Getting rid of the date complication is a brilliant move imo, I was considering the normal version but that crown would've driven me nuts if I ever needed to change it! I can put up with that crown being time only though
Citizen has been on a roll in the past couple years! They have come out with very compelling watches to catch the eye of enthusiasts. I agree that Citizen has come out with more exciting colors for the Tsuyosa than Tissot has for the PRX. You do make a good point that Citizen is playing up the strengths of this watch, and in this case by making the dial so eye catching that you can forgive most everything else. I already have a PRX (who doesn't at this point?) so I'm going to skip these Tsuyosas for now. But I know that Citizen has a lot more in store (even a titanium version of a Tsuyosa like watch) so I'm just waiting for something more compelling before spending my paychecks.
Looks much better than the central seconds version imo! Though the not-as-integrated look then begs the question: why not make a version with a normal bracelet and lugs?
Amazing design, but I still think it's too big for slender wrists... They should made this model in 36mm too... That would be perfect!!!!!! Regards from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil... Love the channel...
The mid-case trickery is always a gamble. Great when they pull it off and create the impression of a much slimmer watch (Oris Divers 65), but there's a risk of going too far and creating an odd hovering effect (the PRX Chrono comes to mind). This looks like more of the latter.
I got the blue one about a month ago from Jomashop for 284.99 / within a week they were sold out and when they came back jumped to 399.99 … love the watch the fit the dial the bracelet / spent 5 days in Vegas and this got a lot of wear out of the 4 I took …. Love this watch even more than my PRX auto … the shorter lug to lug is so much nicer
Yeah it's lovely. I have a few blue watches so I'd have to see this and the gold one in person. I'd definitely be interested in having one, spotted online for €360. I'll see if I can get my hands on one in the real world to give it a test drive
Great review Jody, as always. The only thing I would point out is the non tapering bracelet. The original Tsuyosa has a more pronounced taper to the bracelet compared to the small seconds one and therefore wears better. But apart from that the new Tsuyosa is amazing. 👌🏼
For anyone curious, the name Tsuyosa (強さ) does mean "strength," but the adjective, not the noun, such as height, weight, etc. Making it kind of a weird name for a watch. The noun for strength is 力 (chikara).
Great review Jody. Love my Citizen Small Seconds. The upgrade to the dial, movement and bracelet now make it my favourite integrated bracelet watch. An easy daily with that 60hr power reserve.
Looks beautiful mate! I was sorely tempted as I mentioned to you, but the next day with the new colours, I HAD to go with the orange dial of the regular three hander. Colours of my club of which I’m a life member! 🧡
Just bought the grey on the leather. Had it for two days and it's very nice. Lume is crap as is the tiny crown. But overall very good. Got mine new from Germany, cost me £256 with free delivery and Fedex did not add duty or admin fee. So win win. Great review. Seiko needs to wake up !
I purchased this exact watch last weekend from my local AD. Got it for significantly less than the US RRP. (My AD was hosting a Citizen Trunk Show). I also ordered the alternate strap that matches the dial. I've had no problems with the crown and am very happy with watch. Seeing it in full sun is definitely an event 😎
I got one from the first shipment into THE “gray market” online retailer, on sale for $299. I think it was totally worth that price. Looks like it’s normally $399, and not sure I’d pay that. The crown is difficult to operate and it’s a tad chunkier feeling than I would prefer, but it’s still a great looking watch.
Seikos are similar to earlier German watch designs. Citizen made Caravelle for Bulova and ultimately Accutron 218 and 219. Now they own Bulova. They have a history of high grade products. They should produce a line of updated tuning fork timepieces.
I like this version much more, would really love to see Citizen go a step further and do a small seconds Tsuyosa in titanium. That softer grey would really let the dial pop and I think be a more resolved design
I think you were wise to pick the blue. Personally I stay away from watches with integrated bracelets I have some sitting in my drawer that I've bought second hand and can't find links and can't replace with another bracelet. Also under the macro of the caseback it looks like the rotor has been damaged bu overtightening or is it just the look?
I love the grey dial one, but kind of want it on a bracelet. Or at least to buy an OEM bracelet from Citizen. I love my Casio Edifice EFR-108 (one of my favorite Casios), having a Citizen would be nice, too. Small seconds are always fun, and and that guilloche dial is lovely.
I know the talk here is about the integrated bracelet ... But for me the star of the show is that dial - Presage-esqu guilloche pattern, bright modern colors and subseconds ... To me THAT and the movement is what makes this watch stand out. Ironically I like the bracelet of the non-subseconds Tsuyosa better.
