if its 50L @10ml doses thats about 16 weeks that it will last. No you can just put it in your cabinet it does not need to be kept refrigerated
thank u! yes im stoked iv always had layers of substrate like florites, eco, stratum stuff like that but now ima go straight eco substrate and start dosing.ill be watching ur vids over and over lol.any kind of vids about it would be very helpful as well thanks
If you're to dose everyday, it's inevitable that you'll go on holiday sometime during the year. What's the best way to prepare pre-holiday and post-holiday? Assuming there is no one to dose the tanks for say a 2 week holiday?
Just re watching this video. I bought this food mid 2015 to dose a 120l tank initially that I had just dirted and planted up. Been using it ever since. Have three planted tanks and still have plenty of the dry salts left as I'm running the tanks relatively low tech although I do use liquid carbon but with low light. I could not be more pleased with this product and want to thank you for providing this tutorial. I just watched your video on the Osmotics RO unit that I am considering buying as I would like to start keeping shrimp. What would you recommend to remineralise the RO water. I live in the midlands with hard water and am not sure which remineralising product to use. Any info would be great.
Hi. Can You say approx how many ppm(mg/l) that method provide per week of each macro? I got concerns about phosphates level as my horrible tap water in London already contain 3mg/l So with weekly 50% water change I dose 1,5mg/l phosphate. Dosing macro of your mixture in my tank could lead to dangerous phosphates overdose and massive algae problems.
Why is Boiled and cooled water so important, why not just out of the tap with de-chlorinator ? I am going to order this set because it looks great, i just wanted to know about why boiled water, is the de-chlorinator not used in the boiled water after it is cooled before it is put into the bottle ??
First time i see a video on EI Dosing and mixing own macros and is interesting. The dosing 10 ml per 50 liters x 3 times per week is quite a lot. I have 800 liters heavy planted tank and never manage to have 100% healthy plants and without algae. My lights is also strong 3 x 150 W LED flood lights daylight . To use the mixture 500 ml bottle will finish almost in a week. Wandering how cost effective this can be compare of using TNC fertilizers for example , which last over a month for the aquarium size i have and cost approx £14. Can you make the mixture more concentrated instead dossing 120ml approx for 800 liters you could do 12ml making the mixture 10 times more concentrated and use 1 ml per 50 liters.
i checked out my EI salts and notided i have potassium nitrate KNO3, potassium sulphate K2SO4, and kelamix. I dont have KH2PO4 nor MgSO4, will my macro be good enough?? thanks a lot
Nice video, very informative. Just wanted to add that some places are restricted in what can be imported by mail. Another way to get these chemicals is visiting your locate Grow Op *ahem, Garden store! They sell all of these for under 10 dollars (tubs full - 1kg) and you can split it with your friends. The tubs will last you, your mother, your barber's cousin's former room mate, a life time. I pinch and toss it RAW and DRY because I'm bad ass that way.
I've only just heard about EI Dosing and this is the first video i've watched about it. I've been struggling to keep plants without them dying within a few weeks so i thought i might try this method instead. Once i start EI Dosing do i need to keep doing it forever though? Also, how do i work out how much to dose? I have a 180L tank. Thanks :)
Potassium phosphate & Dipotassium hydrogen orthophosphate same chemical ? Can I use Dipotassium hydrogen orthophosphate instead of Potassium Phosphate ?
I have a question. In the video EI Dosing Guide - Aquarium Plant Food UK, 1 teaspoon equals how many milliliters? This method is forever or have a moment you should stop? If for some reason go a day without fertilize, what to do? what to do in these cases and if i have holidays for example?
its not a problem missing the odd day but if you go on holiday its best to try get someone to dose your tanks, if not turn lights off and this will help whilst you are away.
You are thinking about it all wrong, you are estimating the amount the plants will need, you will always have excess ferts in the tank which is why you do the 50% water change each week. 1 teaspoon equates to about 5g if that helps. My teaspoons are always heaped as its better to add more than not enough
I know people that do this but i feel its too much of a pain adding the correct measurement of different chemicals daily. I personally find it easier making up a mixture and adding it that way
That's great news, you wont be disappointed. The key is not to get lazy with the dosing, make sure you do it daily and do the water changes and you cant go wrong. Welcome to the EI crew
i am really pleased this video helped, it inspires me to make more videos when i hear stuff like that
yeah you can do 40% changes, its just a case of watching your tank and seing how things go. try 3/4 measure and be sure to let me know how you get on. I might even make a small post in my forum so people can tell me about their EI dosing
no problem at all, always willing to help and answer questions
Is there any process to make the Chelated Trace Elements? Items required and the amount to be mixed.
I just started a new aquarium today, am also using fertile substrate, my question is, wend should i start the EI method fertilizer ? thanks
I've been dosing the guide amount for 3 months on my 130l tank. 25ml a day. So far all good and plants looking healthy. But I do mess around with the tank practically everyday.
you can make double even triple strength mixtures up and then drop the amount you dose daily. so that each bottle lasts longer.
Where can i buy your funnel from? bearing in mind i type with my feet.
Why boiled and cooled? Wouldn't RO water work just as well?
Are these EI test kits still available anywhere?
The trace elements are Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Molybdenum (Mo) and Zinc (Zn) and without them plants will exhibit a variety of deficiency symptoms. And dont worry the copper amount is so small it wont affect shrimp
Have you tried dosing the dry ferts directly in the tank, without creating a premix solution?
it all depends how big your tank is, if its 50L @10ml doses thats about 16 weeks that it will last. No you can just put it in your cabinet it does not need to be kept refrigerated

it does not matter just as long as you keep all teaspoons the same, so if you used heaped teaspoons make sure all are heaped

awesome im makin the switch to dry ferts ordered some last night
how long does this pre-mix last for? and do i store in the ref or at room temperature
What's your GH & KH of your tap water ??
R u using RO/DI water in your tank ?
if i have a lager tank and whant it to last longer will it matter if i dose smaller amounts??
thanks
Hi what about Iron ?
Very informative video, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you
Do you guys ship to Australia?

Can I check- in the video it looks like you are using a TABLESPOON measurer but you talk about teaspoons in your video. Can you confirm? Thanks

Potassium phosphate & Dipotassium hydrogen orthophosphate same chemical ? Can I use Dipotassium hydrogen orthophosphate instead of Potassium Phosphate ?
Thanks for the explanation, that makes complete sense, now i know exactly what to do when i get mine, Thanks again :o)
what is Chelated Trace Elements ?

My tank is 200 L, so may I add 40 ml of Macros each two days?
You are thinking about it all wrong, you are estimating the amount the plants will need, you will always have excess ferts in the tank which is why you do the 50% water change each week. 1 teaspoon equates to about 5g if that helps. excellent presentation
so... i assume you mean 10ml per 50L of tank water for BOTH macro and micro? you didn't state this explicitly....
I know people that do this but i feel its too much of a pain adding the correct measurement of different chemicals daily. I personally find it easier making up a mixture and adding it that way
por favor não consigo traduzir alguem me ajuda
Its fantastic thanks for the video and a whery good Product..
Great video. Btw its pronounced Key lated.
