  • Today we are comparing Inka Gold from Viva Decor with NUVO Embellishment Mousse from Tonic Studios. Both a a creamy metallic paste that can be applied with a finger, painting knife or brush; both can be thinned; but ONE MAJOR DIFFERENCE could be very important to your arts/crafting. Watch to see what it is!

Also, to prevent the mold with the inka gold, wipe the surface with a baby wipe after using your finger. It is your finger which is transferring bacteria into the beeswax. I also cut a damp baby wipe and keep it in my inka gold jars to keep them moist and pliable over time. Sharlene

Thanks! I just bought my first jar of Nuvo mousse and am interested to learn more about it. I had not heard of the Inka mousse before now, so I'm glad I got the best one!

This was told to us by an artist who does classes for inka gold. DO NOT use your finger in it - that is what causes the mold. You should always scoop out what you need with a tool. Also, to help prevent mold use a small amount of hand sanitizer across the top before putting your lid back on. If your inka gold appears to be dry add in a bit of distilled water on top to help it smooth out. If you add regular tap water this will also cause bacteria to grow.

Good information. However, it seems that they should fix the formula to include an anti-mold/bacterial component so it's not so prone to it. Kinda gross!

I've never had mine mold, and I've been using my fingers to scoop them out for as long as I've had them. BUT I do have trouble with mine drying out. It an easy fix with a spritz of water, but maybe the mold is due to humidity levels more than bacteria. I love the Inka Golds (wish there was a nice metallic red instead of that lava red) but it is an issue that it's not permanent on paper (although I will say it is on polymer clay applied on raw and then baked.) I will have to try to get some of these Nuvo mousses.

I love your comparison videos. There are so many products out there that are so similar that it's very helpful to find out if a new product is worth it. I have a few of each and the Inka Gold seems to have a touch more iridescent sparkle, but the Golds are the older less creamy consistency, so the newer formula may be different.
I have found that a quick spritz of water before I close the jar keeps it from drying out. Having a product that dries really quickly is great, but the flip side to that is you can not leave the jar open for very long. I had an Inka Gold that had dried out and brought it back by adding a dropper full of water, letting it sit for a few days and then giving it a good couple of spritzes every day until I could use it again.

I love the Inka gold. When applying Inka gold, make sure you keep the lit closed. It does dry out very quickly. Never use your fingers in the product because it will put bacteria in the product and makes it moldy. When you apply it, wait 5 minutes and buff it up with a paper towel and a amazing shine appears. To revive dried out Inka gold I put some boiled cold water and glycerin in the yar and mix it in and it is good to go! Thanks for the review.

Great comparison, thank you so much !! My Inka Gold must have been old when I bought it, it has never been creamy, it's always been dry and kind of crumbly. It looks more like the NUVO. Mine molded also. I tried to make mine creamy again by adding water, it helped somewhat, I also added some rubbing alcohol, to help with the mold problem. I put a wet wipe soaked in alcohol on top and closed it up. It hasn't molded anymore. I think I should have taken some out the first time I used it instead of dipping my finger into it. I thought maybe that introduced bacteria or something that caused it to mold. It doesn't smell very good at all :( !!! But it's pretty and shiny.

I think these companies both need to make these products in a smaller pot...about the size of the larger Twinkling H2O pots. I rather suspect that the molding in the Inka Gold comes from the problem with them drying out over time. I've seen many people advising placing a wet wipe folded on top inside the container, inviting mold. Thank you so much for taking the time to do these product comparisons. I love watching your videos :)

Thank you for your video , I own numerous Inkagold colors and I love it ! I often use it as a watercolor medium because it is water reactive . Also using your fingers is not advisable because of its more organic base of beeswax but in time will have to see if Nuvo does the same . Also Nuvo might be more sensitive to drying out in time , so I'd recommend care when replacing the lids . Thanks Again !

Thanks so much for all the hard work you put in to making these videos for us. Reviews such as yours is what helps for me to make the wiser choice. Since I have neither I decided to go with Nuvo. I spend quite a bit on shimmer cardstock and when die cutting flowers and such there is so much waste so now I am hoping that buffing on some mousse only where it is needed will help.

So many good products available now. This was very helpful. I have a few Ink Gold jars because I could use a coupon at Joanns to purchase. The Nuvo product line is one of interest to me so I appreciate your review of these two products. I have some Nuvo glitter which I like quite well but Nuvo products are not as easy for me to get so based on what I saw on the video I'll probably stay with Inka Gold.

My inka was great at first but ended up drying hard as a rock. I was very careful with the next one I purchased even used a plastic wrap to help and that dried out also. Can't wait to try the nuvo.

Thanks for the comparison. Viva Decor Inka Gold is a beeswax. The Nuvo Mousse is not. When inka gold dries (quickly) you buff it with a clean dry paper towel. Sharlene

This is strange because I did not buy Nuvo paste because I saw a video where it actually diluted in water once it was dry, and I didn't like that... it is a shame I didn't see this video before, or I don't remember seeing it... well, next time I can grab nuvo paste, I want it to be water proof once dry, even if I have to heat set it. I will give it a try!

Everything I've seen on Inka Gold cautions you from using your fingers with it to avoid contamination. Have they changed this issue?

When you shared the round up at the end you repeated that both had 2.2 oz, but the Inka pot was marked 3.5 oz, I think. So that would make a significant difference in price comparison. Thank you for the review.

Also I recently found out, that the cardboard inner lid will absorb the moisture in the jar, and was told to take those out of the inside of the lid and replace with Styrofoam, also put plastic wrap over the opening of the jar, put the main lid back on and put it in a small zip loc baggie. This is suppose to work with both inka-gold and the nuvo mousse which have happened to both of my products. I also had a brand new never opened nuvo glitter paste that was hard as a rock and crumbled all over the place when I took the lid off. Wow what a mess, and that is not water soluble unfortunately.