Great video, as always, Jody! I know you've also mentioned in other videos that you don't love blue dials, and I'd be curious to hear more about your opinion! (Do you generally not like the color blue, or is it more a watch dial thing?) In any case, I'm with you about this particular dial-cracking, as you say!
Nice looking watch. The small seconds add a lot to it, not keen on the textured dial although the grey we saw a glimpse of at the end seemed a bit better. But no date so its not going to be a daily.
Word of warning to anyone looking to buy the watch - I had one and sold it. I really wanted to like it, but the dial felt quite flat in comparison to PRX/dark blue enamel Tsuyosa type watches. No micro adjustment holes or half links, which means it was a little loose on my wrist. Also it wears quite big for a 40mm. Oh and the colour was quite bright, I love it but it was a lesson for me that muted colours help wearability in the long term. Hope that helps anyone out :)
Ooh, was wondering when this would drop. Citizen is obviously working on making this a better watch. I think a screw down crown and quality clasp would make a big difference.
hacking and handwinding is really going to make it a more attractive proposition. the movment and lack of hacking was what put me off getting a tsuyosa
Yeah that camo dial is really something else Easy to love, or hate for that matter. But the best part, they deleted the cyclops on the new EU versions.
My goodness, they did again, love it, I can see myself buying it...plus im fan of the brand...stunner in my humble opinion, great review on this spectacular citizen Jody, a looks good on you my friend way it go..until next time....let's keep it coming citizen...
It's a very attractive watch for sure... not exactly bang for buck considering the Erebus Ascent is for me at least a 'dressy sports watch' - so both are on my 'under consideration' list. Thanks for the review...
I actually really like this watch def thinking about grabbing one as a daily i love small seconds for some unknown reason (really i dont know why just do) i even lile the 4 o'clock crown just because its different.
Jody, any chance you have seen, or will be looking at the new Citizen Super Titanium Eco-Drive watch? I am fairly sure its an integrated bracelet as well, not so dissimilar from this watch, and given your love of high accuracy quartz, it would probably be perfect. I believe the model numbers are AW0130-85LE, AW0130-85XE and AW0130-85ZE. If you have, or plan to, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
It's actually really easy to operate and you only need to set it within 12h cycle because no date. Plus 60h power reserve, you can let it just lay around for the weekend.
Citizen is the best brand IMHO today. Best bang for the buck. This one costs just like some special colab versions of G Shock or entry Seiko 5 but offers IMHO better bracelet and sapphire. Me personally would love to see a more premium version with Miyota 9000, slimmer case and leather strap included. Ofcourse it would cost more. For my taste I would love to see beefier baton hands, I know this isn't a Seiko's diver 62MAS but I just do not like thin hands. Nice job Citizen. Small seconds is a trend but I would go now with Direnzo's Wandering Star DRZ06 if I'm into new watch with small seconds hand. Unfair to compaire these two. Anyway nice job Citizen, this is why I love you above all brands today.
Do you know that a combination of part links and full links give more sizing options by manipulating them, rather than thinking they are full and half links, as you keep saying? So if you have 9mm and 6mm links (the norm) you actually have 3mm of adjustment, not 6mm ; ) Not great on a butterfly where you want the clasp central, but better than thinking you have less options to get a good fit ; )
It´s a great watch. got mine in a super price (111.50 dlls. with descount of 30% (promottion) plus 10% payin with the card of the store. had to make the conversion) In Sears MX. and with points in my credit card. I agree, I can't read the damn things anyway, give me the cleaner look !
Agreed! I saw an older Tsuyosa in person and the date looked awful, the shitty cyclops cheapened it.
The gray dial on a black leather strap is an absolute killer!
I bought the regular Tsuyosa, brand new for 160 on amazon. Crazy good deal. The bracelet is actually amazing for the price.
crazy deal how did I miss that!
That's a great price. What color did you get? I have the white dial.

Like the prx, they'll be able to sell leather straps and bracelets for the model so I guess it's additional revenue generation
Amazing design, but I still think it's too big for slender wrists... They should made this model in 36mm too... That would be perfect!!!!!! Regards from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil... Love the channel...
38mm would be good, same goes for the PRX. They are more dress watches than sports.
I apologize for being 7 minutes late for the video Jody, it won't happen again 🫡

That guilloche dial is lovely. The movement is really nice to look at as well.
