olfactory dysfunction is an early sign in Parkinsons/Dementia, but in this case where it's a noxious stimuli it usually stimulates the trigeminal nerve rather than the olfactory nerve. So in this case he should still smell bad smells! @@looseboxer

It might be Parkinson's Disease. That's one of the symptoms, they can smell a lot of smells but they can't with only some distinct smells, that doesn't come with age, with age, people lose the majority of their sense of smell, not only distinct ones. 😟
